Racist people in the U.S. appear to be clustered along the Appalachian Mountains from Georgia, through New York and all the way up to Vermont, at least according to a Washington Post report Tuesday that cited a recent study published in the scientific journal PLOS One.
And how does one measure something as abstract as racism? This is where technology — in this incidence, Google search — comes in handy. The study used data on how often people searched a racial epithet on the Internet to determine where racists lived.
“Area racism was the proportion of Google searches containing the ‘N-word’ in 196 designated market areas,” according to PLOS One, whose name is derived from that of the organization Public Library of Science.
This method, according to the Post, is more effective than it sounds because people are not constrained by typical social taboos when they conduct searches online and because attempts were made to control for uses of the epithet likely not intended as pejorative.
Aside from mapping racism in America, what is compelling about the study is that it established a correlation between racist searches and black mortality rates. “DMAs characterized by a one standard deviation greater level of area racism were associated with an 8.2% increase in the all-cause Black mortality rate, equivalent to over 30,000 deaths annually,” said the journal.
To be sure, not everyone Googling the N-word is a bigot, and the study provides no insight into racism against Hispanics or Asians who are often underrepresented or marginalized in discussions about race.
Still, if there is anything positive to take away from this map, it is that racism could be more limited and concentrated than we might otherwise have supposed.

I don’t think Google search can accurately provide enough data to have any conclusions. What if a person was angry one day and looked up racist things on the internet. What if someone was writing a thesis paper. By my own Google searches I would be racists as fuck considering I have done many searches about the Civil War, slavery, and reconstruction era. The term “racism” was invented by communists, and is used to destroy cultures and defuse (and render impotent) those with differing points-of-view on “racial” issues.
That being said . . .
True “racism” is desirable as it merely cements cultural and social bonds that are necessary for a society to function and flourish.
True “racism” does not connote either inferiority or superiority of any racial group, but merely denotes commonality of purpose and advancement within each respective racial group.

Let’s look at what these “evil, privileged” whites have done for Western society and the world:

2. “Affirmative action” policies (that push better qualified whites out of positions and jobs that they would ordinarily qualify for) in favor of lesser-qualified minorities. In fact, “affirmative action” policies actually damage those minorities who are quite capable of “making it on their own” because they get “lumped in” with the groups that cannot make it on their own without “help”,
3. “Contract set-asides” (that are specifically targeted for minorities (that white people are prohibited from bidding on) and immigration policies (that specifically exclude whites, most of who have skills that would benefit the USA) in favor of those from the third-world (with no marketable skills).
4. Scholarships that specify particular ethnic groups are looked upon favorably by most people, save one–scholarships that are intended for whites only are looked upon as being “racist”, and therefore impermissible and improper in today’s racially-charged climate of “political correctness”.
NO OTHER RACE (BUT WHITES) HAS BENT OVER BACKWARDS to assure that all non-white races receive a “fair shake” in being a part of American life, even to the detriment and social well-being of “our own kind” (whites).
Whites possess an externalized altruism that no other races possesses. This externalized altruism that “looks out for the other guy” will be the demise of the white race. Ohio and PA are the most racist states in the union? And I don’t know what’s supposed to going on with the Michigan UP-the place has consistently had a left-wing reputation for a century. But it could reflect a certain number of white retirees who come originally from Detroit.
This study may be mainly showing low income or working class elderly people with Appalachian roots who haven’t fully kept up with contemporary norms and therefore don’t automatically mentally block when the n word comes to mind. I don’t think that necessarily means they’re more racist than people who are more “up to speed” re current taboos.
