EPIC START TO MY VACATION

I’m in wonderful Wildwood. The sun is shining and the breeze is blowing. The Section 8 neighbors’ two yappy dogs are barking already. Joyce hasn’t started cursing on the deck yet, so I have that going for me. 25 cent beer night at the Shamrock is only one day away. I left to come down last night after work. As usual, I had to pick up my mother and her fat cat before heading down the shore. She moved to Media, off Baltimore Pike, so my drive would take 20 minutes more than my old drive.

I decided to take Baltimore Avenue through West Philly. The horrific sights could damage me forever. I lost count of the fat teenage black girls pushing baby strollers along the street, with no black men along for the walk. I wonder why. The streets were piled with garbage. The ramshackle buildings that housed check cashing stores and pawn shops were barely inhabitable. There were more boarded up houses than occupied houses. Porches were collapsing due to decades of neglect. The streets were filled with potholes, as the City of Philadelphia doesn’t give a shit about the people living in West Philly. The Democrats will get their votes despite 50 years of creating their poverty. The Free Shit Army continues to shuffle around the streets in their $150 sneakers and talking on their iPhones, because the EBT cards are still being replenished. I wonder what happens to West Philly on the day the free shit stops flowing.

So, I’m within 15 minutes of arriving at my mom’s new apartment and the most epic nasty thunderstorm I’ve ever witnessed struck. I thought my Honda Insight was going to go airborne and I’d run into Dorothy and the Wicked Witch.

All the traffic lights on Baltimore Pike went out and visibility was about 3 feet. Trees branches were falling everywhere. Intersections were being flooded rapidly. But I made it to the apartment complex. Of course, my hard of hearing mother didn’t hear her phone when I dialed it three times to let me into the building. Eventually she realized I was there and let me in. The whole apartment complex had lost power. After eating a roast beef sandwich, I gathered her luggage and jammed it into the Insight. Last, but certainly not least, was getting Fat Moe into a too small cat carrier. I successfully picked up Moe without getting a hernia and jammed him into the carrier. All looked good. It was 6:30 and the rain had virtually stopped. We should have made it to Wildwood before 8:30. It was not to be.

As we got onto a jammed pack I-476 heading to I-95, the traffic reports produced the worst news possible. The storm had knocked down trees everywhere. The Schuylkill was shut down. I-95 south was at a standstill due to an overturned truck. But luck seemed to be on our side, as I-95 north was clear. We cruised over the Walt Whitman Bridge and then heard the news. A tree had fallen across three of the four lanes of Route 42, my only legitimate route to the shore. I hoped for the best and got the worst. We were virtually parked for 90 minutes. Have you ever been parked with your hard of hearing mother who tends to tell you the same stories she told you last week? Have you ever been parked with a fat cat meowing loudly in the back seat of your car? The last time Moe meowed like that, he pissed his in his carrier and caused havoc like never before for my Section 8 neighbors.

Eventually the slow moving union government drones removed the tree and we resumed our trek to my peaceful, relaxing vacation. If you thought the bad weather was over, you were wrong. About halfway down the Atlantic City Expressway, the clouds opened up and some of the most brilliant flashes of lightning I had ever seen began permeating the atmosphere. The last 30 miles were a white knuckle drive through these torrential downpours. I drove faster as Moe’s meowing increased. I didn’t want another piss incident. As we pulled up to my condo, it seems my Section 8 neighbors had some FSA friends over and they decided to park in my driveway. After 3 1/2 hours on the road, I wasn’t happy. I was able to maneuver around and park in the garage. By the time I unpacked it was 11:00 pm. So much for my 8:30 arrival.

Now for the weird part. I woke up this morning and checked email. I had an email from the executor of AWD’s will. No he didn’t leave TBP $10 million. It seems the executor was given access to his emails and saw my concerned emails from last summer. The executor is his ex-wife and she shed some light on what happened. It is so AWD – stubborn as a mule until the end. Here is what happened:

He called in to work on a Monday then didn’t show up on Tuesday. His nurse knew something was wrong so she sent office staff to look for him. They found him in his recliner. Autopsy said he had pneumonia and emphysema. His nurse said he was awful sick Monday and she told him he needed to see a doctor. He replied “I am a doctor”!!

I can picture him now yelling at his nurse. So sad. He was too stubborn to seek help. His ex-wife had very nice final words for the TBP family:

I just wanted to let you know what happened other than what the paper released. On behalf of the girls we would like to thank you and the other online friends for being his friend.

AWD’s spirit will always be part of TBP. He was indispensable, but we will go on. He would have wanted it that way.

Meanwhile, my mother is worried sick. Fat Moe won’t come out from under the bed. She thought he had a heart attack or a stroke. I think he might just be stuck, or he is tired of listening to her. I need a drink. Is it too early?

My posts will be more sporadic for the next week or so. But, I do tend to get inspiration in Wildwood. Stay tuned.

Time for some fried oreos, Mack’s pizza, and funnel cake.

I went to wildwood in 1988, when I was in basic/ait at ft dix. Didnt see a need to go back. Surprising admin finds this a pleasurable place based on his columns. I would think it would be nicer in the pine barrens. No section 8 there.
We have no ethnics in this neighborhood. And I certainly would not vacation where I might run into any. Funny thing is I know there are nigs around here because I see them on the news when there is a murder, or a shooting, or other major crime, I just never see them in person. Safer that way.

I am surprised he didn’t realize he had pneumonia and often it is a sign of death considering the lunges fill up with water when people are dying of natural causes.

Hate crime? Really? You want a real hate crime? Discriminating against any tax paying, hard working person by forcing them to have to put up with Section 8 neighbors.

I’m from Allentown. In the 50’s and 60’s we would go to Atlantic City / Wildwood.

I’m sure it’s not like that anymore. Wouldn’t care to visit.

Have a safe vacation, Jim. I won’t say “fun” but your stories from Wildwood are hilarious for the rest of us!

Seems that I remember AWD was a holistic Doc. You can draw your own conclusions to “as you live, so do you die”. But I sure miss his humor and brains. I just hate to think his passing was premature because he was treating himself. A doctor who treats himself has a fool for a patient. f

I won one last week! Popped the chemo port out of my chest and – for the moment (and that’s all a cancer survivor can say) after a 20 year almost unending battle, I seem to be cancer free! How about that? I may life to a decent maturity after all!

I miss AWD too… didn’t know him that long, but he seemed like a good guy. Damn shame.

I guess it’s Tis The Season to fuck with cats.

Yesterday, the missus has me take T-Bone down to the vet. Seems his dumb ass caught a cold or something, plus he needed his rabies shot and some other shit…

“I don’t want to grab his ass and throw him in that box. I’m the good guy here.”

“I know. Just put his food out and then leave the carrier nearby so he gets used to it. When he’s not looking, I’ll grab him.”

“Never work. He’s suspicious of you already.”

So I’m pouring a cup of coffee and I look out the window. Sumbitch. She rope-a-doped that cagey fuck and had him cuffed and stuffed in that box. She was trying to calm his ass down, but he wasn’t havin’ none of it…. just “meowed” at the top of his lungs.

Off to the vet. Throw a big beach towel over the carrier to try and calm him down some. He ain’t havin’ any of that shit either… the “meowing” gets louder.

“T-Bone, you think you could shut the fuck up for two seconds? Think you can manage that? That’d be greeaaaaat if you could…”

Nope. T-Bone was pissed off and if he had to suffer, then I did to. Fuck.

Fuck this shit. Turn up the radio till I can’t hear him and roll the window down cause his ass stinks…

T-Bone gets louder. Yeah, okay motherfucker… I see how this is gonna go.

Get to the vet and showed right into an exam room. Rapid-fire questions – How old is he? When was the last time he had his shots? What’s wrong with him?

Doc walks in, handshakes all around, then goes to wash his hands.

“You can open the carrier now.”

“Oh hell no.. I’m allergic as hell, plus he’s in that box and he’s pissed off. Y’all are on your own. I ain’t gettin’ bit for no barn cat.”

I duck out and close the door. Out to the waiting room.

Literally, 3 minutes later T-Bone is being brought back out. The fu-?

“Done already?”

“Yep. He’s got an upper respiratory infection, so we gave him a shot. It should last two weeks.”

“Two weeks?! How’s come you can give a sick cat a shot of antibiotics that lasts two weeks, but I’m stuck taking pills that taste like ass for two weeks?”

She laughed… “I dunno. Anyways, we gave him his rabies shot and also treated him for worms. He’s gonna need a booster in two weeks.”

“Yeah, good luck with that. We already rope-a-doped him once, and he ain’t gonna fall for that shit again..”

“Well, if you can catch him, bring him in.”

“Fine. What do I owe y’all?”

“A hundred thirty dollars.”

A hundre- ? For what? You had him 3 minutes! What, does Doc get paid like five thousand dollars an hour or somthin’?”

“Well, he got his shots and – ”

“I’m kidding… card okay?”

Meanwhile, T-Bone’s “meowing” loud as hell. I look at the pet carrier.

“I don’t speak cat, but I do believe he’s sayin’ something about kicking my ass when he gets out of there..”

Back home we go. T-Bone’s in the back “meowing” his ass off… turn up the radio, open the window and light a smoke… tough shit if you don’t like it. If I have to put up with your ass, then you have to put up with mine…

Get home. Open the pet carrier…

“You bite my ass or anything, Imma make some fuckin’ gloves out of you…”

T-Bone bolts out and dives under some bushes… he ain’t happy.

“Oh, fine motherfucker… here. Have some tuna. I know you feel like shit and someone stuck your ass with a needle… that rates the good shit, so here… enjoy.”

T-Bone ignored the tuna, but when I came back later, it was all gone and so was he…. so I figured he snarfed it and then lit out for the barn… yeah, I would too, bud…

Section 8 was started in 1937. The Great Depression had devastated the housing industry. Landlords who otherwise would have empty apartments benefited from Section 8.

Would you rather have your neighbor’s condo unit remain vacant? How would he pay the monthly maintenance? Do you want him to sell his unit a great loss rather than rent to tenants receiving a Section 8 subsidy? Is that fair to him?

Bye bye anon. Dumb fuck. All the cat stories, I can add valuable information. A cat is very cheap if you skip the vet. I’ve got a couple dozen cats at my farms, and I’ve learned how to beat the cost. Rabies vaccine is 12 bucks for 10 doses online. Insulin syringes are over the counter in most places. Scruff the cat, inject onto the scruff, done. Lasts 3 years.

Great news, Muck!

Admin – I hate cats, I hate traffic, I hate the beach – you have all in one fell swoop covered just about what I envision hell to be. Congratulations. Hope you have fun.

Stucky – you mean to say that RE really is not as rich as he always said? That all those years as a truck driver did not set him up for life? That his mega-rich rum-running pappy and grandpappy did not leave him all the moolah he claimed? And the Van Gogh? Guess that was bullshit too.

I am heartbroken to think that the deadbeat is, well, on the bones of his ass and about to freeze in the wilds of Alaska.

And I guess all the shit about him setting himself adrift on the ice-flows for the betterment of mankind was, well, bullshit too. He will cling to life like everyone else.

And I also seem to remember him bragging about not paying his debts, and about doing all possible not to pay anything into the “system” and being relatively succesful in that endeavor – but now he is screaming about all that money he paid in and cannot get anything out.

I was having a shit day, but Admin, Muck, and Stucky have put a great big smile on my face.

I may have to go over to RE’s site and taunt him some.

2 antibiotic tablets will cure most cat illnesses, usually before labs come back. Baytril and clavomox. Baytril flaver tabs, easy to buy online for chickens, no script needed if you buy them for poultry. Same tablet. Great for any infection, respitory, urinary or wounds. If it doesn’t work, clavomox usually will. ee those two in stock, will save you a fortune.

starfcker

June 24, 2015 8:20 pm

If a cat eats and drinks, no need to panic, a vet would just give him a shot of baytril and some fluids for the first couple of days anyway, until the labs come back. 9 times out of 10, the cat is fine in that time, just from the antibiotics.

You just go to ‘register’ make up a name, make up a password, and you’re good to go. Easy.
