EPIC START TO MY VACATION

I’m in wonderful Wildwood. The sun is shining and the breeze is blowing. The Section 8 neighbors’ two yappy dogs are barking already. Joyce hasn’t started cursing on the deck yet, so I have that going for me. 25 cent beer night at the Shamrock is only one day away. I left to come down last night after work. As usual, I had to pick up my mother and her fat cat before heading down the shore. She moved to Media, off Baltimore Pike, so my drive would take 20 minutes more than my old drive.

I decided to take Baltimore Avenue through West Philly. The horrific sights could damage me forever. I lost count of the fat teenage black girls pushing baby strollers along the street, with no black men along for the walk. I wonder why. The streets were piled with garbage. The ramshackle buildings that housed check cashing stores and pawn shops were barely inhabitable. There were more boarded up houses than occupied houses. Porches were collapsing due to decades of neglect. The streets were filled with potholes, as the City of Philadelphia doesn’t give a shit about the people living in West Philly. The Democrats will get their votes despite 50 years of creating their poverty. The Free Shit Army continues to shuffle around the streets in their $150 sneakers and talking on their iPhones, because the EBT cards are still being replenished. I wonder what happens to West Philly on the day the free shit stops flowing.

So, I’m within 15 minutes of arriving at my mom’s new apartment and the most epic nasty thunderstorm I’ve ever witnessed struck. I thought my Honda Insight was going to go airborne and I’d run into Dorothy and the Wicked Witch.

All the traffic lights on Baltimore Pike went out and visibility was about 3 feet. Trees branches were falling everywhere. Intersections were being flooded rapidly. But I made it to the apartment complex. Of course, my hard of hearing mother didn’t hear her phone when I dialed it three times to let me into the building. Eventually she realized I was there and let me in. The whole apartment complex had lost power. After eating a roast beef sandwich, I gathered her luggage and jammed it into the Insight. Last, but certainly not least, was getting Fat Moe into a too small cat carrier. I successfully picked up Moe without getting a hernia and jammed him into the carrier. All looked good. It was 6:30 and the rain had virtually stopped. We should have made it to Wildwood before 8:30. It was not to be.

As we got onto a jammed pack I-476 heading to I-95, the traffic reports produced the worst news possible. The storm had knocked down trees everywhere. The Schuylkill was shut down. I-95 south was at a standstill due to an overturned truck. But luck seemed to be on our side, as I-95 north was clear. We cruised over the Walt Whitman Bridge and then heard the news. A tree had fallen across three of the four lanes of Route 42, my only legitimate route to the shore. I hoped for the best and got the worst. We were virtually parked for 90 minutes. Have you ever been parked with your hard of hearing mother who tends to tell you the same stories she told you last week? Have you ever been parked with a fat cat meowing loudly in the back seat of your car? The last time Moe meowed like that, he pissed his in his carrier and caused havoc like never before for my Section 8 neighbors.

Eventually the slow moving union government drones removed the tree and we resumed our trek to my peaceful, relaxing vacation. If you thought the bad weather was over, you were wrong. About halfway down the Atlantic City Expressway, the clouds opened up and some of the most brilliant flashes of lightning I had ever seen began permeating the atmosphere. The last 30 miles were a white knuckle drive through these torrential downpours. I drove faster as Moe’s meowing increased. I didn’t want another piss incident. As we pulled up to my condo, it seems my Section 8 neighbors had some FSA friends over and they decided to park in my driveway. After 3 1/2 hours on the road, I wasn’t happy. I was able to maneuver around and park in the garage. By the time I unpacked it was 11:00 pm. So much for my 8:30 arrival.

Now for the weird part. I woke up this morning and checked email. I had an email from the executor of AWD’s will. No he didn’t leave TBP $10 million. It seems the executor was given access to his emails and saw my concerned emails from last summer. The executor is his ex-wife and she shed some light on what happened. It is so AWD – stubborn as a mule until the end. Here is what happened:

He called in to work on a Monday then didn’t show up on Tuesday. His nurse knew something was wrong so she sent office staff to look for him. They found him in his recliner. Autopsy said he had pneumonia and emphysema. His nurse said he was awful sick Monday and she told him he needed to see a doctor. He replied “I am a doctor”!!

I can picture him now yelling at his nurse. So sad. He was too stubborn to seek help. His ex-wife had very nice final words for the TBP family:

I just wanted to let you know what happened other than what the paper released. On behalf of the girls we would like to thank you and the other online friends for being his friend.

AWD’s spirit will always be part of TBP. He was indispensable, but we will go on. He would have wanted it that way.

Meanwhile, my mother is worried sick. Fat Moe won’t come out from under the bed. She thought he had a heart attack or a stroke. I think he might just be stuck, or he is tired of listening to her. I need a drink. Is it too early?

My posts will be more sporadic for the next week or so. But, I do tend to get inspiration in Wildwood. Stay tuned.

Time for some fried oreos, Mack’s pizza, and funnel cake.

As for AWD, it seem’s that his pneumonia advanced VERY quickly. I am shocked that he couldn’t see that he was gravely ill and either drive himself to the hospital or call for an amberlamps.

I came down with a rare form of it about 7 years ago. After a day I drove myself to the emergency room. Doctors told me that if I had waited another day, there would have been nothing they could do for me.
In my case, the infection was outside the lungs. I couldn’t lay down to sleep and when I coughed it was like a dozen knives were thrust into my chest. It would take half a minute before I could even breath.
At the hospital I didnt have much of a wait. I remember having an Xray and a CAT scan. Then next thing I remember is waking up in intensive care three weeks later with a chest full of tubes in me.

Just saw your post Llpoh. *grins*. Doesn’t look like RE has been around much today, you can see all of his posts by clicking on his nic.

Just FYI about the way reddit works, if you reply to the original thread (which you did) the OP doesn’t necessarily know a new post has been made unless they’re keeping up with the post count or they have all replies automatically sent to their inbox.

However if you post a reply on another comment, it creates a red flag notice up by your username so that you know someone replied to what you said.

I’ll use one of my many alternate nics to reply to your comment so you can see how the notice works. Give a minute –

And while you’re browsing around reddit you might want to look at /r/australia. They’re a rowdy bunch and a lot of them.

I attended Lehigh in the 70s, and visited Wildwood in 1975. I was also detailed to Atlantic City for 2 months’ work in summer 2007 before I retired. Somehow I don’t see the Jersey coast having gotten better in the last 40 years.

Admin, you’re lucky you only have to put up with the FSA Section 8 pigs in Wildwood for a week at a time.

I just had a group of third-world Asians move into the condo next to me. I’m surprised they could pay 197K for a condo in downtown Vancouver, WA, but what the hell. Either (1) they didn’t know that 2 BR comps in the building have been going for 175K, (2) they paid with laundered Chinese cash, (3) they couldn’t actually get a mortgage and suckered the owner into carrying the mortgage, or (4) they’re just fucking stupid. My money is on door number 4.

At any rate, the entire floor of the building now smells like a meth lab or boiled dog or baked turds or something worse. Just disgusting!

So tonight these assholes had their housewarming party on their balcony next to me. I swear to God I can’t remember the last time I heard so much noise in such a short period of time. There were five of those fuckers, all bleating out their mindless prattle simultaneously, with the decibel volume continuously rising as they all strove to be heard above the other 4 voices. And this was with my own balcony door fully closed, the air conditioning in my unit blowing away, and my TV blaring. It’s probably a good thing I don’t own any guns, since I might have been tempted to solve some of America’s social problems.

Since this is a large 7 story building, I penned a nastygram to the property manager. Maybe they’ll take action and maybe they won’t.

But I don’t really give a fuck either way. For once in my life, I got cosmic justice in advance. On Monday night, I signed a contract to sell this place. Hopefully it will close on schedule on August 15 and I’ll be outta here. And the nastygram to the property manager? Well, that was mostly because I was feeling sorry for the poor schmuck who is going to be stuck living next to those pricks.

Billy says:

I miss AWD too… didn’t know him that long, but he seemed like a good guy. Damn shame.

I guess it’s Tis The Season to fuck with cats.

Yesterday, the missus has me take T-Bone down to the vet.

Back when we had cats, I just put them in pillowcases to take them to the vet. They didn’t seem to mind.

He deleted it! He deleted the entire post! It’s gone, completely gone! All of it gone.

When I was a kid in Maryland, we used to go to Ocean City, MD every year. Fond memories of the boardwalk, caramel corn, tacky t-shirt shops and video game arcades. It was paradise! I wonder if that town has been sectioned eighted too? Government effs-up everyting!

Re wasn’t kicked off for arguing with admin, he was kicked off because his articles sucked, he was a moron, and a poor arguer. Half of you nitwits would be gone if that was the reason.

Stanley – I guess I got under his skin. Imagine that. So his answer was to censor me. Go figure.

I have always known what a hypocrite that asshole is. And calling him on it was too much. Tough titty for him. Guess his Van Gogh was a lie, too. Surprise surprise.

Wyoming – he finally crapped on the Admin once too often. Plus his articles sucked, of course.

Plus, who you calling nitwit? If I knew what that meant, I might be offended.

Stanley – you missed fights that were epic. This place is calm now. Used to be blood spilled and I kid you not.

There are some true warriors around here. Stuck, SSS, Admin, Smokey, AWD a bit later, me, and a couple of others were hell on wheels. We have mellowed – mostly.

But as can be seen with what happened with RE on reddit – I still have the touch.

“Wyoming – he finally crapped on the Admin once too often. ” ————- Llpoh

I think that’s exactly correct. It really didn’t have anything to do with HIS articles which he was posting on THIS site. Here is what I believe happened;

There was a shitfest here on TBP … I think it was about a 30 Blocks article …. MEANWHILE, I pointed out to Admin that on RE on HIS site was calling Admin a racist and other derogatory names. RE was deported shortly afterwards.

Admin – have a great holiday! I still miss AWD too. I never EVER could believe that a doctor could post the things he did; I would just laugh out loud.

Can’t believe he died of pnemonia. I’ve had it twice, and it feels like you’re dying. I mean, you can feel your body just draining of life. It’s such a shame he didn’t seek help earlier, but I found out the hard way about that: professionals in the care-taking area often don’t look after themselves, just others. They also don’t want to bother people on weekends, don’t like calling the ambulance, etc. Others are into the Emergency ward if they have a sniffle, but not these guys. Oh well, he’s looking down on us and having a good laugh, I’m sure of it.

Have the best time, Admin.

P.S. Admin likes Wildwood because he’s an observer of people, a people watcher, and he’s mischievous! I can relate to that. Plus, we get to read the funny little stories when he gets back.

Me, too, Semi–in the early ’60s our family of 7 would vacation on 36th street at the Ocean View Motel (now long gone) with my cousins from Baltimore and their families. Back then 36th street was pretty much the end of the development at OC. Now you have to go to 135th street, which is nearly into Fenwick Island/Bethany Beach territory. My cousins stayed up near 5th street on the boardwalk at the DelMar Hotel, which has a formal dining room and an old-time soda bar. But the home-made doughnut shop across the street from the DelMar was the best. I’ll always remember one of my uncles and his brother buying a case of National Bohemian beer every morning and finishing it by noon.

Hey Admin, I think Anonymous might have had a point about mothers pushing strollers without any men around. This morning while out on my run, I saw a lot of of man-free white mothers pushing strollers. They were 1) out in the early morning 2) speed-walking 3) mostly in their mid-late thirties and 4) sporting wedding rings. Were the ones you saw in West Philly like that, too? Because then Anonymous would totally have a good point.

I so enjoy your Wildwood recaps and revelations. Enjoy as much sun and positivity as you can get, you definitely deserve every ounce of both.

But I’m secretly hoping you get pissed about something, that always makes the best stories!

@anon, the freaking park service knows not to feed bears because it will make them dependent and unable to take care of themselves.

Do you have any idea what the bleeding-heart thievery of government forced charity has done to our population? Our futures?

Ask a few park rangers, they might be able to explain it to you.

ps, if Admin had stated he sighted the moms & kids in his hometown, on the college campus, or somewhere where people pick up the trash out of their yards and landscape too, instead of the tax-payer paid for trash dumps that the supported love to create and then “live” in, I would agree with you.

First rule in figuring things out for yourself is to assess the surroundings in which the event occurs. I know it will be tough trusting your own abilities versus repeating what others told you, but try. It will be a skill that will come in handy when those you love to support are stealing from you because math doesn’t give a shit and our country is nearly financially finished.

I trust we won’t see much more of you, from your pansy “anonymous” to your inane comments, you definitely will be hard pressed to find much around here that won’t offend your do-gooder, progressive, pansy-assed sensibilities. Don’t let the door hit ya’ on your way out. Peace

@Muck, AWD was not a holistic doc.

He was a vaccinate and pill doc, with a side of the modern medical “health” paradigm of too little nutrients/fats and too much damaging exercise.

He didn’t believe in anything outside of what the pharmaceuticals have validated.

I loved the guy but please don’t mislabel him, that was one area him and I did not see eye-to-eye.

CONGRATULATIONS on your positive step forward my friend, hugs to you and your lovely wife and even though I know you don’t believe, you are in my prayers. Love to you and yours and congratulations again.

There are many theories about Reverse Engineer and his relationship to this site. The answer is simple. RE started attacking Admin’s FAMILY. Not Admin. His family. Admin asked him to stop. He didn’t and got bounced.

Unbelievably, he came back with Admin’s permission, and I really can’t explain his second expulsion because I don’t know the details.

Anyway, kick back and have a margarita and sunburn on me, Jim. And don’t let the critics here dis Wildwood. If that’s what you and your family enjoy, go for it.
