500,000

We’ve been knocking on the door all year. TBP had 494,000 visitors in March and reached the mid 480k range three other times this year. I like big round numbers and I’ve been waiting for us to break the 500,000 visitor count for a single month. We finally did it in August. We chopped through the door and burst through the 500,000 level, finishing with 537,000 visitors.

The visitor count in August was 33% higher than last year’s count of 404,000 visitors. YTD we are averaging 16,000 visitors per day, versus 12,000 per day last year. This is slightly higher than the 1,000 visits per day I was getting back in 2009 during version 1.0 of TBP. I’m not sure what to attribute the 33% increase in visitors over last year. Is it the continued economic spiral being experienced by most Americans? Is it the no holds barred un-moderated comment stream. Is it the growing hatred of the Orwellian military industrial police surveillance state? Is it the increasing anger of working middle class people who are caught in a vice grip between the ignorant FSA and the arrogant Wall Street bankers as their real incomes decline and their debt burden grows?

I’m guessing it is all of the above and more. TBP will probably be enormously popular just before the leaders of the U.S., China and Russia all push the red button simultaneously, to end this Fourth Turning permanently.

I do need to give a shout out to The Man With No Name. He has been doing the dirty work behind the scenes for the last 14 months. Does anyone remember how slow and shitty the site was in prior years? I was constantly dealing with technical crap that I had no idea about. It irritated me and kept me from writing. The site is never down. The site loads quickly. There are virtually no glitches. The Man With No Name is keeping TBP safe from attack and monitors it 24 hours per day. He singlehandedly saved TBP and I owe him my undying gratitude.

But guess what? It ain’t cheap to keep this website secure. It’s not easy trying to entertain you monkeys 24/7/365. Again, I’m proving how not to make money running a website. Only I could generate a 33% increase in visitors, but have donations running behind last year. I have 13 long-time TBP members who automatically donate money every month. I also have another group of regulars who contribute on a consistent basis. You know who you are and I really appreciate your ongoing support. Maybe the newbies don’t realize that it costs a significant amount of money to keep this site functioning. Any donations would be helpful, either through the Paypal donation button or through snail mail to the PO Box.

If you aren’t able to donate, then click a couple of the goddamn ads all over the site. A click is worth about 15 cents. Don’t be blatant about it. Just checkout a few hot chicks once in a while. And if you are going to buy something through Amazon, go through my Amazon button. I get 6% of the transaction amount and it doesn’t add to your cost.

The next round number is 1 million visitors. Nothing that a 70% stock market collapse, civil strife in the streets, a Trump presidency, and World War III won’t help me achieve.

I’d hoped to donate, but had unexpected expenses. I’ll certainly take a look at hot chicks though until we get things straightened out with my son’s rent… and I’ll have him order his books through TBP next semester.

Maggie, FWIW, that is not Bob Dylan singing.

but indeed, the shape of things to come in Syria may provide US all an opportunity to knock.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-08-31/russian-military-forces-arrive-syria-set-forward-operating-base-near-damascus

Arab media outlets have recently published reports that Syria and Russia were looking for an additional port on the Syrian coast, which will serve the Russians in their mission to hasten the pace of the Syrian rearmament.

If all of the above is correct, the situation in the middle-east is set to escalate very rapidly over the next few months, and is likely set to return to the face-off last seen in the summer of 2013 when the US and Russian navies were within earshot of each other, just off the coast of Syria, and only a last minute bungled intervention by Kerry avoided the escalation into all out war. Let’s hope Kerry has it in him to make the same mistake twice.

Thanks for being one of the only places left to have rousing discourse. It is worth so much more, to me, than I can possibly repay.

And thanks for cutting through the bullshit and bringing light to the shadows of our modern existence.

First, congratulations are in order for a job well done. Second. Good time to take stock of where you actually are at this moment. Your gift is huge. Your ability to compile and condense huge data sets is unparalleled, anywhere in the media. Combine that with the communication skills to make that data understandable to average people, and trustworthy enough to save even the wonkiest lots of time, and what have you got?

You may not have realized this, but when Zerohedge puts up your articles, they are consistently the most widely read articles on that site. As we say around here, that is not nothing. Keep it up, it looks like truth-telling will be coming back in fashion. See you at the top.

— “…it looks like truth-telling will be coming back in fashion.”

I think what’s coming back in fashion is being able to be honest and people are gravitating to places they are allowed to be honest even if it turns out they were wrong/mistaken. That’s how we get closer to the truth.

We don’t know the truth for sure as to whether TPTB aren’t actually our best friends or not and whether this whole construct isn’t in fact in our best interests in the long run despite the short term pain. However being able to be HONEST about the way the situation appears and is affecting us is incredibly valuable and becoming popular again.

I don’t know the truth of why inner cities and trailer parks are the way they are in any absolute sense of the term truth… but being able to be honest about the way they are is the only thing that gives people stuck in them a chance to escape and those who want to help to do something that actually helps rather than unintentionally makes it worse.

Good provocation gig, admin etc. Incoming $$$. 🙂

I’d be afraid to comment too if I knew you had so many visitors. I thought it was like 200 a month 😉

I’ll cut you a milestone celebration check simply for surviving all the fantastic epic flame wars!

Enjoy it. You have written a lot of really good articles. We’ve all waited a long time for this to come crashing down. Maybe this is the ‘Big One’!

I can’t remember how I even found this website but I’m glad I did. It’s been a great place to visit and associate with other rational people. For a long time I was alone. That’s not a nice place to be. Can it really be like 10 years? I know it was pre-2008.

Thanks to all the regular commenters too, even RE if you’re lurking 😉 Without you all…

Congrats admin! Finnegan said he had destroyed your visitor count. Much like everything else he attempts, it was just one giant fail.

Anywho, fiat went out yesterday including $20 on behalf of Robert Finnegan. I know he’d love to contribute but all that exchange rate stuff is too difficult for him to manage. Maybe you could put up a one day banner or something that says: “Today’s TBP brought to you by Robert Finnegan”. He’d be soooo proud!

Hey, Admin, I’ve been thinking about starting a new article series entitled “SSS Schools Admin on (pick a subject).” Example: “SSS Schools Admin on Picking a Baseball Team Not Called the Phillies.” Heh.

I think it would be a runaway hit, much like the 30 Blocks and Wildwood articles. It might even go viral. People love to watch feathers fly and blood all over, yours of course. Got any suggestions for subject matter? Please stay away from economic and financial analysis. I may be crazy, but I’m not suicidal.

Jim, I’d love to meet with you. You have a good group here, I love them, I know they love me. I’m smart. I know your August numbers were due to the many articles that featured me. I build things; buildings, relationships, blogs even. Your welcome.
That Stucky fellow is something, I’d like to talk to him, answer his questions, I’m a fair guy, my blond hair is my own. Like I was telling Ramos, you have to wait to be called. I waited 30 years almost and the American people wanted me to run for President back then but now, seeing America fall into disrepair, I can build it up again. Just like I did Trump Tower.
Dignitaries come to the USA to visit Trump Tower, did you know that? It’s in my book, The Art of The Deal. You should place a link to it on your site. You have a great blog here Jim, I love the support. Really. Together, we can make America Great Again. Keep up the great work!

But here is the thing. How can you have 537,000 visitors, and there be 536,990 idiots. I am tired of being one of only ten smart ones in the room. You need to attract a better clientèle than the monkeys we have around here.

Now, the monkeys can start guessing who the other 9 are. This should be fun.

No matter how large the task at hand, if you take to it with a passion, if you love the work no matter how difficult it may be, if you perservere not because there may be a short term reward but because it is what you know to be the right thing then the end result will always be success.

You have one of the most consistent, one of the most liberal (in the truest sense of the word) and one of the most entertaining websites on the Interwebs. Congratulations and thank you for sharing it with us.
