QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, godliness is a way to wealth. Goodness with contentment is true wealth. We bring nothing with us into this world, and will take nothing away. If we have enough food and clothing, be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation, are trapped by foolish desires, and are ruined. The love of money is the root of all evil. And the wealthy abandon truth and pierce themselves with sorrows.”

1 Timothy 6

The Lord’s Prayer is something many Christians recite almost as a ritual with no consideration given to its true meaning as a teaching.

In it we are taught to ask God for our daily needs (our daily bread), not great wealth or a storehouse of money. We are taught to be fully dependent on him, not on the world, for our needs and that he will provide them in accord with what we need to live the life he has planned for us. When we follow this we are removed from the temptation of the world and pursuit of worldly things in place of Godly things.

Understanding each word and phrase of the Lord’s Prayer sums up all of the teachings of Jesus on our relationship with God, and meditating on their meaning opens up a full understanding of God, heaven, and his plan for us.

we have enough food and clothing, be content,
having been hungry once or twice that’s sage advice
