Lemmy Kilmister dead at 70.
I doubt there were many Motörhead fans here but Lemmy was one in a million. I doubt anybody in Rock & Roll ever worked harder and it would not be an understatement to say that few on Earth ever partied harder than Lemmy. Despite his hard livin’ ways he was always his own man. A mans man.
From a short write up here: http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/12/r-i-p-lemmy-kilmister-motorhead-frontman-dead-at-70/
“In a statement posted to Facebook, Motörhead wrote, “There is no easy way to say this… our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from the Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please… play Motörhead loud.””
Lemmy understood the evil that lords over us and he wrote and sang about it:
Just Cos You Got The Power, That Don’t Mean You Got The Right!
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled
And I died & I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time, That a year in the line,
Was a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered,
And we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history’s pages,
And we brawled and we fought
And we whored ’til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun,
We were food for the gun, and that’s
What you are when you’re soldiers,
I heard my friend cry,
And he sank to his knees, coughing blood
As he screamed for his mother
And I fell by his side,
And that’s how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud
And the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother
And she never came,
Though it wasn’t my fault
And I wasn’t to blame,
The day not half over
And ten thousand slain, and now
There’s nobody remembers our names
And that’s how it is for a soldier.
Lemme was and is a Metal God.
RIP Lemmy. I am very thankful to have seen you and Motorhead live more than once.
Wow I remember listening to that song when I was 16.

Never heard of the guy.
Thats the way I like it baby, I dont want to live forever.
I had a dream last night about lemmy talking to the devil about his cover of sympathy for the devil. And then my buddy called me first thing this morning to tell me lemmy passed. Strange. Great cover by the way.
the ACE OF SPADES! the ACE OF SPADES!
Casual Motorhead fan…
political musician/pretty good
Killed by Death.
Heard on Sirius satellite radio he had been in the hospital . They said everything was OK.Guess not.
Wow , I’m shocked some right-wing dirtbags here honor Lemmy, just don’t. I am/ was a Motörhead superfan and am disgusted by the freaks here who post crap like Newtown conspiracy theory. Don’t like my hero appearing on the same website. Go lick Nugents’ nuts you creeps.
Spitfireball– I am so sorry you have been offended by this site which you have clearly been coerced to come to by some hateful right-wing assholes. Go sip a nice wheatgrass smoothie and apply a liberal amount of butt-hurt cream, so you can recover from the horrors of having to read such awful free speech.
Or just don’t fucking come back…I promise you will not be missed.
Motörhead had great tunes (and lyrics). They were still touring right up to the end. I haven’t sat down and listened to them for a few years, but I need to do that today. I’m a little too old (45) for Motörhead now (and I’m sure many TBP readers are, too). It’s a pretty harsh, pummeling sound. For those of you who are new to Lemmy, I’d suggest listening to Lemmy’s previous band, Hawkwind. They were an early seventies band that pioneered a simple, mid-tempo hard rock mixed with goofy electronic noises and echo effects. Check out the double live album from 1973 (I think it’s called Space Ritual). After that tour, they kicked Lemmy out of the band (for using too much speed!), and he formed Motörhead.
Here is the third video about the Battle of the Somme that didn’t post in the article:
@Spitfireball, Fuck You! If you’re disgusted by what YOU read here, you have no one to blame but yourself so piss off you pathetic piece of shit. Lemmy would have hated you……trust me on that!
Don’t pick on spitfireball, just the latest example of the pussification of the American male.
Never was much of a Motorhead fan but have always been a Lemmy fan he lived life on his own terms for that i salute him. As far as spitfireball goes Wyoming Mike said it best.
In the world of rock & roll, Lemmy was the equivalent of The Most Interesting Man In The World. To give you an idea just how extraordinary Lemmy was consider these tidbits.
Lemmy was a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. If he couldn’t be the guy on stage he was equally happy being the guy that helped the guy on stage.
As an amateur historian, he probably knew more about WWI & WWII than most professionals.
He claims to have been chain smoking since he was seven years old. I saw him several times and he used one cancer stick to light another. Sometimes he had two or three burning at once.
In the UK he lived in a rent controlled council flat which is the US equivalent of a state owned ghetto apartment. He lived similarly in LA in a rent controlled,$900/month, two bedroom apartment that was conveniently “within stumbling distance” of The Rainbow in L. A.. Nearly every inch of every wall was covered in memorabilia and gifts he received from fans over his entire career.
If he wasn’t on the road, playing video games or asleep at home he was on a bar stool at The Rainbow in L.A playing video poker. He would talk to anybody and sign autographs non-stop if need be. If you wanted to drink with him……..go ahead but bring your A-game or stay on the porch.
He wrote and released 22 Motorhead albums over 38 years with the most recent in 2015. The band toured constantly. I’d imagine his passport must look like a damn phone book. No shit, dude was ALWAYS on the road.
Although it probably won’t be talked about much in the media, his passing will be bigger than the demise of Elvis or The Beatles for most fans of rock & roll. He truly was a legend in his own time.
A 2010 documentary about him is called: Lemmy (49% Motherf**ker. 51% Son of a Bitch.)
Lemmy is considered The Blacksmith of the Heavy Metal genre. He just called it rock & roll.
Lemmy claims to have consumed an entire bottle of Jack Daniels ever day since he turned 30. That’s damn near 40 years! If he was drinking whiskey then it was a sure bet that he was amped up on crystal meth too. He fucking loved whiskey and meth! Despite this he still managed to stay on top of business and work like a demon while almost never suffering the ill effects of seriously chronic drug and alcohol use. He was even diabetic and managed that as well.
I’m not saying I’d want the guy to be a role model for kids but the guy was nothing short of amazing, always living life by his own rules. I was fortunate to spend the early 80’s in Europe where Motorhead seemed to be in town every other month. I’ve been a fan ever since and quite frequently have Motorhead cranked on my stero while working late at night. The only way to listen to Motorhead is loud as fuck! Regardless of the subject, Motorhead tunes always put me in a good mood and it’s impossible to hear a Motorhead tune on the radio without cranking up the volume.

I remember growing up when “adults” said rock & roll was evil, devil music but to be honest I learned of and was inspired to learn a great deal more about history from numerous songs and bands and Motorhead was no exception.
From Motorhead’s most recent and final album, a tune written about the recession which he believed was a conspiracy (shout out to Bea) to enrich the bankers.
Now your time has come, a storm of iron in the sky
War and murder come again, lucky if you die
No way to rescue destiny, scream and curse in vain
You will never be remembered, no one knows your name
When the music changes then all is broken down
Mighty cities laid to ruin, burning to the ground
Murder is become the law, you cannot make a stand
Chaos rules the world, now mortal, brotherhood of man
You cannot hide the truth from me, I know what’s in your heart
Greed and jealousy, each equal, all your days now dark
Mighty mountains fall in dust, the world falls into hell
Faith in lying prophets, no one to lift the spell
Monsters rule your world, are you too scared to understand?
You shall be forever judged and you shall surely hang
We live and scrape in misery, we die by our own hand
And still we murder our own children, brotherhood of man
Blood on all our hands, we cannot hope to wash them clean
History is mystery, do you know what it means?
Slaughter, kill and fighting still, and murdered where we stand
Our legacy is lunacy, brotherhood of man
We are worse than animals, we hunger for the kill
We put our faith in maniacs, the triumph of the will
We kill for money, wealth and lust, for this we should be damned
We are disease upon the world, brotherhood of man
Fucking WPES!
Video for the lyrics above. (I hope)
Thanks I/S, I’m liking old Lemmy, may he rest in peace. The world is in need of legions of those who are a “Man’s Man”.
SSS says:
“Never heard of the guy.”
I’m shocked!
I’m sure the fact that a human being could consume enough drugs daily to kill most people and still function never entered into the narrative of those seeking to control every nuance of our lives.
If Lemmy had ever done something as uncool as playing golf, I’m sure he could have got you baked and you’d have become fast friends. I don’t think he did uncool shit like playing golf though, especially in a desert.
Heh!
I will always remember the guy for saying about music “when it’s too loud, then you’re too old”
that was kind of true, by the way…
Only one thing could and did kill Mister Kilmister: a Monday.
“Double up or quit”, bro.
