I am into family history and genealogy. I know for a fact that most of my ancestors had slaves. Every line of my family came to America in the 1700s with the exception of the one line (Ring) that came on the Mayflower.
By studying my family history, I’ve learned just how many direct descendants were patriots, officers, and soldiers in the Revolutionary War, the French & Indian War, the Civil War (both sides).
I’ve visited many gravesites, read and studied many deeds and documents, even visited family farms, one of which is a working Bicentennial Farm as cited by our good ole USA. That farm was, ahem!, worked by slaves owned by my great-great-greats….Now worked by a distant cousin and owned through inheritance.
Apologize? For what? For the families’ hard work, fortitude, bravery, patriotism, values, and principles?

I saw an interesting study that showed only 7 to 8% of all white Americans had ANY lineage traceable to former slave owners.
The majority of white Americans back then were poor and did not own large plantations in need of labor…and secondly, most immigration of Irish, Germans, Balkans and Scandanavian descent happened after abolition and the start of the Industrial Revolution of the later 1800’s….

During the later days of the Roman Republic, Sicily was mostly carved up into big latifundia (“factory farms” or plantations) worked by a preponderantly slave population. The 1st and 2nd Servile Wars (the Spartacus rebellion was the 3rd) were confined entirely to Sicily.
We weren’t just slaves; we were uppity *murdering* slaves then and throughout the rest of history (you’re online; look up “Sicilian vespers”).

My uncle took 15 years to finally immigrate to the USA some 25 years ago. He took a well-paying job (minimum wage) at a chile processing plant in Chaparral, NM north of El Paso. He also had various other jobs and has worked hard most of his life here. My mom tells him he should retire, he can collect social security at his 67 years, he refuses to stop working only to do nothing; which is what retirement means.
Because it goes with the territory, he complains; I work hard to pay taxes for those on welfare.

He also had various other jobs and has worked hard most of his life here. My mom tells him he should retire, he can collect social security at his 67 years, he refuses to stop working only to do nothing; which is what retirement means.
Because it goes with the territory, he complains; I work hard to pay taxes for those on welfare.
