Question of the Day, July 15

What is your stance on global warming? Frankly, I’m just glad that a government office, one government office, anywhere was abolished.

BRITS CUT CLIMATE DEPARTMENT IN POST-BREXIT VOTE SHAKE-UP. THE MOVE COMES MONTHS AFTER MASSIVE FLOODING IN THE UK
By Meaghan Lee Callaghan Yesterday at 3:58pm

With the new government forming under Conservative PM Theresa May, the Department of Energy and Climate has been absorbed into a larger, expanded Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
As Theresa May comes into power as prime minister of the United Kingdom, shuffling department leaders are moving forward with the disbanding of the Department of Energy and Climate (DECC).

The DECC will now be incorporated with other departments under the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Some British organizations and politicians are worried about what this means for the UK’s commitment to fighting climate change, as the country still has not ratified last year’s Paris Agreement.

Former DECC secretary Ed Milibrand, who lead the department under a Labour government, called the plan “plain stupid.”

But others believe that the government is already under the direction of established law, like the Climate Change Act, which delineates the cutting of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Also, the new head of the expanded department, Greg Clark, has written papers in the past on creating a successful low carbon economy. “I am thrilled to have been appointed to lead this new department charged with delivering a comprehensive industrial strategy, leading Government’s relationship with business, furthering our world-class science base, delivering affordable, clean energy and tackling climate change,” Clark told BBC.

While the new Conservative government is shaking up departments, other changes have also brought up negative sentiments. May has recently placed Boris Johnson, former London mayor, as foreign secretary, a position on par with the U.S.’s Secretary of State. Johnson, an already controversial politician, has made contradictory comments on climate change, including conflating weather and climate and praising legislation to cut emissions.

As Britons deal with more frequent floods, other natural disasters, and nervous anticipation to finally ratify the Paris agreement, a restructuring and removal of a department specifically centered on climate change has added to distaste.

Climate change doesn’t warrant any effort. If it happens, who cares? The two biggest countries are Russia and Canada. On a related note, it doesn’t look there’ll be a re-vote on Brexit.

It wasn’t abolished, Mikey. The climatards kept their jobs. Anyway, that’s the UK. The Brits could abolish their entire government and it wouldn’t mean shit to any merkin.

Ed, you might want to reconsider that word. Just a thought.

IF there is global warming, it is caused by the sun, not by the activities of us insignificant ants walking on the stone. For my daughter’s grade school class I scaled out the size of the sun compared to the earth. Do this yourself and you will see the validity of my argument. If you shrink the sun down to the size of a basketball, the size of the earth is about as big as a bb.

It is always going to be getting either colder or hotter, nature rarely is static. Change of our temps happen hourly as the sun moves across the sky, daily as the sun rises and sets and yearly as seasons change and our planet orbits the sun. To think that we humans can in any way stop this ancient and designed process is almost god-like thinking. I’d be more worried about what might happen if scientists started trying to further alter the weather–they rarely think things through to all of the possible negative outcomes.
I do believe that as stewards of our planet that each of us can do the little things without government regulation or interference. Don’t litter, compost, combine trips/errands in the car, turn back the AC or oil heat –these make sense responsibily and economically.

When gov’t officials and eco-Nazi’s use the phrase ‘climate change’, they are referring to the CO2 GloBull Warming. They are NOT referring to Natural Climate Change.

“….delivering affordable, clean energy and tackling climate change,” Clark told BBC.

Affordable, clean energy speaks to NG and Nuclear and Hydro. Solar and Wind are not affordable or reliable for the grid.

The UKs 6,857 existing industrial wind turbines (potential capacity 14GW) usually delivers less than 2 GW.

You can see the output of individual wind farms across Europe here – http://rwe-renewableslive.com/#/map/EU

& this is the French grid – http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/france/

After living most of my life in the far north I can honestly say that if global warming were an issue I wouldn’t have left in the first place. When -30 starts to feel down right balmy because last week it was -50 the talking heads yammering about global warming warrant little more than scorn. I say bring it on. We’ll grow oranges in the Yukon….

Climate change, global warming…cooling, has been, and will be a constant in the evolution of planet earth, hell the universe.
The problem is mans ego, greed, corruption or whatever, to believe that we can actually do something about it.
What would happen if some politicians discovered that the biggest threat to mankind was the expansion of the universe, could or rather would we be able to raise taxes enough to counter and annul?

Some scientist have a theory that radiation from dying stars from thousands or millions of years ago have affected, and will continue to affect the earths climate. Causing Ice Ages, mass extinction events, etc.

The problem is people confuse theory with proof. We have lots of theory’s, but no proof, and I don’t believe we’ll ever have proof in our lifetimes, too political.

I bet that Urban Heat Islands contribute more to Global Warming than the CO2 Green House Effect. Almost every day this summer I see the cumulonimbus clouds explode around big cities in the satellite pictures. PS: They are stealing the rain my crops need (it rains more on asphalt and cement than it does on the fruited plain).

About the only constant in our reality is change. Climate change is an obvious fact (Ice age anyone?), but we puny humans causing global warming? I dunno, but I very much doubt it.
I’m still trying to get my head around this:

The Niburu Planet X System

“Major unheard of changes are currently appearing on the surface and atmosphere of the sun and all the planets. Astronomer Mike Lockwood from California’s Rutherford Appleton National Laboratories found that since 1901 the sun’s overall magnetic field has increased by 230%. Solar flares and storms have also increased. The earth’s moon now has a 6000 kilometer-deep atmosphere of Natrium that it never had before. Mercury, the planet closest to the sun, now has grown polar ice. Venus’ brightness has skyrocketed by 2500% and experienced major changes in its atmosphere in the last four decades. Meanwhile, further away from the sun than the earth, Mars has melted polar icecaps and its magnitude of storms has strengthened exponentially.
Jupiter has had the brightness of its plasma clouds increase 200% accompanied by a pattern of intermittent thickening then weakening. The largest planet in our solar system’s enormous belts have been changing color with radiation levels erratically waning and then flaring up again. An increase in asteroid and comet activity crashing into Jupiter likely from Nibiru’s entrance into our solar system has also been observed. During the last three decades the jet stream on Saturn’s equator has slowed in velocity while X-rays at the equator have spiked. Uranus has become brighter with a huge flare-up of storm activity when its surface before was always placid. Neptune has also increased in brightness by 40%. The atmospheric pressure on Pluto has jumped up by 300% despite it moving further from the sun. The glowing plasma on the edge of our solar system has increased 1000%. The profound changes being measured in space are unprecedented. An increase in energy emission is changing the fundamental structure of all matter throughout our solar system…”
“… For the last 2000 years the earth’s magnetic field has been decreasing gradually. But in the last 500 years that decrease has become much more dramatic. Just this month scientists have been shocked at the alarming rate that the earth’s magnetosphere has been disappearing. The planet’s natural shield preventing solar winds and radiation from reaching the earth’s surface are being lost. This disturbing discovery comes while solar storm activity is also flaring up this year.”

(Apologies for the length of my post. Not.).

Alternatively the question could be put to this this woman, it sounds like she might be a bit of an expert:

‘East Bay mom up for White House honor for work on climate change.’

“Vien Truong of Oakland will be named a White House Champion of Change for Climate Equity for her work to end environmental racism and empower communities of color to join in the fight against climate change.”

It warms it cools just as it has long before me and will long after me. So what. But if you want to control the world, then it is something new that is going to kill us all. If that is so, can we really stop it?

Stucky, I don’t think again? will work as a QOTD. It’s politics, not climate change. Fine, I’ll submit a Friday-type question if only to appease your Austrian ass!
