Maybe it’s genetic.

I do like the little Davids of the world. They usually are more interesting to chat with when you are a teacher’s aid or homeroom mom.

We had an asshole of a maintenance guy where I work who would frequently walk up to to people and extend his arm with a closed hand in a manner that indicated he had something to give you. Apparently when someone familiar to you does this, a persons natural reaction is to unconsciously extend their arm with an open hand to receive what is being offered. I never gave it much thought until he complained that I was the only person at work who would never make a move to receive whatever was being offered. It irritated him that I would not comply and he asked why. I told him I wanted to see what was being offered first. Turns out he was just offering some small piece of garbage and he took great delight in fooling people into accepting garbage…..usually multiple times.

I think little David Williams and I were cut from the same cloth.

I salute little David Williams for not going along with something pointless if he didn’t feel like it. I had cancer treatment, 2 operations and 34 lovely radiation sessions 5 and a half years ago. In the hall leading to the room where the radiation treatments were given there was a long banner, something like 40 feet long and maybe 4 feet high. You were supposed to sign it when you were done your treatments. There was some kind of message on it about how you were a cancer survivor.

I refused to sign it. I told them that part way through the radiation treatments and they argued with me a little bit and assured me that somehow they would get me to sign. I said nothing and just walked away when it was all done.

The nurses were, invariably, wonderful. The doctors I encountered were all some variation of asshole.

You know what’s funny HSF? That people are projecting the idea of independent and judgemental thought on a three year old who’s brain is not developed enough to make a decision based on what people here are suggesting, and who probably was throwing a tantrum…

Still though, thumbs down on how the adult tried to shame a three year old…
