HAPPY 40TH ROCKY

Rocky went into theaters 40 years ago today. Man I’m old. Won the Oscar. Great, gritty, inspirational movie.

Hear you brother. I was 26 when this film was released and it was a very inspirational film. One felt good after leaving the theater having viewed it. Today, young people probably need to find a safe space to avoid being frightened by the “graphic violence” of it. Seems to me there’s a collective hysteria, actually a plague of mental illness sweeping the nation in 2016. I still maintain that once several dozen of these violent protesting assholes are shot down in the street by the PTB, this shit will cease and desist in short order. Reality has a way of sobering people up.
And on a lighter note, any guy that says he didn’t get choked up at the end when Rocky held The Belt over his head and said “Yo, Adrian. I did it.” is bullshitting you.

Invictus

OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
