Nowdays Stucky is the best consistent commenter. He will even do what nearly no other person here will do…admit when his mind has been changed. That is epically fucking badass. It says a lot about a person to have the ability to maintain a strong opinion yet be able to constantly analyze why they hold it. Lots of people have strong opinions, but damn near nobody knows how to change their own.

I wish this question wasn’t asked …. asking to pick favorites …. it can lead to so much discontent …. “why didn’t so-and-so pick ME?” ….. by picking just one you leave out dozens of others equally worthy …. nevertheless, thank you for the mentions folks, even if it is embarrassing to me, it really truly is.
I could never ever pick a “favorite” for there is waaaaay to much freaking talent here, and that’s the goddamn truth. I (used) to spend a lot of time on my other “favorite” sites, especially on the comments section cuz that’s where you get a real feel for what the masses think …. and I’m telling you there really really is no better site that I’ve ever ever found with better, smarter, more interesting commentors than TBP. You know it, we know it. And that’s why I rarely read comments on other sites anymore. What’s the point when you have the best?
H_F actually makes me quite jealous . Really. The way he is able to describe MUNDANE events (and that’s NOT a criticism) is breathtaking to behold … how in the fuck can you make fixing fence posts and milking cows interesting? Yet, he does, and the accompanying life lessons are so illuminating. Robert Gore amazes me with his ability to do at least one lengthy well written article per week. WTF! … it literally takes me about 2 weeks minimum for me, often much longer. El Coyote is the wittiest person here, never fails to make me smile even when he’s being a dick and I will always always read his stuff. BB is a fucken moran, but ya gotta love a guy who works hard driving a truck with a little pussy next to him. Uncola was once a foe, now a friend, how the hell did that happen? Because TBP unites. RiNS is smart as hell and is one of the best shitflingers around. Admin changed my life. Really.

My favorite commenter is HSF. His posts are insightful. It is obvious he thinks with great care as he weaves his thoughts into posts. He makes intelligent points with well-honed, positive wordcraft, not the negativity of bombast and hurtful, ‘sound-bite’ words. Plus a very readable writing style.
Least favorite is merely my private opinion concerning my particular preferences so shall go unpublicized.
I would give a shout out to Admin for his truly exemplary efforts for his many years of chronicling the numbers behind the public spin of retail statistics and reporting. Admin’s take-no-names style of reporting the facts in the annual reports and on the ground, week after week and year after year deserve great credit. For a working man with a working wife and two teen boys to generate this quality of real-time analytics for such a long period of time and pepper it with sporadic and colorful reports from the 30 Blocks deserves commendation and wider recognition. Hat’s off to you, Mr. Quinn!

While like all of you I have my favorite commentators & article writers,what I like about this place is the depth or bench strength of the commentators here.
Most blogs have a few people who make good comments but practically every other one I’ve ever been on seems to have large #s of people who just spout off as “experts”or put down people that they disagree with or catch in a mistake.
This site has a much larger # of knowledgeable & interesting people who comment and the disagreements are mostly good natured.
I concur with the often repeated statement that it is the body of commenters that makes this place so unique, far above any other forum, blog or website I have yet stumbled across and that’s since the early 90’s. Constantly unearthing new material, bringing in extremely diverse points of view and always finding a way to make the contentious nature of the 4th turning humorous and genuine give the bench a depth that simply cannot be matched elsewhere.
If I have to pick one writer it is Jim Quinn, not only for his ability to craft historically important masterpieces like the recent Thomas Paine essays, but his earnest and heart-wrenching, first-person accounts of the 30 Block series that remind me of Sinclair Lewis or Tom Wolfe but true. Add to that his uncanny ability to draw some of the best contributors to his site day after day with fresh and original material.
And whoever writes BW has proven themselves to have the ear of a Mencken and the humor of Twain. Really funny and always scathing with his ability to hit the mark dead center.
I thought I had BW pinned one time but he’s like the one-armed man from The Fugitive.
I said, ‘he’ since you said that. Often, I have suspected a woman. T4C? SAH? Avalon?
The women here are smart, secure and could be brutal enough to write that character.
Maybe we will never know.
I don’t have any favorites, per se, but what I do appreciate more than anything else here is the freedom of speech and the online sense of community, in that order.
When I first arrived here I found the free flow of ideas to be intoxicating, but, after a while, I realized what really made this place special was the “community of commenters”. For this we need to thank Admin first for creating the site, followed by the “big dogs” for keeping it going and chasing off the…. shall we say…. the… “disingenuous” (i.e. trolls).
I am grateful for the ability to imbibe, vent and test various ideas here. Anyone can have their say here if they so choose. Just be prepared to defend and debate them:

Was on the road all weekend so I thought about this one a bit before I got home and could sit in front of the keyboard. No favorite but will admit that TBP has the best comments section of any blog or online publication I’ve ever read.
I think it’s because, at least in terms of the regulars, most have been here going back and forth with one another for so long that eventually, our real personalities start to seep through the online personas. This is especially true for those of us who are less anonymous than others but is generally true of most here regardless. At any rate – it makes the interaction a lot more genuine and real. If we were all sitting around a pub together I’m not sure the conversation would be much different than what it is now and I’m almost positive that EC would be drinking something with the word ‘virgin’ in front of it.
And by the way. Don’t think I didn’t notice that none of you assholes mentioned me in your cute little lists. All I got to say about that is the feeling is mutual. Jerks.
FM, can you believe BW got mentioned along with the truly great? Ahhh. Admin should have broken out more subcategories, I’m sure we’d get listed under something.

Personally Francis Marion and James the Deplorable Wanderer are tied for 1st place as my favorite commenters on the Burning Platform. They are so insightful and intelligent with such keen wits and both have amazing senses of humors.
