Spouse and I have been having a heated discussion on the topic and pulled from our collective memory attic something both us had buried in our TV memories-
Icky Twerp and the Slam Bang Show. Amazing!
(children these days would never be allowed to watch such depraved slapstick)
Also Wunderdog, Mighty Mouse, Huckleberry Hound, Shari Lewis with Lamb Chop. I loved Lamb Chop.

Even as a kid I wanted to chuck it all and find an exotic place where without ALL THE FUCKING PEOPLE.
Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip,
that started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin’ man,
the Skipper brave and sure,
five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour,
a three hour tour.
The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
the Minnow would be lost.
The Minnow would be lost.
The ship aground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
with Gilligan,
the Skipper too.
A millionaire and his wife,
a movie star,
the proffessor and Mary Ann,
here on Gilligan’s Isle.
(Ending verse)
So this is the tale of our castaways,
there here for a long long time.
They’ll have to make the best of things,
it’s an uphill climb.
The first mate and his Skipper too
will do their very best,
to make the others comf’terble
in their tropic island nest.
No phone ,no lights, no motor car,
not a single luxury
like Robinson Crusoe
it’s primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friends,
you’re sure to get a smile,
from seven stranded castaways
here on Gilligan’s Isle!
Nope, I saw the writing on the wall decades before a scavenging desert dog like you. Why would you call yourself a coyote? Are you some kind of Mexican human trafficker? Better watch out, Trump is gonna get ya, Trump is gonna get ya tonight.
Wipper, I went through several interesting monikers. Stucky liked this one and asked me to come back to it after I attempted to use another, more decent one, Full Retard.
FM, you reminded me that the Wonderful World of Disney show was on tv on Friday evenings at one time during the early 70’s. Otherwise, it had always been on the weekend. My favorite was Charlie the lonesome cougar. There was also a story about a coyote.
There is a lot of symbolism in the coyote. The barking dog is described as the epitome of desperation, it is the Indian trickster, a human smuggler, a cartoon hero similar to California’s El Zorro, a Mexican restaurant in LA, a banda singer in Mexico, a cartoon character.
The better half had a color TV by the mid 60’s. Almost nobody had more than one TV. It wasn’t a thing to have two cars or two TVs.
However, we were delighted when my dad stopped at the thrift store and brought home one of those old b/w sets with the metal tube legs, VHF and UHF dials on either side of the tube. The UHF dial was mostly decorative, you didn’t get anything on it and if you did, it was a Mexican station with a poor pic. Plus you had to click through 80,000 channels on that dial, fuck that. We had the 3 main channels on the VHF dial and we were happy.
My older sister was a fraidy cat but she would stay up with me late on a Friday night to watch a scary show like Thriller or Outer Limits. My mom never liked watching the Spanish language ‘novelas’ and instead preferred westerns, she would always enjoy Have Gun, Will Travel, she fancied Richard Boone looked like my dad. I liked Gunsmoke. Bonanza depressed me because it reminded me that it was Sunday and I would have to go to school the following day.
It’s funny that my mom spoke little English but she wasn’t hooked on Spanish programs. She liked I Love Lucy but otherwise, I don’t recall her watching much TV, she spent her days cooking and cleaning. As the daughter of migrants, following the crops in the Western US, she had grown up with chores, hard work and little else.
I must say here that one reason I liked Mrs. Rollins, aside from her being a nice lady, she reminded me of my mom. She told us one time that she had had a Mexican boyfriend in the camps or ‘the field’ as beaners call it. One of the boys said, Nahh, why would he like you? She said, because I was so fair.
Wippers, Stucky is not my master, Svengali, guru or anything but a good friend.
The first moniker was El Shaka but I changed it since he got shot on a Mexican highway. There for a while, a lot of singers who refused to pay the vig got shot on stage, after a show or ambushed on a highway.
Also loved the Monkees and the Partidge Family, but that’s because I was noticing boys then.
(Remember, I’m a female. Don’t let the nickname fool you).
Unspoiled, She was a guest on Larry King many years ago. Even though she was already in her 50s or 60s, the caller was overcome just to be speaking to Jeannie. I imagine every guy in America could feel that guy’s pain.
Rocky & Bullwinkle. “Shar up yer mouth”
We had a Romanian chick in town 8 or so yrs ago. I asked her to say “Moose and Squirrel”. She had no idea…best laugh of the year upon her utterance. Pure Pottsylvania, baby. Home of the Assassin-8.
Not to mention Captain Peter “Wrongway” Peachfuzz who ran the CIA into the dust.
CIA Agent: ” I’m with Army…….Intelligence.”
Bullwinkle: “That’s a contradiction in terms.”

Next, we need to do one on shows we hated.
1) Maude.
2) Mary Tyler Moore (although it was supposed to be so great.)
3) Rhoda.
I was very young when these shows were on, but couldn’t stand them. I guess I wasn’t into women’s lib even as a young kid.
Apparently, I’m odd because Lucy shows weren’t my favorites. I like “I Married Joan” better than “I Love Lucy.” I really loved Joan Blondell’s movies, too.
Oh, I loved “F Troop.” It’s so hard to remember all the great shows, especially the oldies, because they were so good.
Remember “Bachelor Father” and “My Little Margie?” They were before my time but I used to love the reruns late at night after cable came on the scene.
Weezer was my favorite from “Our Gang.”
And who can forget Jacky’s “mooning” over Ms. Crabtree? “Oh, Ms, Crabtree, I love you, I love you, I love you.” 🙂 Weezer, his little brother, gave him a hard time about that.
I liked the Bowery Boys movies. Did they have a TV show also?

Bugs Bunny and his friends especially roadrunner. Beep beep
One thing I liked about the older shows is all age groups could watch them, including the young kids. And they usually had good story lines as well.
I no longer watch TV at all, haven’t done so for at least 5 years, because I think the shows absolutely suck. I can watch the old shows I like online if I get a hankering to. The only thing I miss is watching the old movies because they’re harder to watch online if they’re broken up into several videos. And usually copywrite is used to take the videos down.

Wippy, that was a time when most shows were escapist – Lost in Space, Gilligan’s Isle, Twilight Zone, Voyage Under the Sea, Green Acres, etc.
Your childhood must’ve sucked if you wanted to escape so badly.

I like ‘El Coyote’. Don’t mess with it. It fits you.
Speaking of which… still one of my favorite series:

I guess if you think the coat fits, I’ll wear it.
Mexicans had tv’s in the olden days?? Who knew…. 🙂
Bea, I almost shed a tear to read koko’s comment.

Well, I strayed a bit.
Here you go Coyote,a tribute to you from a great Canadian.
You should have stuck with the first one. Is Stucky your master?
Wippers, Stucky is not my master, Svengali, guru or anything but a good friend.
The first moniker was El Shaka but I changed it since he got shot on a Mexican highway. There for a while, a lot of singers who refused to pay the vig got shot on stage, after a show or ambushed on a highway.
Gilligan’s Island was always my favorite. (How I would love to live on that island now.)
The Andy Griffith Show was second.
Oh, I almost forgot, Carol Burnett.
Also loved the Monkees and the Partidge Family, but that’s because I was noticing boys then.
(Remember, I’m a female. Don’t let the nickname fool you).

Don’t forget Hogan’s Heroes
The Banana Splits and Laff-a-lympics
That’s a winner!
My favorite shows as a kid weren’t on TV, they were on the radio.
Does no one remember the Walt Disney Fantasy Hour, the Shadow, Little Orphan Annie, Bobby Benson and the B-Bar-B Riders?
I wish they still had shows like that on the radio. I would listen.
The Three Stooges
Benny Hill!
That’s an adult show. 🙂
The original Pippi Longstocking. Not the cartoon or the remake.
She had a faux appaloosa, a monkey, gold treasure and her own pirate ship.
