Gorsuch is a major triumph of the Trump administration in light of the amount of (unjustifiable) opposition to him by the left, and hopefully signals the beginning of the end of that “go along to get along” attitude on the part of the Republicans toward the Democrats that they’ve been developing since the Clinton administration.

Nuclear Option? Please, if little chuck u. wants to filibuster, then he needs to get off his duff and start yammering. Same thing applies when the Republicans want to block something, get up and start talking. The notion that 60 votes are needed to pass a bill or confirm a nomnee is ridiculous.

From my understanding, the 60 votes were needed under Senate precedent (rules) that required them to end the debate and confirm or refuse the nomination which only requires a majority vote.

Changing that rule allowed closing the debate with with a simple majority instead of 60 votes so the confirmation can be voted on.

Maybe I’m wrong about it, if so I would appreciate a further explanation.

You’re correct, Anon.

The Constitution says exactly NOTHING about HOW either the Senate or the House conducts its business. They can adopt a “clothing optional” rule if they are so inclined. Heh.
