Nothing wrong with anarchy (not no rules, just no government). Most definitely the democrats are the complete opposite of anarchists, though the anti-free speech and anti-constitution agendas are quite clear.

Yes, “anarchy” is often used as a synonym for “lawlessness” but that is not correct, just as “fascism” is often used (wrongly) as a synonym for “authoritarianism”.

Fifteen or sixteen years ago I spent quite a bit of time in online exchanges with the anarchists at Strike-the-root http://www.strike-the-root.com/ and was very impressed with the high ethical standards they kept. No bomb throwing, violence espousing, foul mouthed tirades at all. They were basically the logical extreme of Jeffersonian ideas. “If less government is better, then no government at all is best.” They still upheld the ideas of not initiating violence. The only acceptable reason for violence is self defense. Private institutions would fill the functions currently done by governmental agencies. For example, do away with the FDA and have something like Underwriters Laboratory test and approve products if sellers wished. There is a lot more, but you get the basic idea.

I have often thought that the reason why most people automatically think “bomb throwing” when the word “anarchists” is heard, is due to a 100 year old propaganda campaign to keep the ideas rejected. Personally, I think that minarchism is probably as close as humans at present can come to anarchism. A large scale human society based on true anarchism is as unlikely (in my humble opinion) as a large scale gorilla society based on equality of the sexes. I don’t think we are good enough for anarchism yet.
