I’ve been away from TBP for several months (basking in Hillary’s defeat) after checking the site daily since the early years of Obama’s dark reign. I genuinely needed the break.
I check the site to remind myself there are others who think like me; I sure as hell don’t encounter them in daily life. This is one of the few bastions of liberty, critical thought, and intelligent humor. There’s no ulterior motive. No one is trying to sell something. No one is representing an official party or organization. In the circUS populated by mindless freaks, bearded women, intellectual midgets, and free shit clowns, it’s a welcome reprieve to commune with the few lion tamers who remain.

Many reasons, but what I like most is the total protection of the First Amendment. I have recommended the site to many people always praising Admin for not only his writing, but for his refusal to censor articles and comments. I think I speak for some others as well when I thank Admin for his efforts, and his protection of free speech no matter the subject. Thank you.
The “J” is pretty far from the “R” on the keyboard but I’ll0 still give you the benefit of the doubt, especially since your boys have been bottom feeders all season.
Just playing. You are right tho. Still the Jays are playing better these days although I still think the season is going to be a right-off. They dug too deep a hole to start the year. Actually truth be known if Jays can’t win I’d rather see Rays then anyone else in East winning it…
Geeze I just looked at standings and surprise surprise if the blue birds win tonight they will be a 500 ball club. Might actually be worth buying the beer to watch the games again…
RiNS, both of our teams are average at best, and average teams don’t play many games in October. The bullpen is the weak link for the Rays currently and the starting rotation, while not a disaster, could do better. Getting Boxberger back into the bullpen could be a huge lift as well as getting Duffy back at shortstop and Ramos at catcher. There is still time. It was about this time last year that the Rays lost something like 23 of 26, effectively ending their season. The good thing for both of our teams this year is that despite the mediocrity the Rays and Jays are only 5 and 6 games back respectively. It is still anybody’s division. The Rays are getting healthier and their hitting (especially home runs) is improved. This is where the juggling of 40 man rosters by management can help to make or break a team. Nothing would be better than seeing New York and Boston at the bottom of the division come October. One can hope. Good Luck!
Good synopsis. Pretty much lays out the situation. The Jays starting rotation has been a disaster. Lots of injuries. Josh, Martin and Tulo going on DL didn’t help. They are rounding into form now. May was pretty good. But playing playoff baseball in May doesnt leave much in tank come September.
Hopefully it isnt too late. The good thing is that there are holes in all the teams. It isnt a runaway for anyone. Nothing would make happier then to see Jays and Rays at top come the end and Yanks and Sox at bottom. But you are right they are both just average. Maybe though this year that can be good enough.

I came here originally for Admins great writing and found that I enjoy the comments more then most any other place I’ve been. I get here most days when I can and always find something I enjoy reading.

Sort of seconding the 1st Amenment no-censorship crowd above.
There are drawbacks, because everything is on a continuum: ranging from the no-nonsense Zman articles and HSF poetics to EC and BL flinging poo on everyone down to Dougie Pecker and JLittle’s total absence of critical thought. You know it’s real and uncensored because it IS a continuum, and everyone gets their word in, even the village idiots. I left off RINS and FM and several others, but I wasn’t out to list everyone, just illustrate the variety.
When we all sound the same this place will die. As long as we can generate a good bitchfest once in a while, we’ll do good.

Trump has his faults, magnified 1000x by the media and democrats, but they pale to insignificance beside the appalling nightmares Hillary would have heaped upon us. Do you think Hillary would have abandoned the TPP, rolled back any regulations, nominated a “conservative” SCOTUS justice? Would she have abandoned the Paris climate treaty, tried to repeal ObamaCare, talked about the last-minute stuff Obama threw in as he was leaving that Trump’s folks are rolling back?
BL, I don’t always agree with your positions, and I don’t expect you to always agree with mine. But looking at the alternative, Trump was a blessing, and you don’t get many of those in D.C.

There is no real attempt being made to repeal/eliminate Obamacare(repackaged under a different name and slightly rearranged)
TPP will be repackaged at a later date under a different name if/when they want to roll it back out.
The conservative SCOTUS appointee has signed on to decisions to disarm citizens taking their firearms from them, permit or no permit to carry. Not quite the conservative you were sold.

Having worked on the construction phases of an oil rig and one of the largest super tankers ever built in the United States and worked with machinests that were the guys that milled the heat shields for the Apllo Missions and the NO:2 Machine Shop was the only place in the world that could do it ! It’s all gone now and most of the men like myself are old and ailing cheated out of the retirement from years of service . This site allows me to vent and share my American Experience and for that I thank you

Francis – it is rainbows and lollipops everywhere I go. It is amazing how small children and dogs follow me around. They gravitate to warmth, kindness, and generosity. Ha! On my best day I make grumpy old men seem like Mary Poppins. (Actually, I think kids and dogs instinctively know they are safe around me. No one is going to mistreat a child, or dog, in my presence. So they hang around. Plus I tell fart jokes. Always a plus with kids!)
Not to mention the hoards of women I have to fend off (seriously!). I am no looker and that is for sure. Butt ugly is no understatement, combined with the personality of a pitbull with an infected tooth. My wife simply cannot understand it. She knows I do not do anything to promote this stuff, but women can’t keep their hands off me. Even with their husbands around. It is uncomfortable. Damned if I can figure it out.
Women must have incredible radar, then. I dress cheaply, drive a pick-up, usually do not wear a watch. They must see what my wife wears and go by that, or they must intuit the situation.
My dad said money draws women like shit draws flies. I hate it when he was right.

It is hard to get away from them quietly in polite surrounds. Mostly it is just funny. I am too old for that crap.
I suspect you are right – somehow who I am comes through. Stopped worrying about that stuff a long time ago. It screwed me up trying to mold myself into a round hole. My background is too complex to pigeonhole. Grew up rough and poor, and in the end that shaped my character. Trying to be gentile never worked out.
