Barry Loudermilk wants concealed carry for lawmakers in DC after Scalise shooting

Via Washington Examiner
One Republican lawmaker believes that concealed carry reciprocity for members of Congress should be considered as part of possible security upgrades after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., was shot at practice for the congressional charity baseball game early Wednesday morning.Under Rep. Barry Loudermilk’s proposal, members who are allowed to conceal carry a weapon in their home state would be able to in Washington. Loudermilk, R-Ga., said the problem is that the nation’s capital does not recognize concealed carry licenses from other states.

“There are several things to look at,” Loudermilk said. “First of all, if this had happened in Georgia, he wouldn’t have gotten too far. I had a staff member who was in his car, maybe 20 yards behind the shooter… who back in Georgia carries a nine millimeter in his car. I carry a weapon. He had a clear shot at him. But here, we’re not allowed to carry any weapons here… Most of us are here in D.C., so how are you supposed to have it here?”

“I think we need to look at some kind of reciprocity for members here,” Loudermilk said. “But also we need to look at security detail. If Scalise hadn’t been on our team, it would have been really bad.”

Scalise warrants a security detail because he’s on the GOP leadership team.

“We aren’t any more special than anybody else, but we’re targets,” Loudermilk said. “This is exactly why there’s a lot of fear of doing town halls at this point.”

Republicans have been promoting gun reciprocity bills for years. Most recently, Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Richard Hudson introduced legislation calling for nationwide reciprocity that would require states to recognize concealed carry permits from other states. As of now, 41 states have at least partial reciprocity laws.

Earlier Wednesday, Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y., said that he plans to carry a handgun at public events.

“If you look at the vulnerability, I can assure you from this day forward, I have a carrier permit. I will be carrying when I’m out and about,” Collins said in a radio interview in Buffalo.

Barry should realize he is not a member of the nobility. If concealed carry reciprocity is a good idea, it should be legal for everyone, not just our elitist so called elites.

Special laws to allow members of congress the ability to excercise their second amendment rights ? This goes along with their exemption from insider trading laws or Affordable Healthcare Act ! The one rule and guide out of Washington DC be they from the right or left , Your shit is shit but my shit is stuff ! The bill of rights is a shield all American citizens have as a shield from tyrannical actions of government . Any move by representitives to alter reduce or eradicate these rights enumerated in the constitution and any local ordinances that restrict citizens from exercising those rights has no standing . Any law enforcement employee of government (the people) that violates the people’s rights becomes a criminal and judges that support those in law enforcement that violate citizens rights becomes a tyrant from the bench .
Congress as a law making body has for decades doled out special rules or regulations supporting one at the direct damage to another , tax laws , subsidies , special contracts and bail outs for some while others languish and hang by a thread or die on the vine . This is not what our country is about on so many levels ! Congress has protected themselves from being held accountable for their predecessors actions , thus compounding the issues .and problems those actions create . The law of unintended consequences reins supreme !
The acts of a mentally ill person who owned a gun is not the way to go for now . I hope it has not come to a final solution such as that . If it has God help us all . My sport shooting buddies knew right away (some former military) this was not a trained person with a plan ! Shooting from a conceiled position on an open field our congress people were lucky . To say now they deserve special rights over those they represent is ridiculous , every law abiding citizen has the right to have a means to defend themselves from attacks such as this ! One fact we as gun rights advocates know : when seconds count police help is only minutes away !

Meanwhile, us normal’s get treated to coverage of Gabby – I want you to not have ANY guns – Giffords bitching about how guns are bad and that crazies use guns. Of course, that should not apply to the people in the imperial city….
Maybe now that some of these asshats have smelled the real fear, that us normal’s deal with in reality land daily, some light bulb will go off, and maybe Gabby Giffords and the rest of the gun grabbers will be told by their own to sit down and shut up. Doubtful, but I sure hope so…

Barry, just go ahead and pack. That’s what the rest of us have to do. If you get popped for it, they’ll give you a little golden ticket and let you off.

Fuck him, reciprocity for everyone, not just the CONgress-critters.

Times like this are when it is blatantly clear the motives of the politicians.

A little reality dawns on a Congressman. PS: Saw a video of some Jewish girls in bikinis walking along the beach carrying their M-16s over their shoulders; no illusions about reality over there.

I’m not against carry. For it to be effective, you need to carry ALL the time. Carry when playing baseball? It’s not a solution.

Sorta like when you were in HS or college – and always had a condom in your wallet.

If there were even a single rifle there that someone could have grabbed and started shooting back it would have probably made a difference.

Or even a handgun, anything to return fire.

It isn’t that everyone present needs to be carrying to be effective, but at least someone should be.

Supreme Court left it up to the States to regulate firearms types and uses, they just can’t establish a total ban of everything for everyone.

What I mean, is how is outlawing the carrying of firearms not infringing on the right to bear arms? Seems like a clear infringement to me. I think the whole country started sliding towards what we have now with Alexander Hamilton. No wonder they created some BS play to celebrate the man. By the time old honest Abe came along and finished off any traces of what some of the founding fathers envisioned, the rest was just waiting, but the destination was set.

What he fails to mention is that 90 million of them are innocent black children who didn’t to anything being shot in the back by cops while holding their hands in the air and trying to surrender.

Or something like that.

As I’ve said before; all laws should be written such that they apply equally to everyone. Politicians should not be able to create laws that apply differently to different classes of people. It should be clear by now that they see themselves as special, more deserving of protections and not needing to fall under the strict rules and regulations they impose on everyone else. If there was one thing that the people on both sides, left and right could agree on it would be this.

However try to push thru this type of law and what you will discover is that the real division is not a left and right division, that’s just a diversionary tactic that hides the true division which is between those in control and those being controlled.

We should support this for a trial period which while going on we ramp up pressure for nationwide cc.
If they do not pass that we resist continuation of their right to carry.

The one place where American Citizens deserve and should demand absolute equality and treatment and protection under the law is from and thru all of our governmental systems . Federal , State , Local are all subject to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights ! I must inform all who read this , such is not the case ! It is inexcusable we have allowed our so called representitives to create such a shambles of our nation and its citizens . We need only look in the mirror when we explain to our grandchildren what happen to the country your grandfather fought with honor to defend . I doubt any of us want to tell them we were drinking beer and watching the game or Springer !
