THIS DAY IN HISTORY – CIA-assisted coup overthrows government of Iran – 1953

Via History.com

The Iranian military, with the support and financial assistance of the United States government, overthrows the government of Premier Mohammed Mosaddeq and reinstates the Shah of Iran. Iran remained a solid Cold War ally of the United States until a revolution ended the Shah’s rule in 1979.

Mosaddeq came to prominence in Iran in 1951 when he was appointed premier. A fierce nationalist, Mosaddeq immediately began attacks on British oil companies operating in his country, calling for expropriation and nationalization of the oil fields. His actions brought him into conflict with the pro-Western elites of Iran and the Shah, Mohammed Reza Pahlevi. Indeed, the Shah dismissed Mossadeq in mid-1952, but massive public riots condemning the action forced the Shah to reinstate Mossadeq a short time later. U.S. officials watched events in Iran with growing suspicion.

British intelligence sources, working with the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), came to the conclusion that Mossadeq had communist leanings and would move Iran into the Soviet orbit if allowed to stay in power. Working with Shah, the CIA and British intelligence began to engineer a plot to overthrow Mossadeq. The Iranian premier, however, got wind of the plan and called his supporters to take to the streets in protest. At this point, the Shah left the country for “medical reasons.”

While British intelligence backed away from the debacle, the CIA continued its covert operations in Iran. Working with pro-Shah forces and, most importantly, the Iranian military, the CIA cajoled, threatened, and bribed its way into influence and helped to organize another coup attempt against Mossadeq. On August 19, 1953, the military, backed by street protests organized and financed by the CIA, overthrew Mossadeq. The Shah quickly returned to take power and, as thanks for the American help, signed over 40 percent of Iran’s oil fields to U.S. companies.

Mossadeq was arrested, served three years in prison, and died under house arrest in 1967. The Shah became one of America’s most trusted Cold War allies, and U.S. economic and military aid poured into Iran during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In 1978, however, anti-Shah and anti-American protests broke out in Iran and the Shah was toppled from power in 1979. Angry militants seized the U.S. embassy and held the American staff hostage until January 1981. Nationalism, not communism, proved to be the most serious threat to U.S. power in Iran.

You just wait until SSS sees this article!

Anyway, I’ve studied up on Iranian history. And, I can tell you this ….. it was the Russians. Specifically, it was Putin … when he was four years old.

You have to wonder if this ‘success’ taught the corporatist thugs that run the intelligence cabal that working Sub rosa to undermine political structures is the most effective means to an end. It takes great effort to dismantle a structure from the top down and you’re very exposed to the light. Better to dig a bit under it and have it topple of it’s own weight. It further gives you the cover of darkness along with the other cockroaches and sewer rats. So if you wish ‘regime change’ you don’t send Jeb Stuart in with the cavalry, you simply explode the top dog’s head from behind a grassy knoll. Instant karma adjustment.

Funny thing is that I don’t recall ever being able to vote for something like this in ‘my’ government. An oversight, I’m sure. President Pense will fix it.

Wow you mean my government was interfering with the rights and will of a democratic government election leaving the people to accept what was best for American oil companies but not for the Iranian people who’s will was considered a non issue . Meanwhile I am supposed to accept that the Iranian people hate us and our freedom . Ya ok sure that’s it .
I have a great idea let’s sell Iraq the fixings to use poison gas on those American freedom haters . After all Saddam is a good dictator

Sure, oil was part of the deal. But at that time, the Texas Railroad Commission pretty much controlled the world price of oil. How? By control of oil production in the giant oil fields of Texas. A key word here is “allowables”, should you care to research.

The fear, during that part of the Cold War era, was that Mossadegh was not just nationalistic but also socialistic. At that time, the USSR was trying to work with Iran to somehow gain access to a warm-water port. Mossadegh was seeking support and was playing footsie with the USSR.

The overthrow of Mossadegh was part of the Truman doctrine of “containment” of the USSR and its grand strategy of world domination.

So instead of the commie boogeyman we had a military industrial complex stage one fucked up hell hole after another destroying us from within while enriching a small number of insiders all in the name of world peace . Now there is a policy load of shit sold to the American people . Knowing the real truth of who what where and why most families would rather have their sons and daughters back and most DAV’s would rather be whole and left to live in peace . Since WW2 my country has done very few things for the right reasons and the results speak for themselves . Our nation is a fucking shambles and all the Bible thumping yellow ribbon tying flag waving nonsense is not fixing or changing squat .
Frankly I am sick of the whole mess and do not believe anything my government announces NOTHING !
