Historically, flying commercially wasn’t cheap and the folks who could afford it were pampered for doing so. As the E-Trade commercial says, “First class is there to remind you you’re not in first class.”
Exactly. Airline deregulation during the Carter years led to a massive rise in competition and reduction of fares. Would you prefer the flight that couple was on, which cost $4,000 or the same flight for $400 bucks and a bag of pretzels?
The second picture is a bus.

Why’s the bottom picture a bus?
Why not use any number of other horrible images?
I Don’t Want This Night To End? Maybe they don’t but I sure do. Wake me up when they get to Dueling Banjos. I’ll probably like that part a lot more.

Airplanes have gotten a lot better since 1967. Back then it was LORAN or celestial navigation. No GPS, no Doppler radar and planes crashed.

O.K. Reality check. Every time I see those quaint photos of air travel in the 50’s and listen to people wax rhapsodically about how it was so much more elegant and comfortable to fly in those days I shake my head at how delusional they are. Yes, people dressed up to travel and yes the service was probably better and there was more room etc. etc. What everyone conveniently forgets about air travel in those times was that only the very well off could afford to fly, the odds of not surviving the trip were very much higher than today and it took a lot longer to get to your destination. Air travel today is the equivalent of taking a bus with wings. People don’t consider it to be an ” occasion ” to fly. If anything, they consider it to be an ordeal. I suppose it depends on your perspective. Lets examine what 21st century air travel actually is. Firstly, it’s relatively cheap ( compared to what it used to cost ). It’s a lot more convenient than it used to be. There is virtually nowhere in the world that you can’t reach in 24hrs or less. Most major cities have multiple flights to major destinations every day. It’s safe. Your odds of dying are greater from the cab ride to the airport than crashing or being blown out of the sky. If you really stop and think about it, what you are actually doing is cruising in a pressurized, heated/air conditioned tube 35,000 ft above the weather, sitting in a somewhat comfortable head rest equipped chair watching a movie while eating and drinking. The average flight is about 5 hours. Back in the ” Golden Age ” it would take 10 to 12 hours or more to fly across country with several refuelling stops along the way. Before international air travel, it would take weeks by plane and rail to reach a destination. Sure, it’s a lot less elegant, but that is a tradeoff for expediency. There, does that make you feel a little better?

The people that fly on airplanes now are the people that used to ride the bus.
The windows/drapery … not a plane.
The awful “2017” photo is actually a train, not a plane. FYI.
(Of course, trains were a lot nicer back in the day too.)
In 1967 the only niggers on the train were either checking tickets or serving drinks.
Yeah, whatever… getting screwed by everybody. Got it. This might be a good place to drop this WTF pirated video.
So, Taylor Swift WAS a country queen and now she’s a high school girls band queen in some really poorly advised shorts if you ask me.
She’s on this list
