Who Moved My Xanax?

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

The moral panic of “the Resistance” is back in DefCon 1 mode overnight just as the righteousness orgasm of the Golden Globe Awards was wearing off. Mr. Trump’s casual question to a couple of Senators vis-à-vis immigration policy — “Why do we want all these people from ‘shithole countries’ coming here?” — pushed the “racism” button at Resistance Central and CNN staged yet another of the orchestrated anxiety attacks it has perfected over the past year.

The spotlight in this three-ring circus of perpetual offense, indignation, and alarm shifts back from the alleged sufferings of movie actresses to another intersectional victim group from the Dem/Prog pantheon of oppressed minorities: would-be immigrants-of-color. The President’s vulgar animus proves the charge that at least half the country is a lynch mob.

Of course, the most interesting feature of this neurotic zeitgeist is the displacement dynamic among the political Left as its frantic virtue-signaling attempts to distract everybody else in the room from its own dark and shameful emotions about the composition of American culture. As a born-and-bred Boomer (ex-)liberal from Manhattan’s Upper East Side, I can assure you from direct experience that this group has, at best, ambiguous feelings about the lower orders of mankind — my Gawd, did he actually say that? — and, at worst, a certain unmanageable contempt that stirs deep fears of moral failure.

Mr. Trump’s remark raises another interesting question that has not received much analysis amidst the latest panic: namely, how much of a “shithole” is our own country these days? I would avouch, contrary to the limp narrative of boom times, that the USA is visibly whirling around the drain in just about every way that matters. Except for the centers of financialization — New York, Washington, San Francisco — most of our cities are hollowed-out wrecks, and visitors to San Francisco will tell you that the place is literally a shithole, from the army of homeless people who, by definition, have no bathrooms.

Our ghastly suburbs, where so many formerly middle-class Americans are now marooned in debt, despair, and civic alienation, have no prospects for serving as a plausible living arrangement anymore, and were so badly built in the first place that their journey to ruin is destined to be an epically short leap that will amaze historians of the future roasting ‘possums around their campfires.

All of the important activities in this land have been converted into odious rackets, by which I mean nakedly dishonest money-grubbing scams, especially the two sectors that used to be characterized by first, doing no harm (medicine), and seeking the truth (education). But everything else we do is infected by engineered falsehood and mendacity, including the news media, the law, banking, government, retail commerce, you name it. We’re living in a culture of pervasive control fraud, in which authorities set up looting and asset-stripping operations without any restraint.

There are certainly waves and cycles in history, and one them involves a society’s capacity for self-understanding. Sometimes, a culture is sturdy enough to permit a high level of collective self-awareness. And sometimes a culture is too flimsy or exhausted or sick to achieve even low levels of self-awareness. We are at a low point in the cycle, sunk in grievance fantasies and narcissism. The end result is we don’t know what we’re doing or why we’re doing it.

The immigration quandary remains, with its vexing questions. What if there isn’t enough of an American common culture left for anybody to assimilate into? Are we obliged to admit everyone in the world who wants to leave their own country? Do we care about how people get here, or how they behave once they are here? Does anything go, and nothing matter?

Yeah, i noticed that. 5.3 billion people make less money daily than a mexico mexican. How many should we let in? 10%? All of them? 1% destroys our nation in one generation. One. Math is a bitch.

‘5.3 billion people make less money daily than a mexico mexican’

That raises another question. How many of those 5.3 billion people deserve to live in Mexico, and get raised up to Mexican standards of living? Its the least Mexico could do, after all. They are a prosperous nation compared to pretty much everywhere in Africa. Shouldn’t they bring in at least a million or so Africans? It’s only fair.

Relatively sane…(((Kunstler))) still evades the key point, which is that when you import tens of millions of people from sh*tholes, you become one..I don’t recall America having any of these problems before the 1965 Immigration Act that opened the floodgates to low IQ, violent, 3d worlders….

Its got to dawn on even progressives that the US has more than 320 million people and is the third most populous nation on earth. We simply do not need immigration and haven’t for over half a century. We might take in a few thousand exceptional people each year but the idea that this can be a home for the dregs of the Third World is insane.

“Its got to dawn on even progressives that the US has more than 320 million people and is the third most populous nation on earth.”

Something else that never dawns on progressives. Their position on immigration is diametrically opposite of their supposed ‘global warming’ issue. Americans consume more resources per capita than pretty much everyone else on earth. An African living in America on welfare will consume vastly more resources than an African in Africa. This means more carbon emissions, more coastal flooding, more displaced africans, etc(according to the left, at least). So, if you say, as most leftists do, that we as a society need to consume more resources, the easiest way to do that is to make less Americans. And Europeans. The easiest way to do THAT is really really simple: stop importing 100’s of thousands of people from third world countries and making them consume 1st world levels of resources.

Kunt-sler is true to being a cunt.

Here we go, making ludicrous comparisons with the problems in the US (which I do not deny) to Turd World shitholes. Hell many of these places they just shit on the ground – don’t even have a hole to shit in.

My idea is for reverse immigration – let’s send our shithole dwellers: Baltimore / Shitsago / NYC / St Louis / Detroit – and export them to the shithole countries. I call this: Share the Wealth.

“this group has, at best, ambiguous feelings about the lower orders of mankind”

Those on the political right have no affinity for “the help” either.

“A woman in a Range Rover with East Hampton beach permits complained to the Los Angeles Times:
I don’t think the common person is getting it. Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them. My college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated; two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”

@Marsh: I’m probably wasting my breath. You haven’t given one reason (how about two or three) why we should ‘import’ third world people – and make the citizens of the US pay for their living expenses / cell phones / transportation / food / clothing / housing / medical care. And what promise are those people giving us? What are they going to do that that 40,000,000 unemployed US citizens can’t do?

I think you’re missing the obvious. No politician, of either party, Trump included, has ANY intention of restricting immigration. It’s about reducing the cost of labor by increasing the supply of labor. Those 40 million unemployed would probably take those jobs if the market forces were allowed to drive up the wage. Those market forces have been short-circuited by bringing in outside labor. The politicians are cross-pressured: in public they must do their song & dance for the voters about illegals and immigration, but in private they must assure their deep pocket donors who benefit from cheap labor that nothing will change.

It’s about reducing the cost of labor by increasing the supply of labor.

I don’t buy your argument. It costs far more to bring these people here, and have them accumulate to the first world – than the savings on their labor. Also, low wage people receive all sorts of entitlements. I don’t see how we will ever break even.

There are only so many Uber drivers / dish washers / bed pan aids are needed.

Kunstler really doesn’t say one way or the other whether he agrees that the African counties and Haiti are in fact shitholes or not. I find that omission interesting. It’s like he cannot admit to agreeing with Trump on anything, even if he really agrees. I mean if San Francisco is a shithole in Kuntsler’s opinion, he must really think Haiti is the 7th level of hell.

Comment from Paulo on Kuntsler’s website under this article:

“Websites like The Burning Platform, Zero Hedge, etc are racist beyond belief. The US is just a coarse exclusionary society, despite the meme of the melting pot and the Statue of Liberty inscription. Doesn’t anyone remember Polack jokes, no rent signs for the Irish, and those dirty Wops?”

I was looking at a YouTube video showing the oldest existing photographs of the United States. Most were of Philadelphia in the early 1840’s. One caught my eye because the title was “Militia Gather in Response to Nativist Riots.

The reality is the average American was NEVER in favor of large scale immigration. It was always pushed by those whose economic interests were served by more people. Large landowners, industrialists, Chamber of Commerce types but Joe Sixpack- never.

Wonder where Paulo hails from? I’m betting it’s not from a mythical place where there is no racism.

I bet he believes that affirmative action, racial quotas, BLM and SJWs are not racist. It would be nice if he would post here at TBP.

He did. Showed his true colors on It Turns Out Bannon Was Trump’s Brain, where Coulter went off the rails. Paulo got more down votes than up votes for his calling Trump an idiot, and offering poor reasons why 30+ Repubs & Dems are not running next term. His shithole is located in the lower area of his mush bucket skull, not where his undies are all bunched up. On his comments on Kuntsler website, a lame attempt to ‘expose’ the STM’s here to those in his camp. He probably doesn’t even realize JK articles get posted on TBP. Just one more ____, affected by Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s a mental illness.

Immigration should be highly discriminatory in the true sense of the word. Won’t ever happen but a repeal of the Hart-Celler Act and a return to the National Origins Formula and the Emergency Quota Act would be beneficial to the U.S.A., but then feewins, and White people have to be replaced.

“As a born-and-bred Boomer (ex-)liberal from Manhattan’s Upper East Side, I can assure you from direct experience that this group has, at best, ambiguous feelings about the lower orders of mankind”

Its not ‘ambiguous’ at all. They certainly aren’t spending time in these shitholes, or around the shithole people. They don’t like them any more than they like us. And yet, they insist we bring more of them in. There’s no mystery as to why, either. The people he describes are currently using them as a weapon against the people they despise most – white conservatives. Despising us is allowed to be done openly, which is why they don’t bother to hide it. They couldn’t win a national election if you had to be born here to vote. Or, even better, your parents did, too. They know that. RIght now, they are banding together with all of these immigrant groups to vanquish us and make us electorally impotent. My question for them is what happens after that? They won’t need white liberals and jews forever. They are already starting to elect their own politicians in some areas. These areas will continue to grow and expand. Most of these enemy groups don’t make a distinction between good whites and bad whites, and they won’t care that ‘we are on your side’. This is about taking over the country for themselves, which means this exercise, if successful, will ultimately be a suicidal undertaking by the left.

I was running a regional retailer’s warehouse over Loss Prevention and Safety the last 5 years of the 90’s when an influx of illegal Mexicans (of Mountain Indian decent) trickled in…then flooded in and eventually replaced most of the predominately black rank and file.

Management discovered that one MexIndian (who spoke almost no English) would do the same labor as three local American blacks for less pay!

They were tremendous workers. I mean human machines. Most solid family types sending everything home and living cramped.

Payroll went down and productivity skyrocketed!

Granted there were problems as they spoke no English and had come from a rural area of Mexico’s Mountains and had zero skills past grunt labor…but they were never late or missed a day or complained as opposed to the constant carping and no shows and problems from the locals.

Of course the company loved the low wage labor and put the squeeze on the locals (fired them whenever possible, deserved and legal) and replaced every three with one mountain Mexican.

There was a few sharp Mexican managers who I discovered were tied into the pipeline and got a cut/fee from the new employees.

However, one problem that I remember that we had to address with hands on training and then picture signs…was to show them how to use a flush toilet…as many of them would go into the bathrooms and just dump on the floor…having never used or seen a flush toilet before.

All that to say Trump’s use of the word SHITHOLE provided me with a flashback.

Democrats want votes and the Republican owner of this company wanted cheap labor.

A pox on both their houses!
