Had a Collie mix growing up, with long coat. In summer we would shave him sometimes to beat the heat. But in spring, the birds would occasionally annoy him to seize coat hairs for nesting materials.
One particularly obnoxious Blue Jay would dart down, grab some hairs and rip them off before flying away. Blaze got irritated beyond belief with that bird, but for a few weeks the bird was fast enough.
Then one day, I saw Blaze with a couple of long blue tailfeathers in his jaws, and never saw that bird again!

Funny story. Was out hunting with a buddy about two years ago. He dumped me off on the top of a hill and I was going to circle the top of it while he waited in the truck. I went for a walk – about a one hour loop. I finally get back to the truck and the driver side door is open and my buddy is gone. In between the front seats we kept a bag of trail mix and sitting on his driver seat is a chipmunk with peanut in his hands/paws.
I looked at the chipmunk and he froze and looked at me. For a moment there was a tense Mexican type stand-off. Then, knowing there’s no way out past me the little bastard scurries under the seat of the truck. We never found him. He rode all the way back to my buddies house in town – about two hours from where he hitched his ride, and was never seen again. My friend figures, after leaving the doors to the pickup open overnight, that he finally bailed somewhere in his backyard.
