When you have enough land, every day is naked gardening day.
Except for wool socks and rubber boots of course.

So Hardscrabble, seems time to break out the sun block for those”sensitive” nether regions!

Nice thought but we can’t do that in large areas of North Florida because of the “no seeums” (sand fleas, midges, biting gnats) which can make your calves bloody in minutes. I have to wear clothes and spray diluted Deet & alcohol on exposed skin this time of the year. When the rains come in June & July, the mosquitoes will take over.

rhs, I have found what appears to be an answer for those damned no see ums. Last year I bought an insect trap that uses propane to create c02 that draws both them and mosquitos in because it smells like our breath and then has a bait stick inside the nozzle that smells like our sweat which makes the females (who are the one who bite) get closer and then a vacuum created by an internal fan sucks them up into a mesh container where they die. I have already killed a few hundred of the gnats this spring and it worked well last year. The manufacturer claims it is waterproof and will cover up to an acre. I don’t know about the range and with the kind of rains we get here in Florida I leave it in the parking area under the house. But it has made a huge difference for us when we are out watering the plants. And it only kills the biting insects. Not beneficial ones. The one I use is called the patriot plus but there are different types and brands out there. It uses a tank of propane a month and is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Too cold yet where I’m from, but I do try to get “grounded” by gardening barefoot as much as possible.

You don’t have to go barefoot to be ‘grounded’. You can purchase ESD (Electrostatic Discharge Shoes), some even without steel or composite toes, though they are harder to find. I did so 2 years ago from online shoe stores, and I still use them. If you do, you might want to be careful to avoid a thunderstorm, as you really are ‘grounded,’ LOL. I’ve experienced repeated shocks from pushing a grocery store buggy while wearing them, especially outside in the parking lot, because the rubber wheels on the metal buggy were collecting static electricity. When it gets to about 10k to 20k volts, you get a shock. Not enough to hurt you, but annoying all the same.

Be careful with online shoe stores, though. One of the ones I bought from promised up to 1 year returnability, but in 30 days, their website was gone, and their toll free number was disconnected.

Didn’t matter, though, because the shoes fit fine, and I still wear them. I bought 1 pair of ‘tennis’ style shoes, no steel toe, one pair of black ‘dress’ shoes, no steel toe, and 1 pair of brown ‘dress’ shoes, with steel toe. I had wanted to replace the steel toed ones because they were heavy, and wasn’t able, but I still have them, and they fit. I wear them a lot less than the others due to the extra weight, but they fit well and look good.

Look,am glad there tis a naked farming and now it seems a naked fishing day but how about a naked appreciation of spring arrival day?!

You see first nice days dogs rolling on their back in the warm sun on the warm grass just enjoying the moment and, well……., letting it all hang out, which is great!

That said,if James was to also get in the spirit and do that folks would flip out/call the ambulance and cops and have me locked down for a three day mental health evaluation(actually, given me state of mental health imagine might be a wee bit longer!),this is so patently unfair!

So,in the interests of “inclusion” ect. how about just a general naked/enjoy spring arrival day?!

Gardening yes, naked no. In the high desert Southwest and pale enough to be fatally sunburnt. Almost did this in 1988, during a 104 degree heat wave in Cleveland. My first time at a water park, didn’t realize that sunblock had to be reapplied at least every hour if you’re in the water. Didn’t have a water proof watch, lost track of time. I remember getting in the hot car, feeling the blood pumping under my skin, don’t remember the next 24 hours after that. Was in pain for three weeks as the skin on my upper back shrunk and split open.
