Everytime I see the word Narcissist it remind me of one of my favorite books from back in the day. Narcissus and Goldmund, my favorite Hermann Hesse book. Worth a read if anyone is interested in checking it out, I never cared much for his other works but that book struck a chord in me.
The first quote is what is the scariest. Those that love power, authority and unhealthy narcissism seek positions of power the most. So the very people we don’t want in charge typically are the ones who seek prominent positions of power. This likely is a major reason why history is replete with people in power doing horrible things. It’s also why so few politicians are worthwhile, the systems keep a lot of moral people who want nothing to do with controlling others from seeking power. Modern day politics just seem like a cult of personality, from Trump to nearly every Democrat you see positioning themselves for runs at the white house. Politics often is just considered corrupt, but it goes further than that, when nearly all the people who love power and attempt to create cults to themselves are the only choices for office often times, we can’t help but have bad results.
I’ve long held the that anyone that wants to be a cop shouldn’t be allowed to be a cop. Combine a serious level of testosterone with a “superior” moral squint and you’ve got a problem waiting to happen.
Well there’s always Sweden, England and Germany, maybe we could recruit some of their police.
They know how to handle Muslims and such along with their own people.
