North Korea Threatens To Abandon Trump Summit, Furious Over Bolton Comments

I thought this was a done deal. Q and the Trumpeteers told me so. Did Trump get played?

Update: The White House says it’s hopeful that its planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will move forward, though it’s prepared for tough negotiations, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox News.

“He’ll be there, and he’ll be ready” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said of Trump in a Fox News interview Wednesday, adding that North Korea’s threat to back out of a denuclearization summit isn’t out of the ordinary.

“We’re ready to meet, and if it happens that’s great, but if doesn’t well see what happens,” she said. “If it doesn’t we’ll continue the maximum pressure campaign that has been ongoing”

The summit is set to take place June 12 in Singapore.

North Korea has threatened to pull out of next month’s peace summit with Washington if the US insists on the peninsula hurriedly giving up its nuclear weapons without offering immediate sanctions relief.

After blaming joint South Korean-US military exercises for the country’s decision yesterday to cancel a planned summit with the South and to suspend talks, the North revealed another source of anger: National Security Advisor John Bolton’s comments from his appearance Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, where he suggested that North Korea must “commit to denuclearization” to help it “become a normal nation.”

Kim Kye Gwan, a vice foreign minister and a top North Korea disarmament negotiator, said the regime was disappointed by the US’s articulation of its goals for the summit, according to a statement published Wednesday by the state-run Korean Central News Agency via Bloomberg. Kim expressed anger toward Bolton and other US officials, adding that the North rejects the “Libya model” where a state surrenders its weapons first then receives incentives like sanctions relief.

“If the U.S. is trying to drive us into a corner to force our unilateral nuclear abandonment, we will no longer be interested in such dialogue and cannot but reconsider our proceeding to the DPRK-U.S. summit,” Kim said. He added that Trump risked becoming a “more tragic and unsuccessful president than his predecessors” if he didn’t accept North Korea as a nuclear power.

Kim Kye Gwan said the North had already declared its willingness to denuclearize the peninsula – but that it must not be counted on to act first.

“If the Trump administration corners us and tries to force us to give up nuclear [weapons] unfairly,” it says, “we will not be interested in such talks anymore and cannot help but reconsider having the upcoming DPRK-U.S. summit.”

North Korea added that it wouldn’t be satisfied with “complete, verifiable and irreversible” denuclearization as well as the dismantling of nuclear and chemical arms, per Nikkei.

One North Korea expert said observers shouldn’t panic: The sharp rhetoric is more likely a negotiating tactic than a legitimate threat to scrap the talks.

Jin Chang-soo, president at the Sejong Institute, said North Korea’s remarks are more like jockeying ahead of the summit with the U.S., and not a serious threat to pull out of the meeting.

“North Korea and the U.S. agreed on the big picture, but they still have different ideas on a detailed process. Pyongyang is trying to boost its negotiation power with such actions,” Jin said.

In a statement, the South Korean government said North Korea’s decision to suspend talks was “regrettable.”

“It is regrettable that the North has suspended inter-Korean high-level talks with no consultation with us,” said Baik Tae-hyun, a spokesman for South Korea’s Unification Ministry. “The government has a firm will to carry out the Panmunjom Declaration faithfully, and urges the North side to come to the table quickly for the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula.”

China, meanwhile, called on both sides to “avoid further provocation.”

“The amelioration of the situation on the Korean Peninsula is hard won and should be cherished,” foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang told reporters in Beijing.

For now Kim’s gambit appears to be working: on Tuesday night, the US said that it would consider withholding B-52 bombers from its joint military drills with South Korea in a bid to appease the North. Should Pyongyang say it demands more, will Trump – visions of a Nobel Peace Prize dancing in his head – appease Kim again, and if so, how?

I’d say let’s put Kim and Bolton in a room together and lock the door. The one who comes out alive wins. If Bolton wins, we nuke N. Korea. If Kim wins we get all our troops off the peninsula.

Since Bolton is a neocon bullshitter who has never actually been in a war, my money is on Kim.

Given the tenuous situation, why were the annual military exercises not postponed or simply cancelled? Why did they give Kim an excuse? These exercises are more about shoveling money into the hands of South Korean business interests and keeping the prostitution industry flush with cash than they are essential to anyone’s security….especially in the face of possible real peace talks and a cessation of formal “war” footing. But of course there is always the hidden agenda of the globalists.

Just imagine how terrifying it must be for the deep state after 8000 years of playing the role of “Massa” on the global plantation to finally see their grip slipping from the whip.

The only people who got played are those who believed that Kim Jong-Un suddenly turned into an honest statesman and a believer in the right of humanity to free speech, free thought, and free enterprise the moment he crossed the concrete bar separating North and South at the DMZ to shake hands with Moon Jae-In.

However emotionally inspiring that summit may have been, Kim has never with his own mouth stated he would willingly deactivate his country’s nuclear weapons program. He meant a “nuclear-free Korean peninsula” which means the elimination of the role South Korea plays under the U.S. nuclear umbrella, and to this end, U.S. military bases and U.S. troops would all have to get out.

The divorcement (I use this term deliberately) of South Korea from the United States – the destruction of the alliance – has been a goal of the North since the Korean War ended (I know, it hasn’t ended officially, but since guns stopped firing) and that has never changed. The NorKs nearly achieved that in the 2000s thanks to 2 consecutive leftist ROK Presidents and to the infiltration of the South by NorK spies and their fifth column agitators – far-left political parties and groups who hate the U.S. and want the U.S. military out and who refuse to believe in human rights abuses in the North.

Ask yourself why summits with North Korea never happened when a conservative was in the Blue House (South Korea’s White House).

I am, incidentally, no fan of John Bolton. The guy is a sinister neocon whose thirst and appetite for war remind me of one John McCain and of a woman who laughed when speaking of the hellish death of the former leader of Libya. But to think that North Korea will voluntarily surrender its nuclear program and warheads (however primitive compared to the U.S. or Russian arsenals) is naive, foolish, and unrealistic. What Bolton wants is exactly what Bush 43’s administration wanted and North Korea not only refused but tested one nuke after another. The result? Bush 43 was humiliated by the North Koreans; to show he’d accomplished something, he removed that country from the State Department’s list of terrorism-sponsoring states while getting no tangible concession. North Korea returned to that list last fall thanks to Trump.

I know North Korea’s leaders are brutal, ruthless, and intolerant tyrants. They have a network of camps reminiscent of Stalin’s gulags. Ownership of a Bible gets one to those camps almost as quickly as writing online terroristic threats gets law enforcement to one’s door. And the average North Korean is impoverished, doesn’t eat much, and if he doesn’t live in Pyongyang (where the privileged, well-fed elite live), he’s likely inches shorter than the far better-fed South Koreans.

But to think that Kim Jong-Un will so easily allow his country to lose the one deterrent that Saddam Hussein and Moammar Qaddafi never had – that he ignored what Iran recently told him in public (“never negotiate with the U.S.”) – is the height of folly, the apex of historical ignorance, and the victory of irrational exuberance. In this, I don’t think it’s Trump who got played, his “Korean War to end” tweets notwithstanding. It’s anybody and everybody who thinks Kim can be trusted. (I don’t think the U.S. can be trusted given how the U.S. backed out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, but that’s another matter altogether).

I’m not questioning whether people were imprisoned, tortured and killed. I’m questioning who was behind it and for whose benefit was it done?

Again, if the Un family are puppets, how reliable would the news be?

Un smiling is not proof but as I said, “striking” in that it’s only been very recently that we’ve seen smiling images of Un. That seemed to start about the same time that Trump met with Un in the Forbidden City during his China trip. Coincidental yes but worth noting.

EDIT: Iran is another CIA blacksite playground.

Who was behind it: the North Korean government.

For whose benefit: the North Korean government.

Indentured, in 1956, the first and as far as I know only time there was actual opposition to the North Korean leadership. Not surprisingly, it coincided with the Khruschev speech during which mr. Nikita denounced Joseph Stalin and attempted to bring Soviet communism closer to Leninism. The speech was in February. 6 months later, a reformist movement within the North Korean government arose and it attempted to oust Kim Il-Sung. It failed, and Kim had those would-be reformers shot.

Since then, North Korea has evolved/devolved into a cult of personality state where dissent is not allowed and where anybody who dares openly question the legitimacy of the leadership is arrested and at the very least interrogated and beaten if not sent to camps.

So, for whose benefit? For the leadership. It tolerates no heterodoxy and those who were proven or suspected of dissent ended up eating rats in prison camps. There’s about 250k Koreans there now and many are there because they were caught with Bibles in their homes.

Un being a puppet? I never said he was.

As for smiling – look, in my few years on TBP, you like the overwhelming majority of posters I spoke to have never been rude to me, so I’ll reply respectfully.

Look at videos of Kim Jong-Un doing the typical communist “on-site” inspection. The man is ALWAYS grinning. His father did that too, albeit more often in his younger years. His grandfather did that aplenty. There are many photographs of Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il smiling, whether they’re meeting red-scarf-clad kids or clapping at performances or greeting foreign dignitaries.

Smiling means nothing.

Why is the number of South Koreans trying to escape to North Korea ZERO?

Nearly zero. There have been, believe it or not, South Koreans who willingly went to the North. They haven’t been back and won’t be.

North Koreans flee North Korea for various reasons:
– hunger/famine
– desperation stemming from poverty
– confirmation, through contraband of USBs containing South Korean news, comedy, and variety TV shows demonstrating South Koreans as well-fed, well-dressed, and well-off and South Korean cities as modern, clean, developed, beautiful, with almost everybody owning a car (in contrast with the poverty of the North)
– hearing testimonies that life abroad is better (think about this: North Korean defectors in northeastern Chinese cities are stunned by the neon lights and the abundance of restaurants and bars and cars and everyday amenities that we in the west take for granted, and yet those cities are not even China’s wealthiest, and in comparison to Seoul, they’re third world pockets of underdevelopment – yet they’re light years ahead of what North Koreans are used to)
– the knowledge that in South Korea, one can speak their mind and not get sent to a gulag

Hey, if I lived in North Korea and if I thought I had a chance to reach South Korea for a better life, I might just try it too.

It is indeed true that North Korea has historically punished the left-behind relatives of those who make it out. But if some did it nonetheless, being fully aware of what fate awaited their relatives and especially within the socio-cultural context of a Confucian ethic-based family system, where family ties mean adult children care for elderly parents and where filial piety are still preserved despite decades of communism (this culture is still quite prevalent in South Korea and strongly in evidence in Korean diaspora communities around the world), then the fact that some North Koreans left means that things there were truly that bad for them.

Besides, with bribes nowadays, arrested family members do get out. Not all. And not all family members get arrested – again, with some bribes, they can stave off the North Korean security agents who are dispatched to arrest the relatives of defectors.

Lol, EC ! Another one of those comments I’m not sure how to take-but it damn sure made me chuckle !

With two part time jobs to get 40 hrs. pay a week and 15 cr. hrs. per semester, it was a hectic schedule. I hit the jackpot on my night job buffin’ floors at the local hospital (one block off the main drag) when I hooked up with a nurse that sold weed !

At 19, finals week, I woke up and only had a little less than 15 min. to get my britches -n- boots on and get across town to take a test…….put a telephone pole clear to the fire wall on my ’70 Nova (the first of three ‘totaled’ rides over the next two years) right in front of my insurance agent’s office.

I got clipped on the left rear quarter panel, and pushed into the pole. A trustee from a local AA ranch south of town was on an errand trip to the hospital and began a left turn in front of me. He got the ticket for failing to yield-cops said there were no skid marks-little did they know I saw him start the turn, down shifted and tried to make the squeeze…..probably at nearly twice the posted limit. Thirty stitches to the top of my head, walked over to the ER at the hospital escorted by my insurance agent…….I got to re-schedule taking the test.

That poor old geezer’s (probably younger than I am now) statement read: “I never saw him till I hit him”

Not proud of it….just the way I was back then. I can still go off on the drop of a dime……what’s the saying? “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread?”
