Harvard Medical School ashamed of white male department heads

Via Campus Reform

  • Harvard Medical School has removed 31 portraits of its former department heads from a lecture hall because all of the individuals are men, and 30 of them are white.
  • Dr. Betsy Nabel, the hospital’s president, said she has been considering the move for several years, concerned that the lack of diversity might upset women and minorities who are training to become doctors.

The Harvard University Medical School has removed portraits of former department chairs from a lecture hall because the individuals pictured are not sufficiently diverse.

School officials confirmed Friday afternoon that the portraits of 31 medical school deans—which formerly hung in the school’s Bornstein Family Amphitheater—have been “dispersed” to various lobbies and conference rooms.

“It’s easy to remove people from the wall. It’s more difficult putting people of color in power.”

All 31 individuals depicted in the portraits are men, and while one is Chinese, the other 30 are also white.

Dr. Betsy Nabel, the hospital’s president, told The Boston Globe last week that the portraits do not reflect the diversity of students at the medical school, and suggested that so many portraits of white males may make medical students uncomfortable.

“I have watched the faces of individuals as they have come into Bornstein,’’ Nabel explained. “I have watched them look at the walls. I read on their faces ‘Interesting, but I am not represented here.’ That got me thinking maybe it’s time that we think about respecting our past in a different way.”

Titilayo Afolabi, a student at the Harvard Medical School, told the Globe that she wasn’t surprised by the lack of diversity in the portraits, but cautioned that removing them might not promote “actual change.”

“It’s easy to remove people from the wall. It’s more difficult putting people of color in power,” she observed.

Harvard Medical School spokeswoman Gina Vild said in an email that “Change is coming.”

“It is vitally important to know that the lack of diversity seen in art at HMS reflects the school’s past, not its present,” she added.

Harvard isn’t the only medical school concerned about what are increasingly called “visual microaggressions.” As Campus Reform previously reported, the University of Rochester Medical Center recently sought to hire a staffer to serve on an “aesthetics committee” to provide guidance on “accessibility, gender-neutral space, and visual microaggressions.”

I suppose this means we should look harder at the non white Harvard trained physicians in the future who are going to be treating us just to be sure they really got their training based on their medical acumen and not just because they were non whites.

Do you not already select potential doctors and dentists for you and your family based on race, sex, religion etc? I sure as shit do, and have done for many years.

Doctors: male strongly preferred. White is best, I hate to say it but jews rank highest. Blacks and Indians need not apply. Chinese males not far below white males. Other east Asians well below.

Dentists: whites again best, but females rank equally with males. Blacks and Indians out in the cold again. Vietnamese women rank high, Vietnamese men much lower. No Chinese. No other east Asians.

Nurses, if you have the option: white males only.

I’m a prejudiced asshole no doubt, but I don’t give a shit. I want competence when my or my family’s lives are on the line. That’s all that matters. Prescreening like this helps get it.

Socratic Dog, there isn’t anything wrong with you. You’re paying money of some sort to your Docs so it’s your business to be picky about who is going to work on you or your loved ones. If people call you a racist over your preferences of health providers then they’re rank hypocrites because they would do the same thing for themselves and family, except they would lie about it.

Maybe they should replace the hospital’s president, Dr. Betsy Nabel with someone that is even more diverse than she is – like Dr. Seuss.

They could hang pictures of all of the Dr. Seuss characters in the lecture hall so the snowflakes wouldn’t feel the need to go running to their safe rooms with the stuffed animals and coloring books when ‘triggered’ by something offensive – like someone with an opinion that’s different than theirs.

Future physicians of America. What a thought…

Except the leftist whackos already determined that Dr Seuss is racist.

Oh no, they wouldn’t do that now because they’re calling Dr. Seuss a racist over his early cartoons.
I don’t care because they are really funny![imgcomment image[/img]

What about famed doctor Cliff Huxtable? Put him on the wall. (Don’t mind the raping.). Also, there are several black doctors on Shonda Rhimes’ TV shows. Put them up.

Here’s two more delightful examples:

François “Papa Doc” Duvalier – President of Haiti 1957-1971

And his equally impressive son;

Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier – President of Haiti 1971-1986

How about a picture of Dr. Frankenstein?

They should like him even if he was white. He actually built a ‘diverse’ person.

And he’s just as fictional as their ‘diversity is strength’ theories…

Perhaps Dr. Betsy Nabel should consider that those pictures might inspire women and minorities who are training to become doctors to excel in their studies and show that minorities can be excellent doctors as well.

Perhaps Betsy should ponder her fate when white women as well as men become part of the problem.

Yo
This is something that puzzles me. Do Jews, specifically America Jews, consider themselves to be a color other than white? I’d like to know how many of those portraits were identified by Jewish surnames. I bet there were a few.

Screw Harvard and the hose they rode in on……

Again Betsy…how does this make Harvard and their graduates better?

Is it true that nearly 70% of Harvard grad students are Jewish despite only being 3% of the top performing students? Interestingly the recent lawsuit against Harvard by the Asian students only points out the discrimination by “whites” but if you’re a white Christian guy hoping to get into Harvard… you can forget it.

Yes he was born to Jewish parents and his other brethren cast him to his death by trading him for a thief.
His own parents and brothers wouldn’t even speak up for him when he was excommunicated from the Synagogue in Nazareth, the beginning of his ministry. Go look it up!

Actually…

Heysus was born of Hebrew parents in the Roman Provence of Judea. While Heysus was of the house of David descended from Judah, his advocacy was not to one tribe of Hebrew but to all Hebrews. Before his death, he extended it to non Hebrews as well. This is the basis of modern Christianity. That redemption is available to all men no matter their origin. Sometimes, the most righteous of men can be found in those whom are not Hebrew but place their faith in God’s benevolence.

This the joos seem to have forgotten. Sad really. They place their faith in men and not the god of Abraham and Moses.

big, if true. Not sure what the difference between “White, non-Hispanic” and “White, non-Jewish” is, but even combined is still a small number.
