31% Think U.S. Civil War Likely Soon

Via Rasmussen

Image result for civil war

Most voters fear that political violence is coming from opponents of the president’s policies, just as they did in the second year of Barack Obama’s presidency, and nearly one-in-three think a civil war is next.

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Likely U.S. Voters say it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years, with 11% who say it’s Very Likely. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% consider a second civil war unlikely, but that includes only 29% who say it’s Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Democrats (37%) are more fearful than Republicans (32%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (26%) that a second civil war is at hand.

But 59% of all voters are concerned that those opposed to President Trump’s policies will resort to violence, with 33% who are Very Concerned. This compares to 53% and 28% respectively in the spring of Obama’s second year in office. Thirty-seven percent (37%) don’t share that concern, including 16% who are Not At All Concerned.

Fifty-three percent (53%) are concerned that those critical of the media’s coverage of Trump will resort to violence, with 24% who are Very Concerned. Forty-two percent (42%) are not concerned about violence from media opponents, including 17% who are Not At All Concerned.

(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on June 21 and 24, 2018 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Just before Trump’s inauguration, half (50%) of voters felt America was a more divided nation after the eight years of the Obama presidency. Since Trump’s election, a majority (55%) of voters believes America is more divided.

Most voters across the partisan spectrum are concerned about political violence from those opposed to Trump’s policies, although Republicans are the most likely to be Very Concerned. The level of concern is about the same among Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters when it comes to the threat of violence from those critical of the media’s coverage of Trump.

Women and those under 40 are more worried about a possible civil war than men and older voters are.

Forty-four percent (44%) of blacks think a second civil war is likely in the next five years, a view shared by 28% of whites and 36% of other minority voters. Whites are also less concerned about political violence than the others are.

Fifty-one percent (51%) of voters who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing are Very Concerned that opponents of the president’s polices will resort to violence, but just 23% of those who Strongly Disapprove of the job he is doing agree. The two groups are in general agreement and see much less of a threat from those critical of the media coverage of the president.

Rasmussen Reports will release new data tomorrow on the level of anger voters feel toward the current policies of the federal government and the media.

Forty-two percent (42%) of all voters say the country is headed in the right direction. This figure ran in the mid- to upper 20s for most weeks during the last year of Obama’s presidency.

Just 40% think America would be better off today if Hillary Clinton had been elected president in 2016.

Fifty-one percent (51%) blame Trump for his bad relationship with the media, but only 40% think it is possible for the president to do anything the media will approve of. Voters are also more distrustful of the political news they are getting than they have been in years.

Fifty-one percent (51%) of voters also agree with the Democratic gubernatorial candidate from Wisconsin who said last week that his party is “pickled in identity politics and victimology.”

In a survey three years ago, the North and South still didn’t see eye-to-eye on the cause of the U.S. Civil War 150 years after it ended, but one-out-of-three Americans didn’t even know when that cataclysmic conflict took place.

Curious, of all the civil wars and revolutions during the last century how many have been right wing uprisings and how many leftist uprisings?

And which have been most successful?

As for an all out civil war here, not minor engagements, one that actually destroys and drastically alters the government by one side of the conflict defeating the other, I think it is more likely to occur in a 10 tear time frame than a 5 year one.

IMO, YMMV.

We’ve been invaded by 40 million leftists over the past 40 years. That is one million leftists a year, not even counting the frickin illegals. And 30% of the native borns want more and more of this, and to force working people to pay their $2 billion a week in welfare. How is this not civil war?

Since the SJW’s and the Race Baiting Minorities have already created violent confrontations in political venues around the country a massive civil war could erupt at any place or time . To assume it could not is nothing less than magical thinking nonsense . What will be the catalyst that will enter the mix is yet unknown . I believe it will be some seemingly inconsequential situation or event that will snowball into an avalanche . The butterfly effect if you will , consider the intellect of many and the obvious lack of true constitutional equality spread accross American society today .
President Trump has struck a nerve with average Americans and knows how to work the crowd and the room gladhanding his way thru the swamp as it is . However he is stymied by the left and the disastrous economic condition our nation is in . It took 40 to 50 years to put America in this “CIRCLE THE DRAIN” condition with 100 MILLON working people crushed on the sidelines literally left behind by the Wall Street to K-Street to Capitol Street circle jerk and so far nothing of substance has been done to remedy this drastic situation !

I have a feeling that the imminent retirement of Supreme Court judge Kennedy is going to be a direct link in the chain of events that leads to the coming confrontation. Probably not the trigger, but it’s going to be one more straw on the back. The left is already beating their own foreheads and working themselves up into a frenzy over it.

This was my immediate thought on hearing about the retirement.

Once the Borg realize that the courts are where the action is (ironically a reality they largely created) they will start using the IIIper phrase about ballot box, jury box, cartridge box…

The children had the legislative branch taken away, then the executive, now the judicial. In their diseased and cankered brains the only recourse left now for their poor, suppressed selves is to take up arms. As Remus says, stay away from crowds…

America could do with fewer pollsters and more producers. They’re just another parasite class of worthless do-nothing chattering heads.

Not quite do-nothings, and definitely not worthless. Their function is to maintain and promote the official narrative, to guide the sheeple down the chutes where they are supposed to go. None of this is accidental or inadvertent.

If 40% think Harpy would be a better POTUS, this Civil War is probably already Overdue. It is the only way that Communism and Islam get stopped when they get rolling; Conservatives will write the history of why people were forced into fighting for our God and country. I shudder to think of what the country would become if Conservatives lost and the Communist or Muslims took over, and they wrote that history.

My guess is that the money printers want to crash the economy just when it will hurt Trump’s reelection prospects the most. It would be a shame if dumbass, militant libs screw up their timing.

Can’t deduce much from what Americans think …. except most of us are dumber than an amoeba

36% of Americans believe the earth is only 6,000 – 10,000 years old.

84% of Millennials believe the most true place to get news is from Facebook.

64% of Americans don’t know America won independence from England. The two most popular alternatives are France and China. China??

71% of Americans could NOT find the Pacific Ocean on a map

Excellent comment Stucky, and so true. Polls are worthless but these constant articles urging war are propagated by the people who profit from war.

Hope you’re well Bea. Being in the hills of Kentucky might just be one of the safest places in ‘Murica if there’s a second CW. I might have to consider it as a possible Mamma Stucky post-mortum destination.

And this poll was taken BEFORE the labor union dues decision and the announcement of Kennedy’s retirement. I bet the numbers went way up.

The United States as reconstituted (after the War of Secession) is already gone. What we are doing now is casting about for the next durable form and style of governance to put up with. This struggle may last for another 50 years, and is occurring in all the rest of the West as well.

Interesting times.

Speaking of stupid people, how do you like the little dog and pony show graphics the geniuses at the DA’s office came up with? My ten year old would be ashamed of a project that looked that shoddy. Man, what a pathetic display.

Google the guy-David Surman- then look at images. There’s a couple of alleged posters with swastikas (natch) he had hung up in his house that look like a mildly retarded 12 year old drew, full of misspellings, magic marker doodles, etc. None as poorly executed as the DA’s construction paper and Elmer’s glue poster, but close. That guy no more built a bomb than he did a cyclotron.

Pathetic, but hey, gotta keep the masses on edge.
