An armed bystander licensed to carry a firearm shot a gunman who opened fire at a back-to-school event at a Titusville park, reports local ABC affiliate WFTV9.
The shooting occurred at Isaac Campbell Park on South Street shortly after 5:20 p.m. when the shooter, whom police have not identified, returned to the park after a fistfight and began firing.

The bystander who shot the gunman has been fully cooperative with the investigation, according to local police. “We are extremely grateful that nobody else was injured in this incident,” said Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson. “This suspect opened fire at a crowded public park, this could have been so much worse.”

A flyer posted on Facebook and Instagram said a back to school event called “Peace in the City” was going on at the park when the shooting happened. –WFTV9
While we expect 2nd Amendment advocates will point to this incident as a “good guy with a gun” taking down a “bad guy with a gun,” gun control activists are likely to pretend it never happened – or that local police would have intervened.
After all, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away!

It was nice of the Tampa police to not shoot the armed bystander. Guess Florida may be safer than Colorado?
I used to live about 25 minutes away from where that happened. The sheriff there is one of the big constitutional types, and is very big on gun rights. He got a lot of flak a while back for putting out a video where he encouraged all citizens to get training and carry a gun at all times, because everyone can be a first responder, and he said armed citizens will be in a position to intervene far quicker than cops, since they always take at least a few minutes to get there. Still not a big fan of cops, but he’s a lot better than most, and given his stance on armed citizens, I’d be pretty surprised if one of his guys shot someone like that.
IMO, it’s a good thing he put out that video and someone paid attention to it.
The armed bystander did exactly the right thing. Acquire target. Empty the mag. Reload. The only mistake was in his accuracy and perhaps his choice of caliber.

This was in Titusville, not Tampa. Titusville is across the river from Kennedy Space Center. South Street is the center of the black part of town. No surprise there.
