When designing questions of the fill in the blank nature, you need to either “frame” the blank not just to “lead” the blank. What you did was “lead” the blank with White People (Blank) which makes most people want to come up with a one word response that is witty or crass. Both, for many.
So, to “frame” the response, perhaps we could Frame the FITB thingy a bit by saying something like
