He died at age 94 at on Nov. 30. His wife of more than 70 years, Barbara, died at the age of 92 earlier this year.
Bush was the last American president to serve in World War II, a fight that helped shape his life and the lives of many in his generation. He went on to build a sterling resume — businessman, member of Congress, envoy to the United Nations and China, head of the Central Intelligence Agency — before becoming Republican Ronald Reagan’s vice president in 1980 and then succeeding him in the White House in 1988.
He lost his bid for re-election to Democrat Bill Clinton in 1992, after a campaign in which he was hampered by two years of disappointing economic performance and an insurrection among his own party’s conservatives over a decision to raise taxes. The loss was a bitter personal disappointment, but one he handled with the kind of grace that allowed him to become friends with Clinton in later life.

Hard to believe the gushing accolades by the msm. Bush was arguably one of the most evil men of the latter 2oth century. Were it Carter I could understand. He was ineffectual but well intentioned. The only regret I have over the death of this arch criminal is that he not only got away with all his egregious crimes, very likely including a central role in the JFK assassination, he was richly rewarded for them. I never could understand or forgive Bush for calling off military operations against Saddam after 100 hours and then not even requiring Saddam to sign the ceasefire agreement. Putting a time limit on military operations had to have been the stupidest act a Commander in Chief ever committed.
Not saying we had to occupy Iraq but we could have at least neutered his army or, better yet, ordered it to get rid of Saddam if they wanted a ceasefire.

Being politically active in the GOP in ’92, it sure looked and felt like he forfeited rather than lost the election. Dude put in even less effort than Dole would do a few years later. It was also profound how the media manipulated the headlines leading up to the election. After all, the press had to adulate the guy for his meddling in the middle east on behalf of Israel. The swiftness of the turn heading into the election was staggering, especially on taxes and the economy. Backroom party jockeying and yellow press have been going on for hundreds, if not thousands, of years but seeing the theater directly was quite an awakening.
