The culture is whatever you want it to be. The mothers there appear to be dykes. However, those are their kids and they have the right to teach them whatever. The narrator makes it sound as if these are kids from normal, typical homes. It’s nice to live in a tv fantasy where everything is hunky-dory but the reality is that we still have the same diverse cultures as Russia had under its Soviet umbrella. You see how that worked out; they kicked those fuckers out and started their own little white country.
