Probably showing my age but, Bob Dylan. He wrote some outstanding songs. Most of which other other groups did a better job of singing. There were a fair number that he did an outstanding job of singing himself, this was one of them in my opinion.

Made me smile when I saw the post…have thought of having the Dylan version played at my funeral. One of my all-time favorites.

I love Clapton, but to me it’s all about the original lyrics. Who was that last guy???

Have never put the specific plans for that event in notarized writing…yet. But I told my wife.

Shoot, the way the country is flying around the corner of 4th & SHTF I may have to get a CD player with some spare batteries safely stored in a plastic bag and likewise with a CD of the DYLAN version stashed away with my “special” prep…to ensure when I finally do put my guns in the ground…I can be assured:

“It don’t mean noth’in.”

Good friend of mine passed way too early due to an inattentive/drunk/otherwise impaired driver driving on a suspended license while working for a law firm(!) had a message on his answering machine (remember those?) that went something like: (Dylan playing first, for 10-15 seconds), then “We’re not answering the phone right now because you might be trying to sell us something we don’t want or need, but if you want to leave a message……………” (Dylan plays for another 10-15 seconds) then you could leave your message.
His widow played Dylan at his funeral. I still tear up thinking about my friend Larry every time I hear Dylan.

Paul,

I grew up with a guy and worked with him in sales in my early 20’s for a brief time. He settled in the town we were raised in – in NJ. I took off and never came back except for brief visits. Good guy, I liked him, witty easy and fun to be around.

He married, bought a house close to his parents and had two kids, his Father brought him into his insurance business and I even bought a life insurance policy off him after I married.

Years past then tragedy struck and his little daughter was killed by a drunk driver close to their house on a quiet street. He was devastated and was never the same.

A few years later, he was walking his dog and was killed close to the same spot his daughter was killed at by another drunk driver. When I heard about it I was speechless. His poor wife.

NEVER, EVER TURN YOUR BACK ON TRAFFIC, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.

I have a picture of him from 1972 at a party laughing hysterically, it’s hard to look at.

Bob Dylan hands down…watch the last few minutes of Lethal Weapon 2 when Riggs has been shot and Murtaugh thinks Riggs is dying…beautiful placement of the song for dramatic effect.

I watched the credits and was surprised to find it was a Bob Dylan song. When I got back home, I found the song was already part of my father’s Dylan album collection. Good times 🙂

Slow Hand- hands down! I’d rather run into DWS on a nudist beach over listening to G & R.

a good reason not to support tulsi gabbard,it’s not easy watching a hottie age rapidly–

First time I remember hearing the song, it was on a Clapton Greatest Hits cassette I got from Columbia House back in 1986 … (Columbia House … F*cking blast from the PAST BAYBEE) … Loved the Clapton version.

… but in my view, the Dylan version is better … his tired voice and approach to the song make you feel like, you, yourself … are Knockin on Heaven’s Door

Though I’ve always liked Dylan’s version, I like Guns N Roses’ version best.
You may think I’m weird but I’ve never like Eric Clapton’s stuff much after he left Cream, when I adored him.

Tho’ I have been a fan of Dylan’s since 11 grade German class in 1965 when I did a report on him auf Deutsch, Clapton all the way. GnR never saw much in them.
