The phrase “Christians aren’t perfect, but they are forgiven” is, I believe, the biggest cop-out phrase ever conceived. Using Jesus’ death and resurrection as the “cleanser” that washes away all the evil one lets loose on the world, has been the convenient tool of far too many horrific people in history.

That’s not how it works. Read the Bible … Christians are to believe in the risen Jesus Christ … and repent of their ways. Open THE Book for once in your life.

FWIW part II

The sins forgiven are not related to the world, but in our relationship to God. Any sin I commit against you, or the world in general, remains a sin, unless you are willing to forgive my sin.
The sins that are forgiven by Jesus death on the cross are sins that were committed against God and because of our sin, separated man from God.
The only way to restore our connection to God is by the forgiveness Jesus offered to man by His shedding of His blood on the cross.
If I sin against you and even if I confess my sin to the Lord and receive forgiveness, I must also go to you to ask for forgiveness, because the sin against you still remains.

For anyone who believes the Bible I would like to know why God would bother to send his Son for the benefit of mankind. First, he creates Adam and Eve who disobey him, so he punishes everybody. Reminds me of one of my teachers back in grade school: If the child who did that doesn’t come forward I punishing all of you.
Then, nothing improves so he decides that he has to kill everybody except Noah and his family. Things don’t get any better so he sends his son to be tortured and killed for our sins. And things haven’t improved since then as far as morality goes.
If God is all knowing why did He waste His time with these three steps? And why let your son be tortured and killed for humanity?

Because even though man totally screwed up, God loved man even more and provided a way for man to become perfect before God, by sacrificing His Son Jesus, who was perfect, to bear our sins and by taking our punishment, allowed all mankind who receive salvation from Jesus Christ. There is no deeper expression of love than this act of God to restore mankind to Himself.

Well, you asked the question.

Would you allow your son or daughter to die for mankind if you knew mankind wasn’t going to change? What’s the point? I’m sorry but the whole story doesn’t make any sense.
Almost reminds me of the logic of sending your kid to die in Vietnam to fight communism. The commies win and the same politicians who supported the war then decide it’s a good idea to send our jobs to communist countries. Why send the young men to die in the first place?

Isaiah 55:8 KJB… “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.”

Your questions can’t be summed up in a blog post. If you really want some answers, look me up.

We don’t deserve the grace God shows us, but He has His reasons for doing what He does.

I enjoy discussing religion and actually read the bible. If He has reasons for what He does then it just seems He has a strange thought process. For what I see of mankind I don’t see any improvements after the death of Jesus. In fact, if I were God I’d be pretty angry seeing the commemoration of the death and resurrection of my son replaced be an Easter Bunny bringing candy and his birthday celebrated with materialistic excess and a fat guy in a red suit.
Do you believe that there has been a change in mankind since the story of the death of Jesus?

“Do you believe that there has been a change in mankind since the story of the death of Jesus?”

I do.

2 Timothy 3:13 KJB… “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”

What you expected?

Evil men shall wax worse and worse? One example among many: George “Poppy” Bush orders the invasion of Panama to arrest his former CIA employee, Manuel Noriega. It’s estimated 2 to 3,000 innocent civilians are killed. Instead of waxing worse and worse he dies at a ripe old age and is eulogized in a Christian funeral service as a great man. The poor people he killed in Panama didn’t get that chance.
We can agree to disagree but through my readings of history I see no changes in mankind.

“We can agree to disagree but through my readings of history I see no changes in mankind.”

I’m not sure we are in disagreement. You don’t see things getting worse when men like “poppy” are esteemed as “great”…? What makes you think the funeral service was “Christian”? Because it took place in a “church”?

Your expectations of what “should have been” accomplished by the cross are not in alignment with what happened at the cross. The cross did not remove the presence of sin from the physical world (not one bit), nor was this the intent of it. The crucifixion was the most sinful act ever committed by man upon the world. The cross removed the “penalty of sin” from any man who would accept the cross as the freely offered gift which it is (Romans 3-5 KJB). Christ is not only the Just One, but the Justifier as well; as only God Himself can be.

2 Cor 5:21… “For he hath made him to BE SIN for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Sin will not be physically removed (as it was before Adam ate of the forbidden fruit) until after God comes back in judgement and war and destroys sin physically. Currently, he is offering sinful mankind grace and peace, via Paul. For how much longer I can’t say.

And most spit in His face at the offer… It’s only going to get worse and worse until God has finally had enough of us. Poppy was a minor leaguer as far as evil players go; but it was a hell of a show the powers that be put on for him in front of us wasn’t it! (And that’s the point. It’s a show. A freak show.) The cross does not alter the physical reality of sin in the world, it places the saved man beyond sins penalty as Christ already suffered the penalty of sin for us. The wages of sin is death. We as sinners deserve to die. Christ died for us to take away the just penalty for those who accept the gift of Gods Son. That knowledge then works inside the saved man and rather dramatically alters his perspectives of and attitudes toward the world. In that way the world might be physically altered somewhat…

Don’t expect physical miracles however as God is not in that business today (satan is). Physical miracles were for the Jews and worked according to prophesy so they could identify their Messiah. And, with all the miracles recorded, they still didn’t believe!

1 Cor 1:22… “For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:”

Believers today on the other hand are to walk by faith.

2 Cor 5:7… “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”

You write… “In fact, if I were God I’d be pretty angry seeing the commemoration of the death and resurrection of my son replaced be an Easter Bunny bringing candy and his birthday celebrated with materialistic excess and a fat guy in a red suit.

See… you do get it! The fact that He does not come back ASAP and ruin this place as ugly as it is is the very testimony of His grace! He should, yet He waits… perhaps for just one more person to be saved? How about you friend?

I commend your study of the word and appreciate your openness to listen to how others understand the Bible
To me, as I understand the word of God, it is Gods explanation of who man was, is and will become. Although Gods description was written in human terms, otherwise how could we understand it? So we have the Father and the Son who created man (or evolved man to be in the image of God, another discussion but used here to show other viewpoints), mans fall from God through sin and Gods plan of redeeming man through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.

But to limit God the Father to human terms is to miss the point of who God is. This is what GCP was pointing out, although God uses human terms to describe mans relationship to God, God is in His own words reveals Himself as the eternal “I AM THAT I AM.”

To allow this into our study of the Bible means God demonstrates His love to us in human terms, but also reveals we are beyond understanding of who God is, because it is beyond our comprehension; much in the same way a pot cannot comprehend the potter who created it.

This is why faith must be a part of our Bible study, for it allows us to accept Gods revelation of mans purpose on the earth, by accepting His story of our purpose in human terms, but acknowledging Gods eternal ever existing position as the Creator of the universe. By embracing both we can witness Gods love for us and by faith, accept Him as “I AM,” who created us, loves us and receives us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Your comment shows that the church has done a very poor job of explaining why God does what He does. But, what you have written, even though it is what much of the so called church says, is not what the Bible says.

What happened to Adam and Eve after they ate the fruit was not punishment. What happened to the rest of mankind was not either. Man is under death’s power for the same reason we get run over by a car when walking around on a busy freeway. It is not a punishment, and God never said it was. It is the result that came from them now having the knowledge of good and evil. With this new knowledge it was time to move forward in God’s plan that He made from before He created the worlds.

God saved mankind from annihilation when He flooded the earth. The fallen angels had infected almost all of human DNA with their DNA. Only Noah and his family were fully human. So God flooded the earth and saved Noah to insure mankind’s survival. Not to punish mankind for being naughty.

The scripture is full of examples of God’s deliverance for mankind. And that’s what Jesus’ death was too. It was God’s deliverance from death to life by God Himself joining with us under death’s power. So that by the resurrection He could break death’s power over all who will trust in Him.

The only question is, do you want to be delivered from death’s power too? Because if you do there is only one way to do that. Through the only one who made that way by His one and only resurrection. Trust in Jesus and His resurrection today and have the abundant life that He came to give you.
