Re the guns, it is not as bad as you think. As noted in recent posts, the US is beginning to require registration of all guns, and that will accelerate. Oz does not have the gun history of the US.
Australia is, btw, far, far, far safer than the US. What is it, 30,000 a year die by gun in the US? The US murder rate is around 6 times higher than is that of Australia. Those US murders happen jn pockets, but nonetheless, Oz is far safer just about anywhere you are relative to anywhere in the US.
I am a supporter of US gun rights. By the US has a unique history, and expecting other nations to mirror US laws and culture is illogical.
Oz and the US have similar tax burdens, but Oz offers universal medical, subsidized pharmaceuticals, universal retirement and unemployment benefits, heavily subsidized university education, and a far lower national govt deficit. Personal debt, mostly real estate, is extreme in Oz.
And, oh yeah, the median wealth of Oz citizens is about 4 times higher than that of US citizens. Damn those liberal Aussies!
And oh, yeah, Oz is 89% white.
Seriously, there are reasons I live here. Oz is not some liberal shithole like Chicago, Detroit, or Phillie. It is a liberal paradise compared to much of the world, and has much going for it. At least for now.

The gdp of australia is equivalent to new york state, which has less people (most of whom are poopskins). not very impressive. of those 30k gun deaths, only ~10% are non-gang related, non-suicide. if you are white in america, and stay away from poopskins or just stay in white areas, the crime rate is equivalent to something like switzerland, and lower than australia.
