Our Former Right to Travel – And How to Reclaim It

Guest Post by Eric Peters

Control mobility – free movement – and you have controlled the population. Their other rights are automatically cheapened into functional irrelevance if the right to come and go without permission and free from interference is denied.

And so it has been.

It took a couple of generations, but most Americans seem to implicitly accept the idea that travel  – even on foot – is a conditional privilege conferred (and legitimately regulated) by “the government.” Which of course is just an evasive euphemism for the busybodies and control freaks who have somehow acquired a legal monopoly on the use of force – and who use its threat (and actuality) to enforce their busybody/control freak ideas.

One of these ideas is that movement beyond the threshold of your driveway – or the door to your apartment – is a kind of implicit permission-seeking from these control freaks and busybodies – who by dint of getting us to accept that we need their permission to move beyond the threshold of our driveways and doors explicitly assert their ownership of everything beyond the threshold of our driveways and door.

Including, of course, us.

We are their livestock – animals to be ear-tagged and corralled, our movements strictly supervised. Not free men.

Our rights a laughingstock . . .

Which of course, they are. Can you think of any which remain inviolate? Which have not also transitioned – somehow – into conditional privileges? We are now obliged to get a permission slip to do almost everything we used to be free to just do – including travel.

We need permission to practice our trade, to carry the means of self-defense, to transact business – even to speak our minds.  All of them restricted by dint of requiring the by-your-leave of the busybodies and control freaks who constitute “the government.”

We didn’t used to have to beg permission to exercise what were once the acknowledged rights of free men.

It used to be accepted in principle – and within living memory – that every free citizen had a right to go about his business freely… which necessarily included the right to travel freely.

That is to say, without being arbitrarily molested by government goons – i.e., having your travel arbitrarily interrupted by a government goon who forces you to produce “papers,” looks you over, interrogates you about where you have been and where you are going, etc.

Before the 1980s, Americans weren’t subjected to such degradation – to such tyranny, which can be defined as the exercise of arbitrary power.

People who hadn’t violated any laws, who were merely going about their business, enjoyed a comforting feeling of being secure in their persons and effects, as the old-timey language styled it.

They knew the were free to travel.

One could travel across the entire country and – provided no laws were broken – never have to deal with a government goon. Because of this fact, there weren’t any government goons. There were peace officers; sometimes called cops or police. They concerned themselves with criminals, who were few in number and self-identified by committing crimes.

They did not treat every citizen as a presumptive criminal.

But then the law changed.

Free travel was redefined into a conditional privilege, revocable at whim.

America became very much like East Germany in that Americans were no longer free to travel. Now, the courts ruled, Americans could be subjected to random stops by arbitrary authority – just because they happened to be there – and required by law to produce their “papers,” suffer their vehicle and its interior to be at least visually inspected by a government goon looking for an excuse to inspect it more thoroughly, have intrusive questions asked by the government goon – and so on.

This was deemed “reasonable” by the courts – which made the argument that the “compelling interests” of the busybodies and control freaks who constitute “the government” trumped the people’s rights.

And so a right became a conditional privilege – via a stroke of judicial fiat. Arbitrary power asserting the legitimacy of the exercise of arbitrary power.

The 190 proof essence of tyranny.

Americans were at a stroke placed in exactly the same position – in principle – as a prison inmate. Neither are free to travel. Both must have permission to travel, a priori – and produce evidence of their having obtained this permission upon demand.

How is a citizen forced to stop at a checkpoint materially different than a prisoner forced to stop at a gate, show his ID tag to the guards, pass muster and so on before the gate clanks open an he is allowed to proceed?

If there is a difference, it’s one without much distinction.

Which is why it is so important to recover the right to freely travel.

This will require resurrecting a concept much trampled upon:

Presumptive innocence of wrongdoing.

The mere fact that one is traveling – whether by car, by foot or otherwise – ought not, as such, to be sufficient legal cause to require that the person traveling demonstrate to the satisfaction of a government busybody that he hasn’t committed an illegal act.

Certainly absent any prior reason to suspect him of such.

A person merely walking down the street – even if it’s the middle of the night –  should not have to produce “papers” on demand – or answer questions. He ought to be free to travel.

Period.

And the same for people in cars or on bicycles, etc.

So long as no harm has been caused – and in the absence of specific reason to suspect a crime has been committed – no one should be required to submit to arbitrary demands for his “papers,” or endure questioning or any other interference with his right to go about his business, freely. Because to require him to submit to such arbitrary authority is the difference between a free man – and two-legged cattle.

That used to be understood.

It needs to be remembered.

Flights to Paris are currently cheaper, my friend. Once there, with a EU passport you can pick & choose where to go next.

Well, if you can get yourself classified as a refugee or a MUSLIM on the way back in, you are entitled to HUD housing, an EBT card and all the special privileges the taxpayers can provide along with all the food the white trash farmers and producers in flyover country can provide the sleezebags.

It. Has. To. Stop.

Do you KNOW what those folks are ACTUALLY entitled to if they get themselves to someone who knows how to file the correct paperwork?

I do. Oh. My. God.

I’m sure a lot of you will disagree with this but…legally we have the right to free travel in this country. As such we don’t have to have a license plates or a drivers license. All the signs etc. are for REGULATED COMMERCE. That is people engaged in commerce such as, primarily, truckers. That’s why all the stop signs and speed limits popped up. TO REGULATE COMMERCE, NOT PEOPLE TRAVELING FREELY. We assume we have to get state permission (a drivers license) when in fact we do not unless engaged in travel that we are paid to do/perform. There are a few who have proved this in court -repeatedly. Once you get a license you have surrendered to the state your right to free travel. Pretty wild, eh!

^^^Exactly^^^, All of the lawless pussies out there won’t stand up, arrest the tyrants, prosecute them, and give them the death penalty (all of them, every criminal claiming to be a judge, prosecutor, cop and all other BAR conspirators, and every other busybody ninny who will not face those they accuse with equal liability) for levying war on us and our US LAW! Death penalty for all of them! End them! It is the proper law abiding remedy to their on-going criminal tyranny! How many hangings until the rest of the criminal perpetraitors permanently stop their criminality and freedom returns? I believe the answer is exactly 1 criminal ‘judge’, 1 criminal ‘prosecutor’, 1 criminal ‘cop’, 1 criminal anonymous ninny and 1 criminal bar conspiring ‘defense attorney’ -> Issue and prosecute driving without a license = jury determines it is levying war on the US ->Death penalty for you. If 1 each doesn’t repeat process until the rest leave or they are all dead.

Let’s make the revolution about the smallest issue possible with the largest consequence for them to move line of freedom the farthest forward. If you are on a grand jury investigate and issue treason presentments or find true bill indictments for victims who bring valid cause of treason. If you are a victim seek unobstructed justice via direct access to the Grand Jury to seek indictments. People properly defending our rights and law via our Grand Juries and juries can do it. We don’t need to vote we only need to uphold the law.

From what I gleaned from the article we reclaim our travel right by standing up to the man. Don’t provide ID, drivers license, etc. and don’t comply when asked. Guess Eric wants us jailed or killed which makes it difficult to travel.

I’ll be building in Mexico soon. The only thing about Mexico that ever concerned me was their Napoleonic justice system: guilty until proven innocent. It’s more like whoever they catch is guilty.

Guilty Mexicans immediately run like hell and if caught, start blasting. Innocent ones bribe their way out of it. There are no other choices. Nobody gets away free.

Starting to sound familiar?

The latest Red Flag Law regarding legal firearms possession is without a doubt right their with a DUI checkpoint
The legal gun owner can be placed on a list as a potential danger to himself & others by an anonymous report and armed badge wearing minions will show up warrant in hand to confiscate their weapons , all of them . Should the victim of this arbitrary action show any signs of anger the badge wearing minion reports that the citizen angry regarding government confiscation of his property has a problem and was resistant to comply .
Be aware the badge wearing minions can and will show up ready to kill you quick .
It has already happened !

Take a cue from Donald Trump, who at least has this down pat. Go on the attack. Flip the script. Agree and amplify. Basically do anything but apologize, because apologizing signals weakness, and weakness invites further attack.

Game can make American White men the strong horse again.

Why are liberals and women more likely to want to punish individuals for apologizing?

One, women are more liberal than are men, so there’s some overlap between the “liberal” and “women” categories.

Two, cruelty is a specialty of the effete. The weaker sex — and among liberals, both the men and women qualify as the weaker sex — run riot whenever they get the upper hand, because those moments of power don’t come every day for them. An enemy who has apologized is therefore a target to strip of all dignity and torture in the public square, because his apology vindicates the liberal’s moral self-regard and provides a rationale for the liberal to indulge virtue signaling status contests.

If the masculine is concerned with achievement, then the feminine is concerned with social status (i.e., credentialism), and apologies from enemies can be exploited to gain more social status for oneself among one’s shitlib peers.

And this is why it’s a mistake to turn over the governance and stewardship of a nation to women and soyboys.

Related, this study also supports Poon Commandment XI.

XI. Be irrationally self-confident

No matter what your station in life, stride through the world without apology or excuse. It does not matter if objectively you are not the best man a woman can get; what matters is that you think and act like you are. Women have a dog’s instinct for uncovering weakness in men; don’t make it easy for them. Self-confidence, warranted or not, triggers submissive emotional responses in women. Irrational self-confidence will get you more pussy than rational defeatism.

CH at Chateau Heartiste notes a growing consequence for trashing whitey:

“In elitist circles, it’s not polite anymore to call people “stupid redneck,” “dumb wop,” or drunken mick.” So the rich folks have found a way to trash working class Americans by declaring whiteness an illness.

However, what this has done instead is brought all the rednecks, wops, micks, and others together against them. This is a fuse they should not have lit…

The pathologization of Whiteness is an EliteWhite workaround to continue to slur FreeWhites as the scope of socially acceptable slurs has narrowed, but the anti-Whiteness campaign has also been accelerated by the huge and growing surge of POCs for whom the urge to slur is more than a status signal to peers; it’s a bloodthirsty howl from their ids.

Elitist Whites have no idea the hunger and strength of the beast they uncaged”.

The first wrong step was tolerance, a close cousin to self delusion. Tolerance is rightly extended to children and pets, not to those who would bring low civilization itself. Reality is a merciless arena, being marginalized and powerless was the charitable option.

We’ve allowed whites to be treated as a noxious contaminant in an otherwise pristine population. No insult, no slur, no lie is forbidden. And no matter how outrageously abusive the slander, it can be done publicly with impunity.

There was a day when I said this only about us Appalachians. There came a day when the assault had expanded to include all white men. Now it’s all white people, past and present, and every construct and symbol of our existence. But they should have a care. There’s a rock ahead of their showboat, just under the suface, as Heartiste has pointed out.

Elitist whites have seen street theatre and random violence by adolescents and impulsive underachievers. They haven’t seen calm, calculated and implacable countermoves by the capable and determined. Now that engine is ticking over. Remember who turned the key

As well-educated as elites seem to be, it is amazing they understand so little about history, human behavior and snap back response. What they are building, with their own hands, is an implacable, merciless and fanatical enemy in ordinary Americans. By constantly building the pressure of insanely inappropriate insults, cultural destruction and reverse racism, they are making sure there will be NO OPTION for a plea deal. As has been suggested in The Fourth Turning, it likely will be all-out war between the two sides and dispatching someone who has been tormenting you for years will be a no-brainer…just like the recipient of the kill shot will be.

The government of the US and most other countries in the news have considered their population the enemy for some time now. What is changing is the people are beginning to return the favor. Personally, if Washington DC was vaporized tonight, as long as it didn’t mean it was part of an invasion of the normal part of the country, I wouldn’t give two shits what happened to them, other than mourning the loss of some nice architecture. The denizens, meh.

When your own population, in an ostensibly “free and democratic society” comes to loath the structures that govern them, the end is not a question of “if” but “when.” There is no telling how this will all conclude but I have strong hunch that when the punches start getting thrown from our side instead of just absorbing them, there may be a major revision of the wisdom missing from the elites’ program. Of course, by then, it is very possible you will not be able to buy piano wire at any price.

Great, go for it.

When we moved to Missouri from Oklahoma, we did so in stages over the course of several years. We traveled both interstate highways and secondary roads, as work schedule permitted.

I’ve gotten many speeding tickets along the way over the thirty years I’ve driven back and forth, but since 2015 when I got stopped and the cop asked to look in a cooler seen through my back window because he thought it suspicious, I’ve been a lot more careful about speeding. We are not talking annoying fines for having a lead foot. We are talking having a guy insist on looking into a cooler used to take food to my son in college, now filled with empty mason jars, because there is a law that says he can look anywhere in my car if he just SAYS he thinks it suspicious.

That, folks, is a behavior changing law. The cop just says he thought you were suspicious looking.

I traveled those roads with a lot of cash in those days (2010 through 2014). You can’t even mail cash now.

“A person merely walking down the street – even if it’s the middle of the night – should not have to produce “papers” on demand – or answer questions. He ought to be free to travel.”

Haha…..three times in the last two weeks. Conversation varies depending on the direction from which I am approached, but goes something like this:

Popo- “good evening, you doing ok?”

Me- “mornin’. How bout you, doin’ ok?”

Popo-“yes, just wondering why you were kind of hiding your face”

Me- “haha, I was just wonderin why you were slow rollin towards me with those blue LEDs on high beam for the last couple blocks. Slow nite?”

If they answer the ‘slow nite’ question, we fender trade a bit. If they don’t, I ask for name and badge number, and ask if their dash cam and body cam are on. And the conversation shifts a bit, and a couple of times the ‘back up’ rolls onto the scene.

I’ve quickly taken the conversation to 911, and “close the damn border”……only the two times a back up unit has showed up. I’ll acknowledge the likelihood that they are a freemason, which I don’t trust, and the certainty they are FOP members, which spends too much money lobbying to restrict more of my rights…it can go any direction they want.

Now, so far, they lightly tap the horn and stick an arm out the window and wave as they pass.

I don’t get you. You must be some self proclaimed sovereign citizen or something or really been done wrong by law enforcement or something and on a mission to hate all of them all the time.

Number one, most roads are public not private and they are extremely expensive to build and maintain.
Paying resonable registration fees and gas taxes to pay for them is not evil.

Number two, cars are large, heavy, go very fast, and more people are seriously injured and killed by them than any other specific activity thus reasonable licensing, operating laws and liability insurance is a sane thing.

If you ever get hit by an uninsured driver you will get it.

LEO’s can’t lawfully just pull you over anytime and check your papers whether you are driving, bicycling or walking. It requires probable cause.
If you are not under arrest and are free to go then you respectfully choose not to talk and go. If they won’t let you and have no PC then politely comply and then sue them for civil rights violations. If you have a good case many attorneys will take it pro bono.

The only possible legitimate complaint you may have is spot road checks. Remember these are public roads not private. Road checks don’t lawfully target individual’s they check everyone and so called papers can’t just be checked once again without an actual observable violation or PC of one. They must observe bald tires, loud exhaust, unregistered or uninspected vehicles etc…

Either you must have some really bad cops your way, you are a perpetual offender or knucklehead or you just like to whine alot. Which is it?

And I’m in no way making any excuses for control freak bad cops or unlawful stops or retention’s if that is truly the case.
They are out there and it does happen at times but there are far more good cops out there than bad ones.

Your advice about lip-zipping should be heeded.

Basically, name, rank, serial number only while being “interrogated”. Don’t say anything that the law doesn’t require you to say, not even about how your day is going.

“Why do you think I stopped you?” Don’t bite. Don’t answer the question. Ask your own questions:

“Am I free to go? Am I under arrest? May I have your name and badge number? Are your recording devices on?”

But, the part about get an attorney to pro bono your civil rights suit? In your dreams. Attorneys are almost as untrustworthy as cops – and not even 1% have taken a case pro bono out of altruistic urges.

As for “more good cops than bad”? You lost everybody except cops with that.

This ain’t Rockwell’s America and it ain’t yours.

Good cops are few and far between and they get marginalized in a hurry by their blue family if they aren’t on board with “US against them!”

If a cop is ‘good’, it makes his “backup” real nervous about whether he fits into their world of lying, stealing, brutalizing and raping innocent motorists.

Is it really that bad?

I do see the politicians want to control and regulate everything with every petty law possible and collect as much revenue as possible through fines and surcharges on them.

I also see that LEO’S are the enforcement and revenue collection arm of the state on their behalf, but is it all realy that bad?

If PO’s are just blindly following every traffic ticket quota order that aggressively that they are continually jerking around decent folks for every petty offense or just to stop a vehicle on a fishing expedition for a more serious offense that is a problem.

Good discretion and good public relations is far more important than hassling everyone for every little thing and writing cheap paper because you can or want a promotion.

Part of the problem is certainly if they want to keep their good paying job and benefits they’ll just do what they’re told and not rock the boat.

Good law enforcement is always foing to be a balancing act between lawfully enforcing the law and protecting individual constitutional rights and never about ticket #’s and fines collected.

Is it really that bad or are these things just isolated instances?

In the GDR, traveling was free, been there. Only delicate areas, like the border areas where off limits. If you want an example for a restricted population, have a look into the closed city system of Russia, still in existence.
They could build the Enterprise spaceship there, and nobody would have a clue. That is what it is for. TPTB surly use that option.
