TRUMP IS NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY

But, but, but, I thought jobs were coming back to ‘Merica. Tariffs were going to bring them back. Right? Bueller, Bueller, anyone.

Ford to eliminate 7,000 jobs, or 10% of workforce, by end August

Ford Motor Co. F, -0.24% is planning to eliminate 7,000 salaried jobs around the world by the end of August as part of its Smart Redesign program, according to an email sent to employees that was published by Automotive News. That will cut its workforce by 10% and help it save about $600 million a year, said the email. Notifications will be sent to North American workers on Tuesday, while restructuring work continues in Europe, China, South America and International Markets Group. The moves will reduce the company’s management structure by close to 20%, said the email. “We also made significant progress in eliminating bureaucracy, speeding up decision making and driving empowerment as part of this redesign,” it said. Ford shares rose 0.8% premarket, but are down 9.2% in the last 12 months, while the S&P 500 SPX, -0.25% has gained 5.4%.

Meh. Salaried jobs, most likely these are redundant management that sit around in their offices scheduling worthless meetings and accomplishing little, if any, real productive work. Saw these types regularly during my career. Most likely no loss to the overall productivity of the business.

Yeah, they’re letting 75,000 emails a day go away.

My original comment is still the truth even if you downvote me. Can’t stand the truth? You must be a Democrat!

That and probably some dead weight Diversity(tm) hires that Ford had to purge as well.

“…Smart Redesign program…”
-Ford Motor Company

“Smart”: the best brains at Ford and top consultants are working on it.

“Redesign”: The finest engineers and designers are on the cutting edge of progress.

“program”: One needs a program, like at the baseball game, to be able to tell who the players are. Statistics and management. All the records too.

I like this euphemism; a great new name for loyal, long-term employees getting fucked over. No lube. No kiss. No reach around.

So who can afford a $75,000 pickup truck? A $45,000 pickup? How’s about a $35,000 pickup? Hell, I can buy a lot and a singlewide for the cost of a vehicle. How many billions of new vehicles are stacked and stashed around the globe? Little burg near me has those lots all over the place, full of vehicles that no one can afford. Lay-offs? But of course.

The big three probably shouldn’t have survived through about 2010. Assuming Trump doesn’t continue to prop them up I see pain for them in the future unless they clean up their act. This could be Ford finally seeing the writing on the wall.

The old wisecrack about “FORD: found on road dead” isn’t that far off. I wouldn’t buy one. I own the most “American” car you can buy. A Toyota Avalon made in Kentucky with 82% American made parts and labor.

I own stock in Toyota too. Don’t let your own financial ignorance get in the way…..and it is still the most American car you didn’t buy.

A serious question: How would you decide for a new vehicle, such as a car, an SUV or a truck?

I would keep it for 15-20 years if there is still gas available at middle-class affordable prices. Comfort and maintenance costs are both important.

I doubt that cheap gas will be here in the next 15 years. A small car like Camry would bring me from A to B. RAV4 or CR-V would offer slightly more comfort. There is concern about Prius battery life.

Thank you.

Choose a make and model that you also see used often as service or police vehicles. Reliability and long life are usually designed into those models.

Look at the stuff that is 15 years old and see what they look like. A 15 year old Avalon or Camry can still look darn good. Same with Honda Pilots and Ridgelines. The Subarus are legendary.
I just junked two Buick LeSabres my two youngest had the past 12 years and 7 years. One was 20 years old and totally shot. The frame broke on it a couple of years ago and was repaired. One was 14 years old and a beauty in most regards but the frame broke and it was worth more for parts. Replaced the 20 year old with a new Subaru Legacy and the 14 year old with a Subaru Crosstrek. The Legacy isn’t driven a lot yet and gets low 30’s around the area while the Crosstrek is getting a lot of use and does 36 around town and over 40 highway. I agree those batteries are dang expensive to replace on the gas hybrids.

I was against the Chrysler bail out the dumping of foreign steel and other industrial products into our nations economy back in 1979 and earlier . That was when the big three only had to use 20% of US manufactured products to call it an American car . That was also when a UAW member in my family told me to buy an American car to save his job but he built a car with an engine made in Mexico with wiring harnesses made in Taiwan and 80% of the steel from Japan . Not to mention he shopped the non union grocery store that paid lower salaries and no benefits to its employees but me a laid off steelworker was supposed to give a rats ass about his job !
The foundry in Flint closed and his UAW brothers were out of a job . The Westinghouse plant that the electrical worker and another union brother out of work .
The powers that be pegged the American working people against each other and instead of uniting against the common enemy of average working Americans we let them win !
The circle jerk of the investor class of Wall Street to K-Street to Capitol Street are truly the domestic enemy of the American People ! Industry gone , a debt based economy and currency and lies compounded by more lies at all levels of government of how great things are . Things are great for that top percentage that benefit from socialism of crony capitalist circle jerk members and of course those in their employ in government especially that militarized badge wearing armed minions poised to keep the masses in line by “ Just doing my job” . Remember who is retiring with life left to enjoy and income to live it . It’s not average working Americans anymore but they are forced to pay the debt to cover it till they drop dead !
See true socialism works great for the top and their minions !
