Big Ag and Open Borders: You Are What You Eat

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

Yesterday I spent five or six hours walking with the herd from one meadow to the next. The Border Collie worked with me like a real partner, and the cows would take a moment every now and again to come up to me for a scratch on the neck before wandering off again. The calves are all starting to graze at this point, the youngest only a week old and they move together in their own generational sub-herd, frolicking in the fresh air under the open sky.

I understand that my way of life is economically “unfeasible” as the Masters of the Universe would say, and that the “get big or get out ” mindset controls fully 90% of all agricultural operations in America today. And that’s with fewer than 750,000 farmers left to feed the other 350 million Americans, not to mention all the exports to foreign countries. But at what cost? Have we lost our souls completely?

Why is it that the anyone supporting alternative nutrition, for example, have been purged from the Internet by corporate leviathans while they turn a blind eye to what can only be described as pure evil? Every so often I have to take a break from the degradation corruption of the modern world for my own sanity and just try to live my life, but ignoring evil is its own form iniquity, so here I am once again having to stare Baal right in the eyes. I cannot stand to think what we do not see.

The next time one of you orders a Coca-Cola I want you to remember that it was only possible because of the abuse of living things and wide open borders that allow these kinds of humans in our midst.

You are what you eat.

China says the US Ag producers will never recover their markets….OK no problem I am pretty sure that there are lots of other export markets. Sadly it used to be that a herd of 50 beef cattle could sustain a family of four on a ranch in MT. Now that number is closer to 250 head (barely breaking even on a cow-calf operation) and that assumes you already own the land or on a very attractive lease. At 500 head you might have a shot at making some money,….though most new ranchers make a small fortune by investing a large one!

Now we have oceans of Angus across MT and hay production through the roof…..lots of hay from last year still left over also. But it ain’t easy and for young people, most leave for the city. HS has a pretty interesting and unique set up with the maple syrup production, a real labor of love but quite satisfying I am sure.

The AG sector monoculture at scale is a soul-destroying enterprise, 100% sure the progress is not a positive.

Thanks. Yes, corporations and government appear to have lost their soul. Hard to keep looking at it, everywhere.
Seek out a prepper church that preaches God and pray.
Live well, be happy and share with others.
Grow fruits and veggies, go south in the winter as long as you can.
Wastefully buy pullets in the spring, give them away when leaving or it gets too cold. But good fresh eggs are worth it.
Deer, turkeys, fish are around us and available to the motivated.
Stores are still stocked, shop the sales, easy to have a year+ of supplies.
Double up on fuel tanks, propane, butane, Coleman type fuel, have a gas powered woodsplitter and a woodstove.
Have a gas, diesel powered vehicle and a bicycle or motorcycle.
A crossbow is almost silent and accurate.

And, some of the big AG states out west have create laws specifically to punish this type of reporting, as seen in the video. Unfortunately, this is another indicator that the problem is more widespread than this one particular farm.

My former neighbor quite the 9-5 to grow grass fed beef, he used to bring them into my hay field, during calving season, it was really cool to watch newborns calves, with their mamas. He has moved onto his on 500 acre spread, growing those Highland cows originally from Scotland.

It is not just out west. Some Eastern states have passed laws making it illegal to film in a CAFO such as Ohio.

Horrifying. We are blessed with several organic beef farmers around us, but have purchased free range beef for years, even in Oklahoma. Driving by the stockyards in the Oklahoma Panhandle several times convinced me to never buy stockyard beef again.

I have almost completely given up purchasing carbonated drinks, opting to make my own with SodaStream equipment and pure water from a deep spring well.

However, I admit to having a real liking for Pepsi, so occasionally, I will purchase a canned drink to pour over ice. However, I noticed a couple years ago that Pepsi cans appeared to have two options in the non-diet category.

One said “Real Sugar.”

That caused me to research and find out what the alternative to Real Sugar was in the other can.

Now, I really should not say anything bad about CORN due to my close proximity to some of the biggest corn producers the world has ever seen. Every one of them will defend the use of high fructose corn syrup without flinching at any evidence presented to the contrary. There is just too much money made processing all possible products which might be gleaned from GMO corn, even those once considered to be toxic waste but now approved for consumption by the FDA.

I still have an occasional “real sugar” Pepsi, but rarely. I’m not really all that comfortable with refined sugar either, especially now that I know how very much cancer cells and other pathogenic bacteria thrive on it. Not to mention that it kills GOOD gut bacteria.

Our grassfed Angus beef is packed away after happy couple of years in the pasture over the hillside. Raised by a nice farmer, his wife and three very wholesome and homeschooled children… the ones my son called “too wholesome for their own damn good.”

He’s wrong, though. He’ll find that out.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR BODY WHEN YOU DRINK A COKE

First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor, allowing you to keep it down.

20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (And there’s plenty of that at this particular moment.)

40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate; your blood pressure rises; as a response, your liver dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked, preventing drowsiness.

45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production, stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.

> 60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium, and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.

> 60 minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium, and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolytes, and water.

> 60 minutes: As the rave inside you dies down, you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, evacuated all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like hydrating your system, or building strong bones and teeth.

And if the above NARRATIVE doesn’t result in YOU boycotting Coke forever …. then you’re just a fucken moran.

Hey HF, you ever had a downer?
I had one in a hammock under the swing set for 10 days last month.
Pumped her full of calcium, phosphorus, dextrose.. the whole deal.

She had a great appetite, loved the midnight ear scratches.
Just couldn’t get her back legs to work.
I let her down every two hours for 45 minutes of physio therapy.
C’mon Stormy,.. work those legs baby!

Broke my heart to slit her throat and dump her in a hole.
I couldn’t even feed her to the dogs she was such a nice Jersey.

What would you have done?

Off topic I know.
I cannot remember the last time i had a Coke.
I drink sour mandarin juice, sometimes with a bit of whiskey.

the workers in slaughter houses and huge dairy farms are generally muslim and/or mexican/latin. These are people who are generally very cruel and callous to animals. Go to Mexico and see how they treat their animals, what they do to donkeys can be unspeakable and when bullfighting is a ‘sport’ then you have a real good understanding of who you are dealing with. They have cockfights in Walmarts in Mexico.
Here in S. Texas they have the Charreria, a Mexican rodeo and the animals they use are horribly abused. I’ve seen the horses after the abuse and said abuse goes on for many, many events. The horses are scarred, lame, beyond skittish and sold for slaughter afterwards.
” horses had rope burns and torn tendons and were severely emaciated.”

Not a big milk drinker but I do love cheese. Assuming the good shit I buy from the creameries in Wisconsin are better. I already don’t drink the sugar water but Coke does have their fingers into just about everything so do your research if you want t completely boycott the fuckers.

Both of my folks grew up on farms and I’ve been around plenty of agriculture. Used to spend summers on what I refer to Old MacDonald’s farm because it was a small family farm with dairy, hogs and chicken. I can assure you if we were caught beating a calf Farmer Roy would’ve taken us to the shed for a whipping.

I bet a lot of those workers are probably illegals too. You know what they say about psychos that abuse animals – it’s only time before they do the same to a person. Remember the illegal that murdered the college girl in Iowa last year? Yeah…I don’t want to hang around a bunch of savages like in that film.

This story makes me think of Temple Grandin. The movie and her autistic charming ways depicted in the movie were an inspiring story of cows and ways to ease their transition from an animal worthy of decent treatment to a piece of meat for market.

I have no experience in dairy farming or cattle ranching beyond going to a Maine farm with milking cows when I was 7 years old. Do you have an opinion on the Temple Grandin story?

I recall a science paper from the 70’s (designed by Coke) to prove drinking coke did not cause dental decay in institutionalized children. It was totally flawed in design but published in the dental press as an endorsement for Coke products.

Temple not only revolutionized animal slaughter making it more humane, she also brought the ‘squeeze chute’ into the forefront for large animal treatment. She discovered that instead of running cattle up a straight line to the slaughter house, a circular path that wound around into the slaughter arena would keep the animals calm. She’s a high functioning autistic. she’s written several books and is a remarkable woman.

i’ve seen cattle killed in pasture, they were eating and then shot, they never knew what hit them.
