A standoff between Republican and Democratic Oregon state senators escalated on Friday after Governor Kate Brown (D) authorized state police to track down Republican lawmakers who have stalled a vote on carbon credit legislation by walking out and refusing to vote.
Under the proposed cap-and-trade bill, Oregon would put an overall limit on greenhouse gas emissions and auction off pollution “allowances” for each ton of carbon industries plan to emit. The legislation would lower that cap over time to encourage businesses to move away from fossil fuels: The state would reduce emissions to 45% below 1990 levels by 2035 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.
Those opposed to the cap-and-trade plan say it would exacerbate a growing divide between the liberal, urban parts of the state and the rural areas. The plan would increase the cost of fuel, damaging small business, truckers and the logging industry, they say. –ABC13
While Oregon Democrats have a rare 18 to 12 supermajority in the House and Senate, they cannot approve the bill without at least two Republicans present. After several days of heated debate between the two sides, eleven GOP members mutually agreed to boycott the vote.
“The Senate Democrats have requested the assistance of the Oregon State Police to bring back their colleagues to finish the work they committed to push forward,” Brown said on Thursday, adding “As the executive of the agency, I am authorizing the State Police to fulfill the Senate Democrats’ request.”
(Of note, Oregon House Democrats once fled the capitol in 2001 for five days over a redistricting proposal – which Brown said at the time was “appropriate under the circumstances.)
Sen. Brian Boquist (R) didn’t take too kindly to Brown’s threat – telling a reporter he was prepared for a bloody standoff if state troopers show up for him. Boquist had previously told Brown that “hell is coming to visit you personally” if she went forward with the threat.

Meanwhile, Oregon’s Senate President Peter Courtney’s office told ABC13 that each missing Senator was hit with a $500 fine on Friday, which would continue daily until they vote on the legislation.
Republicans immediately pushed back.
“We will file legal action,” said Sen. Tim Knopp, a Republican from Bend who has said he has been in three states in the past three days. “If they were trying to bring us back, threatening to arrest us and impose fines isn’t going to work.”
Senate Majority Leader Ginny Burdick said Republicans have no legal recourse as the fine is explicitly written in statute. A GoFundMe to cover the rogue lawmakers’ expenses and fines raised nearly $30,000 in less than a day. State ethics laws prohibit officials from receiving gifts exceeding $50, so it’s unclear whether senators could access the money. –ABC13
State police, meanwhile, will have the ability to track down senators and force them into a patrol car to return to the capitol, though the agency promises to use “polite communication” and patience throughout the process.

You know, your remark about AGWs reminds me of what happened down in Johnson County, Kentucky, about 30 years ago. The sheriff was Billy Ray Cyrus’ uncle, and he and a deputy went to arrest a man for allegedly hitting his wife. While they were on the front porch knocking on the door, that man they were looking for was hiding behind a big bush and shot the Sheriff and Deputy dead. In Kentucky we call that getting “bushwhacked”. In their case the immediate death sentence was their own deaths.

Where I live shooting at the police is a bad idea as they are well armed and have plenty of backup. Another is many are pro 2 amendment or the ones I know are. They are retired but they tell me most cops have no problem with family and friends having fire arms. Most Guard members are pro 2 amendment .( Where I live ) They are all white and Southern born so I guess that’s the reason for the overall positive attitude towards Guns. I wouldn’t want to push any of these men towards the left for any reason.
LEO’s just like all other “groups” aren’t monolithic in thought or beliefs. You see alot of push back from Sheriffs and county level types in law enforcement. Also depends on what type of LEO they are. But alot of bigger city types will follow orders and shoot at their non-tribe members without alot of resistance. My one friend is a City LEO but he’s very pro 2nd and he says its about 50/50 in his dept. Alot of the cops are still somewhat Democratic leaning, but less so after some of what they consider anti-cop stuff supported by Demo’s. My other buddy is border patrol and he says they lean heavily conservative, and especially now adays. The Dems have almost no support within that group even if some of them were previously Demo’s. Being demonized constantly and having illegals set free that shoot at them and occasionally kill them is a big deal. My border patrol buddy has been in more gun fights on the border then he did during his military career. He is up north now so its not bad, but he had to spend his first 10yrs in the SW.
If it gets bad enough that police are targeted in this country beyond the occasional nutjub type, those type of things will be happening to them most likely when they are off duty at home etc. If some of the things being pushed by the Demo Commie states attempt to become Federal law, things will definitely get bad pretty quick. I have no faith left in the Supreme Court actually upholding the 2nd, they have sat on their hands for decades as states enact law after law with the goal of eventually making it so expensive, or so difficult that gun owners are marginalized to the point of extinction. I already know how to solve the CO2 emission issue and efficiently load balance all renewable energy production and I know that they know the solution too because I told them how to do it and the solution is actually very simple. That’s why the reps are running, they know it’s a scam. Instead of building jobs they will suck more resources out and further destroy jobs.

The Ds are also passing a prohibition on single-family zoning. This includes prohibiting any covenants between property owners stating that a neighborhood is only for single-family residents.
The liberals think that if we only build more multi-family units and get rid of all those wasteful single family homes, the housing affordability crisis will be solved and the streets of Portland will no longer be filled with tents. Talk about magical thinking!
The best part of this drama is that the Idaho State Police were asked for assistance by Oregon and they said: nothing we can do, they didn’t break any Idaho laws.

Single family homes are a form of luxury…
Not everyone can afford a big boat, so, by decree all luxury vessels must now be multi-owner/user. No single family can own a boat and no more can be built.
Not everyone can afford a big RV, so, by decree all future RV’s must be multi-owner/user. No single family can own an RV and no more can be built.
Not everyone can afford expensive clothes, so, by decree all future clothing must be multi-owner/user. No single individual can own clothes and no more single-owner clothing can be made.
When there’s a lack of housing, housing prices will stay high. More housing that have caps on what the owner receives to sell, which is the only way they become affordable by government mandate, is not an incentive for building more houses. Rent controls will be required if people can’t own, which gives no incentive for building more rentals.
If someone was smart, they could buy property and build very, very, very small, cheaper housing for those with a job. They could build apartments in the downtown area close to amenities, but not in neighborhoods. Making single-family areas into apartment or multi-family units is only an incentive for the people already living there to move out, and possibly out of state.
Government interference in the housing/rental market only causes more problems.
The push to eliminate single family dwellings in favor of multi-family units is not about affordability. It is the UN Agenda 21/Agenda 2030 which will herd people into human habitation zones and return everything else to wild land.

The white dominated Rhodesia, South Africa and other states (Namibia) were caught on the wrong side of history in the anti-colonial period. Are we in the USA 2020 going to be caught on the losing side and have our country turned into a commie hell hole? Maybe.
