Dems Change Mind On Border Wall After Realizing It Will Keep People From Leaving When We Switch To Socialism

Via The Babylon Bee

U.S.—The nation’s Democratic leaders announced Tuesday they are reversing course on Trump’s proposed border wall, since “it will keep people in once we switch to socialism.”

“We thought the border wall was a bad, racist idea,” said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “But then this light bulb turned on over my head. It was actually just a light bulb though, not an actual idea, which was disappointing. But that got me thinking about trying to have an idea. And I got an idea: when we switch to socialism, everyone’s gonna try to run away. But what if there’s a big, solid object along the border? Then they can’t run away. I mean, they could try to climb, but we could shoot them.”

Senator Bernie Sanders said in his experience, walls are “absolutely necessary” to keep a socialist country’s citizens from fleeing. “The Soviets had it right: big wall in Berlin, the symbolic Iron Curtain, shooting people who try to flee. It’s all necessary to a healthy socialist state.” Besides, Sanders added, politicians like him would be exempt from the “no running away” rule and he could fly out any time he wanted on a government plane.

Dems suggested maybe the border wall could use some upgrades such as landmines on the U.S. side, outposts with guards armed with AK-47s, and attack dogs. It will also need to be extended to surround the entire country and “maybe also a big dome around the top.”

There will never be a border wall because Trump doesn’t want one.

I and many others have always said that any wall big enough to keep them all out, will also be big enough to keep us all in. That may seem fine NOW…….

Agree. Never wanted/want a wall for same reason. Make the penalties for crossing the border prohibitive (rather than give them free housing, for example), and they will stop crossing.

Agreed. Unless the incentives are stopped, the parasites will keep coming (both from foreign AND domestic quarters). Instead, folks pretend that we have still have the massive pile of money sitting just on the other side of the massive wall and somehow everyone will stop trying to come. LOL.

A friend sent me this via email.

If you are fearful that the new generation of voters don’t get it, read this article written by Alyssa Ahlgren. I think her analysis of why they think the way they do is exactly correct.

“I’m sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis trying to think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed on my phone looking at the latest headlines of Democratic candidates calling for policies to “fix” the so-called injustices of capitalism. I put my phone down and continue to look around. I see people talking freely, working on their MacBook’s, ordering food they get in an instant, seeing cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we’ve become completely blind to it. Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don’t give them a second thought. We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty. One. Times. Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful.

Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, “An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity.”

Never saw American prosperity. Let that sink in. When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I’ve ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Now, I’m not attributing Miss Ocasio-Cortez’s words to outright dishonesty. I do think she whole-heartedly believes the words she said to be true. Many young people agree with her, which is entirely misguided. My generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream narrative to actually believe we have never seen prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let’s just say I didn’t have the popular opinion, but I digress.

Let me lay down some universal truths really quick. The United States of America has lifted more people out of abject poverty, spread more freedom and democracy, and has created more innovation in technology and medicine than any other nation in human history. Not only that but our citizenry continually breaks world records with charitable donations, the rags to riches story is not only possible in America but not uncommon, we have the strongest purchasing power on earth, and we encompass 25% of the world’s GDP. The list goes on. However, these universal truths don’t matter. We are told that income inequality is an existential crisis (even though this is not an indicator of prosperity, some of the poorest countries in the world have low-income inequality), we are told that we are oppressed by capitalism (even though it’s brought about more freedom and wealth to the most people than any other system in world history), we are told that the only way we will acquire the benefits of true prosperity is through socialism and centralization of federal power (even though history has proven time and again this only brings tyranny and suffering).

Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop, do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who are dying to get into our country. People around the world destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young generation convinced they’ve never seen prosperity, and as a result, elect politicians dead set on taking steps towards abolishing capitalism. Why? The answer is this, my generation has ONLY seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We didn’t live in the great depression, or live through two world wars, or see the rise and fall of socialism and communism. We don’t know what it’s like not to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don’t have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, and it’s spreading like a plague.

With the current political climate giving rise to the misguided idea of a socialist utopia, will we see the light? Or will we have to lose it all to realize that what we have now is true prosperity? Destroying the free market will undo what millions of people have died to achieve.

My generation is becoming the largest voting bloc in the country. We have an opportunity to continue to propel us forward with the gifts capitalism and democracy has given us. The other option is that we can fall into the trap of entitlement and relapse into restrictive socialist destitution. The choice doesn’t seem too hard, does it?”

One of the enlightened ones who gets it. Wake up some friends, Alyssa.

In Desiderata, it advises to not compare oneself to others.
If more well off than them, we become vain. Pompous pricks.
If less successful and affluent than others, one becomes bitter. Jealous. Envious.
Justifying the taking of things, on someone else’s dime, thinking it is owed, or deserved. A right.

The takers will, I believe, become emboldened and turn to violence, thievery, and predatory tactics more vicious, as things get lean and mean.
“You gots, and I don’t. Gimme”
seems to be a plague mindset of the progtards calling for socialism.
To which I say, fuck off. I earned my keep.
And if there’s no enforcement of law, there will be blood in the streets, the fields, the cars, the stores, and homes.
I’ll go out on another limb here and predict that vigilante justice, with premeditated stealth, or instantaneously, will fuel blowback violence, in an increasingly powerful negative cycle. Innocent victims will be left for somebody else to clean up. Guilty victims will disappear, and remains might never be found.
Those roving bands that head for rural prepper stashes better bring a lot of Kool aid, and a squad of brethren.
Trespassers will not be treated as guests, but like the vermin they are. They will long for these days, when modest effort can still attain the most basic of needs.

Spot on, about never having tasted true poverty.
It’s called taking things for granted, and in all our abundance, it’s still never enough.
DB is right. Greed is the most wicked of deadly sins.
Accumulators will be sought.
Even the frugal ought best to keep very low profiles, trusting few.
Surround yourselves with like minded, with strength in numbers, and vital provisions.
You’ll need them to survive.

Granted, I’m Gen-X, but reading an article on ZH earlier about gold drove a point home for me… My first job out of high school, minimum wage, only a few (if not 1) days would buy an oz of gold.

Now, I’m almost twice minimum wage, and it would be 5-6 weeks after taxes to do the same.

Decline in living standards? Yeah.

Yes, except the democracy statement. The US is, and was no democracy, it was never intended to be.

Walls are the oldest trick in the book. They tell the tale of the military purpose of the chinese wall. It makes no sense military, it was just for herding the people, and to collect taxes. Same with the socialist walls, in the end, both sides of the wall work together. The GDR town where I grew up made tape, MCs where assembled by prison workers, witch were exported to the west. This is how big profit is made. They still do the same to Korea.
The US has a plantation system in place, biggest prison population on the planet. Walls too. As if the US would go to that system, we are living in it! It is the beast system, it is worldwide, existing thousands of years.
