Trump Impeachment

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House is opening a formal impeachment inquiry of Trump, saying he’s violated his oath of office and obligations under the Constitution. Her announcement that she will begin an impeachment inquiry over Ukraine has now been the excuse for US stocks to revisit support. There was no announcement of a vote on the floor to endorse an inquiry.

Pelosi’s action does not even mean that there will ever be actual charges against the president. It would have to be a trial in the Senate if charged, and there is no conduct that would warrant actually removing him from office. Clearly, we should expect this for the 2020 election just as the Republicans used that against Bill Clinton. It backfired on the Republicans and it will backfire on the Democrats. It’s a great distraction from trying to get a complete socialist takeover of the US government in 2020.

People are not elected to Congress to simply obstruct and oppose anything the opposite side proposes. This is what politics has degenerated into — political wars. They no longer see themselves as “representatives” of the people. It is all about personal power. This is why politics is doomed. It does not matter who is elected. If the Democrats won in 2020, the Republicans would adopt their strategies and obstruct whatever they could. We have lost any hope of a functioning government.

“We have lost any hope of a functioning government.”

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

You can’t fix government. It’s working exactly the way it’s designed to.

He says it like it’s a bad thing because Armstrong is on the long list of status quo, big government, softball columnists who probably couldn’t make it in the real world without government edicts and interference in the market.

EC: Yup, a ‘functioning’ government this day and age is a group that gets together to see how many ways they can screw you over, take your money and what’s left of your freedoms. I’m always amused when the government shuts down and nothing bad happens, and, in fact, life seems to breathe easier and feel better.

When you add up the taxes you pay from mandatory auto, home and health insurance along with all the various taxes including those on your cell phone bill, it’s a lot of money going out from the paycheck.

Nice paycheck you got there, be a shame if something happened to it.

Is there some kind of rule to stop Trump from winning the 2020 election after being removed from office? Once he’s the official 2020 GOP nominee, he could be on the ballot even if he’d been kicked out of office. Let Pence be president just long enough to order the public schools to say the Our Father and make ladies wear the bonnets, then Trump could win and get inaugurated again. His slogan could be that he’s “pre-impeached”. Maybe he’d even re-start the clock on the two-term limit. It’d be like what Putin did by making Medvedyev the president for a little while. Very Stable Genius.

He’d have to be convicted before being kicked out. Nixon resigned before even being impeached.
——————————–
By late 1973, the Watergate scandal escalated, costing Nixon much of his political support. On August 9, 1974, he resigned in the face of almost certain impeachment and removal from office—the only time a U.S. president has done so.

The Watergate hearings were a real eye opener to the news media. They learned that people would just sit and watch political theater as if it was real.

How many people watched CSPAN regularly? Is it still worth watching from time to time? We do not subscribe to any dish packages. We rely on local news and our internet access. When I read full articles here and catch up a bit, I come away a bit shell shocked.

The world around me doesn’t look the same as the one where you are standing, I truly believe.
