More Californians Forced To Run Extension Cords To Neighboring States

Via The Babylon Bee

CALIFORNIA—Deprived of luxuries like power and freedom, more and more Californians are being forced to run extension cords over to their neighbors in adjacent states.

A caravan of migrant Californians was seen traversing the deserts separating the state from its eastern neighbors, towing hundreds of miles’ worth of extension cords.

Californians knocked on random Nevada and Arizona residents’ doors and asked if they could borrow some power to charge their cellphones, power their espresso machines, and run their tanning beds. They were surprised to discover how nice people were in other states, saying things like, “Sure, neighbor!” and “No problem. Do you want to borrow any guns or cactuses?”

Unfortunately, the increased power demand caused the power grids in Arizona and Nevada to get knocked out, so they had to run extension cords over to New Mexico and Utah, respectively. Then their power got knocked out, and their neighbors’ power, and so on and so on until all the states on the East Coast were forced to run extension cords over to Europe, but they were electrocuted to death because of the water hazard.

Californians are now looking for an alternative energy source, such as rubbing balloons on hipsters’ beards.

At some point before they get to the Mississippi River, they will be told to get a hamster and a wheel to generate their own electricity.

This is the day Enron dreamed of. Oh Skilling, where is thy sting? Oh Ken Lay where is thy victory? Our extension cords reach all the way to heaven.

Funny (not). My city (west side Santa Cruz) was NOT supposed to be impacted according to PG+E power company web site, but power went out anyway for 44 hours and I gotta say, there was little wind to speak of here to knock down trees of which we have few of those either in the city.
Ice/batteries sold out in an hour of the unscheduled outage here.

I had to drive 35 miles over to Santa Clara (who has their own power utility that never goes black because silicon valley depends on it) to get ice. Nutz.

The only upside.. I got to clean out my freezer of those 5 year old fries, veggies, and other mysterious things at the bottom. Plenty of room in their now. There is only so much to do without power , and I’m kinda old for the best thing.

I’m seriously considering a generator, IF they ever keep any in stock here for more than an hour.

“I’m seriously considering a generator”

Look at the maintenance interval (and the availability of spares) before you buy.

Most of the shitty little gasoline generators need to have their oil and filters changed every 100 hours or so. I’d at least consider a diesel engine driven prime power generator, with a maintenance interval of at least 500 hours (and a large enough fuel tank to run for that long), if I were you.

You can order online but there are two that have been recalled, one a Honda and the other a Firman. The beer bitch says the UPS guy is delivering about 200 a day here in the AV.

Back to the old Ice Box. Or maybe a little propane option?

False. Anyone stupid enough to still be in California is far, far too moronic to grasp the utility of extension cords, much less the phenomenon of electricity.

He is 100% correct.

The cash that, in a sane society, would have gone toward maintaining infrastructure has been siphoned off into the welfare black hole. The diverse welfare class gets socialized everything, and the ever-shrinking number of white taxpayers just get the bill.

FTL:
First and foremost, illegal immigration is the problem. Since I left two decades ago, California has collectively spent hundreds of billions of dollars on illegal aliens and their bills- public schools, free meals at school, special bi-lingual teachers, healthcare, housing allowances, low income energy assistance, aid to families with dependent children, prisons, cops, courts, public defenders, welfare, food stamps and a hundred other government handouts. And don’t forget special lower college tuition for illegals.

California now has far more welfare parasites than taxpayers. It can’t not collapse.

I can tell you’re getting rambunctious. LOL

Don’t sweat it, man. My beloved Commonwealth of Virginia turned into a raving lunatic shithole from Fredericksburg northward. I loathe having to bash NoVA and DC but the truth is the truth about how craptacular they are now.

In the last couple of years the smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detector industry has pushed new products with 10 year batteries that are sealed in and therefore are non-replaceable. Worry free, but at a price premium. However, for AC powered alarms having the 10 year battery as a backup the value proposition goes to hell when the power goes down for days on end: the battery will hit end of life fairly quickly and the overpriced product becomes unusable and therefore worthless. Caveat emptor, especially with unreliable AC.
