LAKE JACKSON, TX—Sometimes adults will jump out and scare children with creepy costumes or presentations on climate change. But former senator and presidential candidate Ron Paul came up with a new tactic to frighten trick or treaters: jumping out and lecturing them on the ballooning national debt.
As the first trick-or-treaters rang his doorbell for the evening, Paul leaped from his front door and cried out, “The national debt is rapidly approaching $23 trillion!”
The kids froze in fright, their candy bags extended, their eyes wide in terror. “This has at least three dire effects on the country: higher taxes, a weaker U.S. dollar, and a cycle of increased borrowing to make up for the expanding deficit. You see, the Fed is an unregulated beaur—”
Finally, the kids found their voices. “AHHHHHHH!!!!” they screamed, scrambling to escape from Paul’s front porch.
“As both the size of the debt increases and interest rates increase, the amount we pay for interest on the national debt will increase by hundreds of billions of dollars. And who will get billed for that? The US taxpayer!” he called out as they ran down the block in terror. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
“Hey, wait, you forgot your candy!” he added.

A rare individual. Deeply principled, rock-solid freedom fighter, knd, humble, college track athlete, Air Force flight surgeon, regularly returned a portion of his allocated funds to the Treasury, fought the rigged system in three (IIRC) presidential campaigns on the Libertarian and Republican tickets, knows far more about history, economics, and monetary theory than any of the ivy league ((PhD’s)) who infested the ((Federal Reserve)) or the ((Council of Economic Advisors)). I’m sure those who knew him personally could elaborate further.
I believe he was the last chance we had. Voting for him was the last vote I cast and will ever cast.
I’ve supported him since he ran in 1988. He was a budding star from the beginning. Murray loved him. That was enough for me. He actually would lecture anyone on the subject. He has always understood the pure evil the fed represents.
These kids have never lived in a world without debt. Without Credit Cards or Installment Plans or Parents with homes paid off free and clear. When (If) the debt spigot closes, that’s when reality will really set in. For all.
