When every sidewalk is considered “public property,” then nobody gives a shit (pardon the pun) about it, and nobody is ALLOWED to give a shit about it. It is the common “failure of the commons.” When everyone owns it, nobody owns it, and those who seize it, hold all the power. It is only worsened by the fact that these cities likely go out of their way to ensure that all of these people, despite having NO permanent address, are allowed to vote in local elections, elect people to represent their particular sidewalk, and mostly vote for democrats.
The city should advertise its shitability. For tourists who might enjoy dropping trou right on the street in broad daylight.
