Wounded FedEx Driver Kills Armed Robber During Shootout in Philadelphia, Police Say

A wounded FedEx delivery driver turned the tables on an armed robber who shot him, killing him during a shootout in Philadelphia, police said.

“Based on the preliminary story that was relayed it appears to be self defense: he was shot first, he fired back,” Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter said.

The 32-year-old FedEx driver traveled to the 600 block of Unruh Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to make a delivery. As he walked to the home he was approached by an armed robber who stole items from his FedEx truck, according to investigators. The robber then opened fire, shooting the driver in the abdomen.

The driver, who police said was armed with his own weapon, returned fire, striking the robber several times. The injured robber managed to escape with several stolen items. Meanwhile, the injured delivery driver got into his vehicle and drove away.

The wounded FedEx driver drove to the 6600 block of Oxford Avenue where he was found by police. The officers then took the driver to Einstein Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

“We’re hopeful that he will be OK,” Coulter said.

Around the same time, police found a 27-year-old man, who they believe was the armed robber, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds in a rear alley on the 1400 block of Creston Street. Police said the man also had several items in his possession that were stolen from the FedEx driver.

The 27-year-old man was taken to Einstein Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m.

Police also found a vehicle on the 5900 block of Large Street that they believe was used to transport the robber after the initial shooting. Police discovered blood inside the vehicle as well as another man standing near it.

The man near the car was not injured and police don’t know at this point whether he was involved in the robbery. That man was taken into police custody and is considered a person of interest.

Police recovered the FedEx driver’s weapon, but have not yet recovered the robber’s weapon. They told NBC10 the robber’s weapon may be inside the bloody vehicle which was taken to a police garage. They plan to search through it after obtaining a warrant.

Police will also search through surveillance video from the multiple crime scenes. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10 they will continue to interview the FedEx driver who is cooperating with the investigation.

“I don’t know if the FedEx driver has a valid permit to carry, but that’s definitely going to be part of the investigation,” Small said.

NBC10 reached out to FedEx to determine whether their employees are allowed to carry while on the job.

“We are not at liberty to disclose details of our internal policies,” a FedEx spokesperson wrote. “All further questions should be directed to law enforcement.”

The spokesperson also told NBC10 they were aware of Tuesday night’s incident.

“The safety of our team members and service providers is a top priority and we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time,” the spokesperson wrote.

If the driver doesn’t have all the necessary permissions to protect his own life, then he could end up in serious trouble with gov’t.

I’d bet Fed Ex has a policy of no weapons and he’s likely to get fired no matter what else happens.

No entity has the right to prevent another person from carrying whatever weapon he deems necessary to protect himself. Any entity attempting to do so is tyrannical.

it’s a catch-22 for any manager. if the manager allows employees to be armed on their own recognizance, and one of them goes bonkers and shoots another company employee (very possible), then the company through the manager is at fault. if the manager prohibits employees being armed and a mass shooter comes in and kills 100 employees (unlikely), then the company and manager are not at fault. so their choice is

1) permit, the bad event is possible or even likely, and the manager’s entire career is destroyed, or
2) do not permit, a bad event is highly unlikely, and no personal damage will occur to the manager in any case

the correct choice for the manager is obvious.

There’s another option – place responsibility where it actually belongs.

Why should the manager or the company have any responsibility if an employee goes nuts? I fully realize that that’s what happens today, but that’s a learned response.

In truth, no one is responsible except for the party that did the deed. It’s the damned lawyers that have managed to convince the entire population that whom ever has some money to go after, they’re responsible.

The bullshit of that narrative is this….regardless of approval or not to carry…..
An asshole thats gonna shoot up his work place is gonna shoot up his workplace no matter what….
A good employee that is allowed to carry will be there when said asshole shows up and makes it a fair fight. Subduing the good employee favors the asshole and puts many more lives at risk as all gun free zones do. Change the narrative people.

“Subduing the good employee favors the asshole and puts many more lives at risk”

correct – except for the manager making the decision. for him, the risk/benefit situation is exactly reversed, so he decides for himself and against us. anyone who doesn’t eventually is forced out and replaced by someone who does. any corporation which resists this eventually is sued out of existence and replaced by one that accepts it.

and yes, this situation is deliberately pushed by the (((lawyers))) with exactly precisely this society-destroying corruption in mind.

Donk, my less than well made comment was only to determine if you believe that simply being wealthy is bad. From some of your comments, that is the impression I get.

My next question would be, assuming that you believe that the wealthy are bad people, how much wealth does one have to accumulate to become a bad person? And as a corollary, is abject poverty
a virtue?

Anon,

You aren’t following my thoughts correctly. Wealth like power, corrupts though. Say it ain’t so, go ahead. But I would remind you that greed is one of the 7 deadly sins.

http://www.deadlysins.com/greed

Remember, $$ is a claim on resources. Your labor is a resource.

The wealth I’m talking about is the kind that can grease the wheels of injustice. The kind that can monopolize. The kind that can control destiny and the kind that can shut down avenues of opportunity. These things are happening.

I am not allowed to carry @ work or have firearm/ammo in my vehicle on company property.

Last summer 2 Dindus had a shootout over a mudshark* outside my office window. Dindu1 died on scene due to headshot after crashing his vehicle a block away. Dindu2 fled and committed suicide at mudshark’s home.

I sent emails to management strongly disagreeing with their policy as it is not a safe area. I also told my wife to use those emails for lawsuit should something happen.

*Mudshark was also married to a cuck and had a child. I hope they were unaware because they looked like a nice family in pictures.

Demand a “safe space” or a “safe working environment”. The fuckin leftist love to scream about micro aggressions and force diversity training and waste millions creating a fuckin “safe working environment” where men can dress like girly faggots and feel safe doing it.

But when real safety matters companies are mum. Fuck that, demand safe spaces, steel doors, millions in security and armed personnel and when it happens and they refused, use your letter and email as proof you asked and warned them then claim discrimination, mental harm and the exact same bullshit lawsuits these faggots in dresses do with their cucked lawyers. They will pay you millions to go away like all the faggots are getting free money. Use their tactics against them. Fuck em.

I must be losing it.
I was watching an old Christmas movie last night. Something about a guy dies and some angel shows him what the world is like without him…
There is a scene at the end where the guy is holding his daughter in front of a Christmas tree as all these neighbors are pouring into his house. So, he didn’t die after all. But the tree had a little bell on it and it started to ring all by its self. The daughter says some poem as the bell finishes ringing. What I thought she said was, “Look daddy, Clarence says that ‘Every time you pull the trigger another muzzie is killed by a nigger’.

I was sleepy, maybe I misunderstood.

FedEx is definitely against weapons on their property. A few years ago, they fought against a proposed state law that would allow employees to keep their weapons locked in their cars on property of companies that do not allow carrying. The law passed and they were pissed off big league.

If a company/government does not allow me to protect myself, they should be physically and financially responsible for my safety.
