Some were ducking behind the one inch pew wood. Like that would help

From what I’ve seen, most church pews are oak hardwood. So, yes, it’s better than just sitting there being a target.

Looks like the man who took out the terrorist wasn’t the only one in the church packing heat. Good for them. This could have turned out worse than it did already. What a shame two innocent lives are lost.

In a moral society the good guy with a gun would be publically esteemed for saving innocent life and setting a great example for others to emulate. But not in this diseased nation.

oh the nation – the remaining legitimate citizens – do indeed esteem such actions. it’s the foreign tribal news/entertainment/social media monopoly/collusion that’s diseased, not the nation.

It seems good odds to me that the ‘security team’ was moonlighting cops. They get all the perks of manliness. Sure looks like an old smokey with a utility belt.

And I lost that wager: “In September, a new law came into effect in Texas that allowed licensed handgun owners to carry weapons in places of worship.”

Anyone with a lick of sense carries. It wasn’t moonlighting cops. One of the people with a gun was a little old lady….you must be a Yankee.

Bullshit, we carry and can carry openly. I don’t want anyone to know much about me so no open carry. After the horrible church massacre in Sutherland Springs where 27 people were murdered the gov. made it almost mandatory to have armed people in church.

Our church recently went through a security check-up and instituted several changes, including limiting access to the church during services. We also hire off duty officers to patrol the entrance points. In addition, we have numerous members who carry and are part of the security team, as well as several dozen who have CCW permits and carry all of the time.

Just another example of good fortune happening as danger meets preparation.

In May of 2018 I speculated upon that exact same scenario:

“Meditations and Musings, in a Church, on Mother’s Day”

I found myself wondering if the church walls, which were then surrounding my family, would withstand a societal breakdown; and I speculated if refuge could be found there in future days.

I recalled reading once how worship gatherings might soon become Sunday morning targets…

Exactly one thing makes a man sexy: social dominance. I think Paula can imagine nice shooters spread eagle under a swarm of police ‘policing’ the sichitation. Is anyone here RP. Is this audience at all RP or Manosphere?

actually he had lots of time. the assailant telegraphed everything he did and the guys on the back saw it coming, you can see the first guy in the back stand up attempting to draw his weapon, he futzed around with it for a few seconds before being shot, then the assailant shot the second guy. during all that time the third guy was drawing his weapon (took him a few seconds too), then he finally settled in and carefully fired off a very controlled shot that dropped the assailant.

looks like people need to work on their draw.

I know these were older folks, but the guy standing right next to the shooter could have grabbed the gun easily.

As a member of the security team at my church here in Georgia, that video sent chills up my spine. Our group will be analyzing and looking at ramping up our own training efforts. I believe the man that was slow to draw and shot dead, as well as the other guy that did make that well placed shot at ~15 yards, were both part of a church security team and not just congregants.

Actually according to what I’ve read, the members of the security team were also active members of the congregation. I agreed with the earlier posters on here though. The weapons were open carried and the draw was slow. I can see a delayed draw from a concealed carry weapon but for open carry the draw, at most, should have been 1 to 2 seconds.

The video of this shooting, however, is awful. I am wondering just how old that surveillance system is. I have surveillance on my home that is at least 5 years old and has much better clarity than the video shown of the church shooting.

Video from my system was recently used for a collision that occurred in front of my home by the police and insurance companies involved. The collision occurred across the street (more than 100 feet) and you can clearly make out the make, year and model of the vehicle that struck my daughter’s and neighbor’s vehicles.

At my church, a good half the people pack. Some have been friends since high school, including our judge. No fanfare, no BS, just a way of life. Someone is always watching, even during prayer. And we live in a fairly secure isolated area. An unknown person – we have a pretty small population – would be sized up immediately and quietly watched. Knowing these people, I would expect a shooter to maybe get a shot or two off. Probably not even that. Sad, sad, sad to think that we have to be this way, but it’s a dangerous world. Always has been and now the chickens are coming home to roost.
