The Coronavirus has been declared by the World Health Organization (WH) to be an emergency. As I reported yesterday, the death rate may not be as high as SARS which was 10%, but its spread rate is far greater. The number of cases jumped in a day from 7700 to 9682. The WHO defines a global emergency — formally, a Public Health Emergency of International Concern — as “an extraordinary event which is determined to constitute a public health risk to other States through the international spread of disease and to potentially require a coordinated international response.” This is the sixth declared in the past decade.
There have been only five such emergencies declared in the past decade:
- the H1 virus that caused an influenza pandemic (2009),
- West Africa’s Ebola outbreak (2013-2016),
- polio (2014),
- Zika virus (2016),
- and the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (2019)
Four of those six global emergencies took place during the last ECM and this one began on the turn at the bottom. Since our disease model on influenza is a 13-year cycle, that is also pointing to 2022 as a crisis year. If this coronavirus has the same life-expectancy for its global spread before reaching a peak, that also points to 2022. The good news, the death rate seems to be legitimate and it still runs less than 3%.
This has the potential to reduce economic growth further on an overall global scale.

I thought that too, briefly, but my foray into the sexuality and the politics of abortion led me to Planned Parenthood, Global Family Planning and smack dab into the founding of the World Health Organization in May 1948. Timing is everything.

Bear in mind that we do not yet have a clear picture of how infectious or how lethal this virus is, because the official Chinese government numbers on the number of cases and on the number of deaths are pure fiction.
Study out today says R-naught value is 4.1. So, one person infect 4; 4 turns to 16; 16 to 64; 64 to 256; 256 to 1024; 1024 to 4096 to 16384 to 65536 to 262,144 to 1,048,576, etc.
Estimated fatality rate: 6.5 percent
7.7 billion X .065 = about 500 million.

The only hard numbers we have are from the initial group of patients, where 15% of them died. Until I see better numbers, I’m presuming a 15% mortality rate.

So far, I’ve been tempering my concern about this outbreak with the fact it seems more deadly to Chinese than Westerners. I’m theorizing the Chinese’ lack of sanitation and hygiene, bad food, and poisonous air, water, and soil combines to lower their health to a level where the flu runs among them like a lamb among sheep. With no deaths in the West to date, could all this be hype?

Curse of the Internet is everyone gets a voice. For too long science has warned of a mutation that we could not combat. I know, just trying to scare us. But what if they were for real ? Everyone gets a vote.
So I started warning my friends and family a few days ago to get masks. And I have been searching hard to fine my own this entire time. I have been watching them vaporize on amazon and elsewhere. Price gougers are on ebay selling them at massive markups. I saw one dude selling an N100 mask for $160. Someone else might even be crazy enough to buy it. So I tried to buy from AirGas and they refuse to sell masks online to anyone who doesn’t already have an account and purchased them previously. I tried to buy from Grainger. They were backordered and now they have a policy to not sell medical respirators to people. All the medical supply places online I’ve checked were out. I had one take an order and tell me 12 hours later they had no masks and don’t know when they’ll get a shipment between now and March. I went to Home Depot today and I saw 3 dudes walk up to the paint aisle where the masks and tyvek suits are. They were disappointed the cases of masks were all sold out. All the Despot had were onesies and twosies. And the prices weren’t that good, either.
If you look online, you may still get lucky. Otherwise, you might consider a half-mask with filters and eye pro.
