14 ‘Diamond Princess’ Passengers Test Positive During Flight Back To US; Tokyo Marathon Cancelled

Via ZeroHedge

It’s like the ‘Alien’ franchise: The evacuation ship always carries the monster.

Unfortunately, in this instance, the monster is an invisible, inaudible yet highly infectious virus. And instead of the Nostromo, we have two chartered Boeing 747s.

According to the New York Post, 14 Americans among the more than 300 US citizen passengers being evacuated from the cruise ship ‘Diamond Princess’ after nearly two weeks of quarantine have tested positive for the virus. Officials said they didn’t learn of the positive tests until the flight was about to take off.

Ahead of the flight, the State Department said that 40 Americans who had tested positive wouldn’t be eligible for the evacuation flight, and would instead be entrusted to Japanese authorities. Of course, all of the Americans who traveled on the evacuation flights had to agree to a two week quarantine after returning to the US.

https://www.zerohedge.com/s3/files/inline-images/2020.02.17ship.PNG?itok=8h4dieqb

The sick individuals were reportedly “isolated” during the flight (but in a closed environment like an airplane during flight, how secure could they possibly be?).

“These individuals were moved in the most expeditious and safe manner to a specialized containment area on the evacuation aircraft to isolate them in accordance with standard protocols,” the statement said. “During the flights, these individuals will continue to be isolated from the other passengers.”

One of the evacuation flights is headed to Travis Air Force Base in California, and another for Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. At this time, it’s unclear which plane the infected are traveling on, where they are going, or where they’ll be treated.

In other news, Japanese health authorities have decided to cancel a major public sporting event despite there only being 65 confirmed cases of the virus in Japan (outside the Diamond Princess): The Tokyo Marathon, which was set to begin later this month, has been cancelled

The annual event attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators to watch more than 20,000 runners compete in one of the six ‘World Marathon Majors’.

Many international events and trade shows have been cancelled because of the outbreak, including events like the Mobile world Conference in Barcelona, an area with zero confirmed COVID-19 infections, and the Beijing Autoshow, which was cancelled Monday morning, according to Reuters.

But the Tokyo Marathon is an important attraction for Tokyo’s tourism industry. Furthermore, it doesn’t bode well for another high-profile sporting event: The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

At this point, we suspect the biggest tail risk for global markets involving Japan would be a decision to cancel or postpone the Olympics (it’s not like they can simply pick another venue). That would ignite a wave of hysteria and uproar that even these Fed-assisted markets likely wouldn’t be able to withstand.

Cancelling the Olympics would be a big deal?
That would create ‘hysteria and uproar’?

Give me a break! Most don’t care about the Olympics. It’s one of those events touted by the media, the political class and the well to do that can afford to show themselves off with special seating and parties, but for the average person, it’s just noise. The Olympics are a guaranteed money loser for the host country.

Most don’t care who wins or loses. It’s just another venue for some pampered faux athletes to become millionaires by getting endorsements that raise the prices of the products and services average people depend on. It’s just another way for the rich to get richer on the backs of working people.

Faux athletes? Please name 2 athletes that won Gold, Silver, Bronze that are not (or were) world-class….If you had ever had a chance to interact with any world-class athletes they are magical beings that can do things the rest of us only dream about.

The thing that was always interesting to me was to take them out of their sport and they would still kick your ass without breaking a sweat.

Put a diver on a bicycle and they will ride you into the ground etc. They are just that much better.

The rest of the commercialization is right…..people do care about the Olympics though in the last couple of cycles the coverage has been so bad as to be unwatchable.

Stick to your political drivel, you are just digging a hole for yourself. Rugby not a sport…..Nordic combined, triathlon and wrestling not sports?

You are just beclowning yourself. You made a good point about the commercialization but obviously you have never seen what these folks can do…..

I could care less what the people can do. They are playing children’s games for the most part as adults and reaping million from endorsements that we pay for.

You picked some of the actual sports, but the vast majority are just bullshit.

Apple,

Living in the woods here is what I do in the spring to earn a gold medal.

Get yourself one of these…have a beverage or two…and go onto the back deck or front porch and take care of the skeeters, wasps, and carpenter bees.

Super aerobic!

I lost interest in the Olympics when they made it a professional sporting event. I do not follow professional sports, at all and have curtailed my love of College sports as they are almost as bad.

U.S. coverage of olympics has been unwatchable for me since the 1990s due to the ever increasing commercialization and non-event B.S. coverage adding in.

The Olympic thing has really gotten old. Sorta like a State Fair that is the same year after year. I’m sure the people on the Olympic Committee are making big bucks staging these events.

Look at Brazil – a county in real economic trouble – pissing away money on the 2016 Olympics.

Eventually people will wake up and take notice…..

1) when does a country cancel So many large events and conferences when they have no flu or only 65 cases..?
2) if the Tokyo olympics are cancelled and this is like any other normal flu as we are being told when was the last olympics cancelled because a normal, flu?
3) if so many people are quarantined tens of millions, in cities that are important to manufacturing items for the world, the factories lie sitting, when are we going to see shortages of those manufactured items not being manufactured? Will there be inflation of said items? Will there be massive spending and demand of those that were quarantined? (Surely they need things themselves, want to go out to eat, maybe they will also go bankrupt because their bills keep coming in but they did not work or get paid for 2-4 weeks….
4) will Chinese govt consider this bio warfare? Will they want the rest of the world economy to suffer so they do not fall behind? Did the usa plant this virus?
5) will the usa exploit the virus to ponpoint it as the cause of the great financial crash (fourth turning) so trump can keep his ego and the treasonous bastards keep their ill-gotten gains from other countries like biden, pelosi, kerry’s kids?

This seems to be a great patsy for the economic crash. Blame it all on us for fear mongering and refusing to go out to eat and spend money and crashing the economy. Surely they will make everyone here who goes out in public wearing a mask the evil scaredy-cat and ostracize them. By doing so you leave only the choice of not going out at all and spending zero money.

I bet the govt screws that narrative up also. Surely they will laugh at the mask wearer and cause a national econ melt down instead of a slow downturn of spending.

Numerous papers and studies were done about spending. If 30 million refused to buy gas for one week it would reduce oil prices 15% as an example. If 80% of Americans are too scared to go out or refuse to be made fun of in a mask in public imagine the economy them….overnite. Nothing to see here folks keep on spending and lol bout this virus. No worries. Nothing bad will happen even if it was the normal flu. It could be the hype that causes markets to crash….no worries though.

This corona virus could be the wooden stake in the heart of globalism.

Wait till you can’t get a water pump for a Toyota, and alternator for a GM car …. it’s going to happen.

It is definitely a stake in the heart of the just-in-time model of distribution. Grab what you need and what you think you’ll need that isn’t made here, now and…even if it’s made here or not in China, be aware of how much raw material and parts that are necessary to make an item, are.

Here is another little safety and survival tidbit….

Anon gets so much right. However, I just have a hard time believing China would shut down so much of its country, place its economy at serious risk and create a nasty threat to the survival of its Emperor for Life and his cronies unless the virus were a serious threat. My own bet is on the escape, deliberate or not, of a weaponized virus from that Wuhan bio-weapons lab. Anyway, I don’t listen to what they say (lie) about this in China, but I do pay attention to what they do. The evidence thus far just screams that something is drastically amiss out there. So, stay away from crowds. Wear wraparound sunglasses, wash your hands, and watch your backs. Good luck to us all.

Then there’s this scenario:

Quarantine; lockdown; curfew; martial law. Those outside the urban/suburban zone are required to submit to vaccination or be declared enemies of public order and subject to seizure and internment. Those who have prepared haven’t prepared for this, not unless they have a tunnel system that they can use to escape to the Yukon. This scenario, you see, the maybe-maybe-not pandemic can keep you and yours under tight control. It’s for the national health, welfare, security and of course the children.

An additional 99 cases on the Diamond Princess (the cruise ship quarantined in Yokohama), and 6 or 7 additional cases in Japan (outside the cruise ship),

The Japanese health ministry has been unable to trace the source of some of these cases, which means it’s already spreading in the general populace.
