Fighting this war against a virus, we can anticipate the same success we’ve had in Afghanistan. We’ll broker a defeat in 17 years after spending $5 trillion.

I still cannot understand why a test is needed.

What difference does it make if they have Virus A/B or Corona? You treat the symptoms. There is no cure for it, right?

When someone comes into a hospital and presents with symptoms the physicians treat them regardless of they strain, right?

I am just not fully grasping the importance of the test.

I don’t understand how there can already be tests for a specific, supposedly new variant of a virus? Is it a generic test they are using??

The results would have been useful to motivate people to prepare and so not be blind-sided. Too late at this point. The tests aren’t of much use now as the virus has spread too widely to be contained. You’re right about the medical response – it doesn’t matter that much. When I get it, I will stay home and deal with it.

I agree HSF – I too am confused as to why we need a test at all. At least 50% of people have no symptoms at all, another 25% have mild ‘cold-like’ symptoms only and the rest recover apart from the old, sick and infirm who be on their way in any event.

In 2017, there were 56 million deaths globally; nearly half of these (49%) were people who were 70 years or older; 27% were between 50 and 69 years old; 14% were between 15 and 49; only 1% were older than 5 and younger than 14; and almost 10% were children under the age of 5.

This is a mass hysteria panic caused by our instantly connected high tech world and enabled by ‘scientists’ who are so specialised that they pronounce upon issues for which they are not qualified. Politicians are merely the puppets they have always been and all the corporations want is to make profits either way and secure an economic advantage.

It’s proving to be a sad world and I for one am not going to be part of it – I shall keep calm and carry on – just like we did in the War. I wonder what the snowflakes’ reaction on social media would be if they started bombing us again?

Thanks Austrian Pete for your encouraging comment to people like myself . I survive and work pay taxes while immune suppressed due to a genetic disorder requiring a kidney transplant !
While as you put it during my health care battle on my way out over the last 10 years I paid for a full college degree for my daughter helped support several children of family members who’s father abandoned them and continue to do so . I do not deserve first rate care if I get hit by this current corona virus just because , I earned it , for 3 years while on dialysis I missed very few hours on the job that was physically demanding . However it does seem like a standard in America today regardless of how productive you are the non productive are first in line for health care . Those that do not work always appear at a government town hall meeting and always are catered to while producers are taxed and tossed away like a Dixie cup !

Many thanks Anon for sharing so much and I feel for you because a friend of mine is on dialysis and I know how awful it is. I trust and pray that you get that transplant.

I am 75 years old and target for the virus too, but hey, we all have to go one day or another – IMO it’s in the hands of our Creator – so I just carry on as I always have.

You need to manage the spread, and try to keep it from spreading so fast that it overwhelms your medical system (it’s probably too late for US, that ship sailed in early Feb.) – which results in a sharply increased fatality rate. This means identifying infected people as early on as possible, which requires a test, so they can be isolated before they infect many other people. This is what South Korea and Singapore are trying to do, for example.

You also want to know who is infected so you can attempt to trace their contacts and test those people (see above for why).

The US is doing none of these things, probably because the ‘American’ ruling class hates the American people. But now that CPAC and AIPAC have been exposed to the disease, I imagine it will become something they care about, where before they were perfectly happy to sacrifice millions of actual Americans to prevent the (self-)important people from being inconvenienced in some small way.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. And the cost of the test is something like $3,000+. What difference does it make if there’s no specific vaccine or “cure”?

Testing is done to determine what the causative agent of a disease is and once that is established a treatment protocol or regimen can be created to treat the disease. Some symptons like shortness of breath and chest pains can be heart related or pneumonia. You don’t want to use the wrong drugs for a condition. In the case of this virus HIV drugs are useful whereas in regular bacterial pneumonia they would be detrimental.

Levels of contagion are determined by testing. Elimination of other possible diseases also requires testing.

A lawyers dream. If it weren’t for the mass suffering I would be cheering this collapse on just to get rid of the regulatory army.
As a landlord you might appreciate this little story from Swansea Illinois.
Just before my wife passed away she was at her daughters house as an out patient. Her daughter and husband asked me to change the old water heater to save them a union plumbers bill. Turned out a plumber was the least of their worries. I had to go to town hall for a permit that required My showing them the receipt for the new heater to make sure it was approved and then had to allow the building inspecter to inspect the site before and after installation at a time of his choosing. 8 days later they had hot water again. And we’re worried about the commies taking over!

There’s a lot of misinformation about testing. According to the CBC website, the ONLY definitive test for Covid-19 is Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). This is a form of genetic testing, where a section of DNA is isolated, amplified, and compared to the known virus genetics. They are attempting to create a “shake-and-bake” test consisting of 5 vials, including the proper reagents, a genetic library, the correct mix of nucleotides, etc. It even needs to be run on a specific RT-PCR machine that is widely available, but the key is you need that specific device for the kit to work properly.

This is not an easy thing to do. Regardless of the details of PCR, it is GENETIC TESTING. It is not super cheap, not super fast, and cannot be done in a “drive through” (as some people have claimed) like a strep-test. They are also working on a serology (blood) based test. The idea there, is to identify an antibody “fingerprint” that will indicate to a high degree of certainty (>90%) that Covid-19 is present. This would be a good “field screening” test if/when they can work it out. Those people proving positive from a serology test could then be separated for the more accurate confirmatory PCR testing.

The PURPOSE is to identify people who actually have Covid-19 and segregate them. We are in the middle of cold and flu season, so there are many common viruses that have similar symptoms as Covid-19, at least early on. So everyone with the sniffles and a cough CAN’T practically be tested, and probably shouldn’t be. The carrying on about lack of testing is ridiculous, because this it is not easy (at this point) to test accurately for Covid-19, not cheap either. Also, because you would be handling live virus, the labs have to be CDC certified to handle infectious agents. That means you aren’t going to get this done at your doctor’s office, a ready care, or even an ER. They don’t have the equipment, and aren’t qualified. While the CDC works on a better field screening method, this is what we have.

Slow down, take a deep breath and keep your cool. I’m less worried about Covid-19 than the irrational panic over Covid-19, which is far more likely to cause actually serious problems.

Not surprisingly, they will attempt to blame Trump for all of this, when what goes on in the chronic screwup bureaucracy is something that is endemic to bureaucracies and government in general (regardless of who sits on the throne). Add to that the probability that the CDC controlled the process so they could control the narrative, TPTB are pulling out all the stops to reduce the population, keep Trump from getting elected, and consolidate power for their next king, and nothing is going to work in OUR best interest.

I still question the accuracy of the tens of thousands of test kits that have been created and used in other countries. Not saying that these folks don’t have the ability to produce quality product, but having worked for 25 years in the In-vitro Diagnostic industry, I know that highly accurate, highly reproducible test kits are difficult to develop, let along produce in MASS QUANTITIES OVERNIGHT.
