I’ve always agreed the lack of empathy indicates a sociopathic personality. If the problem isn’t recognized or resolved in childhood it can cause problems later on. Responsibility lies with parents and how they discipline and instill values to the kids early on. I’m a BIG believer in kids getting responsibly involved with pets at an early age because pets can influence emotional development. Observing how kids react emotionally and treat an injured, aging, or dying pet can be a big tell.
The Golden Rule was a big thing when I was a kid. As I got older, I understood why.
Many of these malignant narcissists have a history of torturing animals at an early age.
I do not think that a lack of empathy is evil. I have zero empathy for all the fools who have been led down the garden path by their “betters”. If that is evil then count me in.
