SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
SMC, nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli – Time to Say Goodbye (1997)

In November 1996, Andrea and Sarah Brightman were invited to perform the duet ‘Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partirò)’ at the farewell contest of the German World Light-Heavyweight boxing champion, Henry Maske.

A national hero held in unrivaled esteem, he is known for his love of selecting entrance themes to his bouts.

Sarah Brightman, the internationally renowned soprano and friend of Henry Maske heard ‘Con Te Partirò’ in a restaurant while dining with her friends. Entranced by the singer and the song, Brightman made contact with Andrea.

Andrea and Brightman re-recorded ‘Con Te Partirò’ as the duet ‘Time To Say Goodbye’ with members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

This live version is from Brightman’s first full concert recording, “Sarah Brightman: In Concert”, from London’s Royal Albert Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Paul Bateman.

Guest artists include Andrew Lloyd Webber, Adam Clark and Andrea Bocelli. The concert was released to video in 1998.

The concert was directed by David Mallet.

Chopin Waltz Opus 70 # 2

Here’s another one I heard while driving, many many months ago. Can’t remember when.

But, I heard it, and liked it enough to jot it down, and tonight I did a search.

I like this version, because it’s a young Japanese lad that’s tickling the ivories.

I can’t read Japanese, and I’m not doing Google translate.

So, lets just watch the Lil’ Dude and Let The Music Do the Talking.

Fiddler On The Roof orchestral Medley.

This version is performed by Conductor Zygmunt Nitkiewcz.

At any rate, this is the symphony orchestra of the Jozef Marcin Zebrowski Music School in Czestochowa, Poland on 10-1-2017.

Enjoy.

HEAVEN has indeed helped us Sir, with the gift of your diligent works for the selections!!
Sarah Brightman is new to me and an angel to be enjoyed more and more.
This particular stunning, moving work of Rimsky Korsakov is a goodie to get the blood flowing on a Sunday morning!!
What is interesting to notice is the international flavor of all the works, from older cultures with the young country of USA likely to never catch up with the volume of the classical productions.
BTW did you notice the child conductor to be in the Berlin audience?
THANKS much again!!

Thanks for the positive feeback, UD and TN.
Steve C puts in a lot of effort, getting by with a little help from his friends.

It’s tough to consistently deliver, yet Nkit, Peter, and Steve do so, quite admirably.
The appreciative audience seems small, but I’d bet there are lurkers who enjoy,
but just choose to remain on the sidelines of the commentary playing field.

edit / add:
Vixen, Yes. Thanks for contributing that.
A lil’ back story about that tune.
I first heard that, when I worked for a married couple, and the wife was part Italian.
The husband was marrying off his daughter, and the wedding was a gala affair, with no
expense spared.
He hired live musicians and singers for the wedding ceremony, and Time To Say Goodbye
was sang for the audience in English, either during the ceremony, or at the Dad / Daughter dance.

Later on, some Italian friends share Bocelli’s music and I ended up putting a few tracks on an
iPod, which is now so ‘old school’, in this new day and age of streaming media content.

Sigh…

But, from that Bocelli album “Romanza”, here’s another track where his vocal talent is obvious, to
anyone who can appreciate it.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all.

Just getting around to listening to these. Another Sunday round of great picks. I’m so glad to see my suggestion was listed. It’s such a great song. And Andrea Bocelli is one of my all-time favorites. Keep it up, guys. I’m loving it.

That little boy doing Chopin on the piano was amazing.

In “Fiddler on the Roof,” there’s a solo starting at 2:07. Is that a clarinet? I’ve never seen a clarinet that had a bulbed-out shape beneath the reed/mouthpiece.
