Nobody goes there anymore dept: We took a drive up there on Saturday. The traffic was light, usually it is crowded like I-10. We kept getting passed by wolf packs, one guy darting in out of lanes jumping ahead of ten cars one by one like he was reliving the old days. Then the wolf pack was gone for twenty minutes until another pack caught up with us.

I got off on St Rose parkway and stopped at the M for a light dinner. Nobody was at the door checking temperature, a sign said, please remove mask for identification. Attendance was light. Driving up the strip, the airport was silent, the runway lights were on but no flights at all. There was a line at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, supervised by a police SUV and a military armored personnel carrier.

Only a few casinos were open so we didn’t see anybody walking until we got to Tropicana and even then, the pedestrian traffic was light, mostly black and brown families with kids in tow looking around. The revelers at the outdoor bars of the old Aladdin – now Planet Hollywood – and the Flamingo were nowhere to be seen.

The traffic on the strip was half or more with Nevada plates, likely locals out to relive the good old days. In less than 20 minutes, I made it up to the Stratosphere, renamed the Strat, where I had to make a U-turn. The only delay was due to the construction barriers forcing traffic onto one lane, pedestrians hardly crossed the strip. Even the protesters on the other side of the Fashion Mall were lackluster, yet they were the biggest crowds we saw there.

By this time, my wife was spooked to see the disaster on the strip. We spotted the Tacos El Gordo but my wife noticed the temporarily closed sign. She said she was ready to go back home.

I went to Vegas once. For a wedding. Classy. Don’t plan on going back. What a dump. I liked Hoover Dam, though.
