A few years back the wife and I toured the Washington home on Mt. Vernon. The house itself sits on a rise with nice overlooking view of the Potomac River. The national historic sites have private sponsors and haven’t really suffered the destruction like the statues or markers out in the open.
If the ‘Tards are ignorant and bold enough to go after national historical sites like Mt. Vernon, Monticello, or The Hermitage they definitely need their asses kicked. The ironic thing is many of these statues being pulled down are made of bronze and aren’t being sold for scrap metals.
e.d., A few years back, when I was living and working in DC, my wife and I became members of Mt. Vernon because we went there so often with visitors. I remember thinking at the time that it would only be a few years until the last mythical existence of the old USA was obliterated, and Mt. Vernon along with it. I was not mistaken. I give it 10 years, tops, before Mt. Vernon and Monticello are abandoned at best, and more likely razed. And those places will not be defended or protected, not even by the historians and preservationists who supposedly treasure them.

This weekend I plan to take a little ride downtown to show my deep blue liberal wife the fine street art that is now painted on all the buildings. We’ll get to see plywood on all the windows showing that the retail sector is raring to go as the pandemic lockdown draws to a close. I’m sure the homeless population has expanded a bit with our double-digit unemployment so I expect lots of colorful tents along the downtown sidewalks. I figure if we go early in the morning we should avoid the antifa black mask crowd.
After our little tour of the remnants of downtown Portland we will return to the suburbs and normalcy.
Maybe show up next time a memorial statue as great as this is torn down. Bring friends. Sorry, but I just can’t believe good people let this happen.
